Look at a 7800X matched against a 5800X3d and the gaming will be on par may even be a little faster with the 3D still. It looks like the best budge gaming will still be on AM4 which blows my mind...

Way too much freak out over the temp. I can say, if anything, ya'll can blame me because i got on them for how zen 3 didnt really push to the limits out of the box, as they liked to claim they designed zen 3 to push maximum performance out of the box. but it didnt. You needed to manual pbo and remove (most) limits manually, and it still never got all that hot (on my system) since it ended up voltage constrained.
So I, emphasis on I, am thankful they are actually make it so much less fiddling is required for out of box performance to go as far as it safely can. I would have just gone and removed the limits i could in bios again.
I would like to believe theyve done enough testing to conclude 95c is good with the cores and silicon to last much longer than 12 months or so. Intel xpus have had a tjmax of 100c for a long time, and people ran them up to that. Spec is dpec.

I love gaming at Native Res but if I got a better experience from FSR 2.0 or what ever I would try it if I needed it. Also I think Ray tracing will go the way Microsoft goes with it at the end of the day.. There will be new consoles that upscale and do Ray tracing and it will all be done with AMD hardware.. And I still think RTX won't really matter for another 6/7 years.. What are their 2 Real RTX games built from the ground up?? Not including the games that had patches put in after they came out..

Have fun sticking these chips into SFX with no air flow. I knew these would run like Intel chips and be hot. To me it's not a big deal, Intel chips were pushing 100 C. too. That ECO 105 and 65 watt settings is very smart.. That's great for people who worry about the power and the heat. You can set it up at 105 for gaming and not lose anything really and 65 for just watching vids and then turn it back up for performance apps. And that ECO will save the SFX factor.

Me thinks Gordon is detached from reality. Rationalizing a 4070 masquerading as a 4080 to charge an extra 400, and raising the price of the 4080 (16 GB) by also 400, when the economy is moving to a recession .. LOL. At this pace PC gaming will be a small niche catering to the upper income folks only, like the HIFI audio crowd. The rest will be better served getting a console a pc is arguably a necessity (notebooks exist), pc gaming is not.

I knew the story of Zen4 would be wait for the V cache version to come out next year if you are a gamer... Everyone is already saying if you don't need productivity get the 5800X3D and call it a day.. For all of us 4K gamer's, we are more concerned with GPU's right now more than anything else..

Nvidia is not greedy. They can charge 1 billion per card if they want. Buyers don't have to buy. The equilibrium price for any given product has two inputs, supply AND demand.
Just stop buying Nvidia cards for a generation and see how quickly Nvidia capitulates.

44:00 Intel also has Eco mode when adjusting PL1 and PL2. They also have a non-bios konfiguration utility called Xtreme Tuning Utility (XTU). So no advantage to AMD, especially since Intel supports incremental Watt adjustments.

I would love to see the 7950x with the power limit set to 120-150w, so basically closer to the 5950x. I do a lot of CPU rendering (as a hobby), so the double the power consumption of a my 5950x would cost real money.

Idk. I think I will be all raster. I d rather take a bit of a performance hit to not have DLSS vomiting weird deep thought guesses into my line of sight. I speak for nobody else when I say this. Do what you will.

It's interesting to see AMD disregarding efficiency for a more balls to the walls approach this generation. That's why I don't really see it as much of an improvement as past ryzen generations were.
reply

Correction to something you said, the 7950X is NOT always using 95 C. It's using that much when a load pushes it to the point that it will run that hot. It's not going to idle at 95 C.
reply

The tldw about whether people should buy it is Not if you game at 1440p or higher max settings, 1080p for some special case games, with ray tracing on and dlss/fsr off, or .
reply

how does the 95 degree affect idling when not doing anything or barely little will it still reach 95 to get to higher clock even if it doesn't need to?
