I am British, English thanks for the nod to some of our brilliant TV shows. I'm guessing you're list is made up of shows on Netflix over there. but I'd like to mention some that may well have to be searched for. The original British TV series Mad Dogs. Misfits about a group of young adults who gain strange super powers whilst doing community service for their misdemeanor crimes definitely not for the children. Inspector George Gently a modern police drama set in the 1960s. The original Life on Mars NOT American version set in the early 70s it's much grittier and it's follow up Ashes to Ashes set in the early to mid 80s. DCI Banks with Stephen Thompkins as the title police Detective Chief Inspector gritty northern England police drama. Heartbeat set in rural north Yorkshire ( where I live) a police drama made in the 1990s set in the 1960s it was so popular it lasted 10 years longer than the decade about which it was filmed and had to have numerous lead characters one of its main stars was the absolutely beautiful countryside in which it was filmed. there is also the one series ( will there be another ?) the Frankenstein Chronicles starring Sean Bean a very early Police drama set in the time of Mary Shelley's character. there is an old Series called Rumpole of the Bailey about a criminal law Barrister well worth viewing if it's available anywhere and last but not least, the 1990s, 18th century period drama set in the Peninsula war ( against Napoleon Bonaparte) Sharpe starring a young Sean Bean. I hope if you can find these series you enjoy them as much as I I could name numerous others but you'd be fed up reading by the end of the list.

Peaky Blinders is magnificent to look at, has some insanely great dialogue and some of the best standalone scenes in recent memory, and these actors are absolutely selling the family bond.... but it's far from the best show on this list. It's got some serious continuity issues from one season to the next, it's missing a pre-determined trajectory for many, many aspects, and some of the characters motives and changes are just puzzling. Hot and cold. So it's notably flawed, but ALWAYS worth a watch. Luther and Happy Valley are much better overall. Ripper Street is so much better than any procedural has any business being, I was impressed, and it didn't fall for a lot of cliches that searching for the killer premises often do. But The Fall is a huge waste of time. They are always killing their suspense, it moves glacially slow, and I really don't care enough AT ALL about the killer to be seeing so much of him. I don't have 5 hours to waste watching Stella only find out stuff that was given to me, as the viewer, in the first 15 minutes.

Greetings from Finland! I have enjoyed many of your videos, TechGumbo. Thank you for them. Now I have to educate you for exchange. ;) First of all, I think that most of the American comedy series are just rubbish, like rated 1/5. (Some positive exceptions are series like South Park, American Dad and some others.) If you have to add fake laugh to background, you are not usually doing things correctly. Brits have made many excellent comedy series. To name some of them: Spaced, Mighty Boosh, Monty Python and Office. The US version of Office is just watered down version of the original and much much weaker. It should have not ever be made. The original Office is 5/5 and the US version feels like blasphemy after that. And to comfort North American viewers I can say that you still fortunately can make some really good drama series (like The Wire).

I live about 10mins from where the main outdoors parts are filmed in Peaky Blinders, as there's a Black Country museum in Dudley. It is set up so there are streets you can bye fish & chip shops or watch a blacksmiths. There is a coal mine lift that takes you down to where the men used to work. Sadly never bumped into the cast but they used my local Starbucks as someone there served Tom Hardy- very jealous. There is lots to do at the museum & a Peaky Blinders hat or flat cap as my Grandad would have called it is available in the gift shop (or on the web sight).

The light comedy, Death in Paradise, is one of my favourite British shows. It is a joint British and French production that is filmed on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. While there is nothing particularly special about the show and the writing can be formulaic, it delivers entertainment in most of its episodes. I think that Netflix has five seasons in my area but the show has been renewed again and it in its eight season.

Peep Show is a great British adult comedy. The show follows Mark and Jess, roommates living in London. The audience can hear their thoughts. The reason it's called Peep Show is that every camera shot is from the point of view of a character on the show. There are 8 6 episode seasons on Netflix, a 9th season is on Hulu. The two stars also have a skit show called That Mitchell and Webb Look, which can be found on YouTube.

I upgraded my cable back in 2011 to include BBC America only to watch Luther. Idris Elba & Ruth Wilson have amazing chemistry. I love everything about that show! Also, for serious Anglophiles, check out Acorn.tv for a whole host of great British Television. It's cheap as dirt ( 5/month) for a ton of great Television.

The acting in every Brit show is top notch. They don t really feel the need to emphasize on the actors looks but rather focus more on their talent. And they tend to keep it to the point and usually don t force love stories/triangles on the audience(especially crime dramas where it needs to be a side plot)
