Let's face it. you've done this leg exercise before. Probably hundreds of times. Ever wonder why it still seems so hard to build bigger legs regardless of how many reps you've cranked out on this machine? I'm talking about Leg Extensions. and if you're goal in doing them is to get bigger legs. then it's time to X out these knee crushers and start substituting in a closed chain alternative that actually helps to grow your quads quicker. Knee extensions are the single biggest leg exercise to avoid when you're putting together your workouts. Again, they don't really deliver in the results department and worse. they wreak havoc on your knees and can give you a lifetime of aches. Let celebrity fitness trainer Jeff Cavaliere show you a cutting edge alternative that will have you saying goodbye to leg extensions forever by your next workout. When you're done watching this, then head to to get your hands on a training program that does more than just swap out the dangerous exercises you may be doing for the nondangerous ones. but actually take out the leg exercises that just flat out don't work for building lean muscle and trade them in for the stuff that flat out does!

A lot of people said that they'd be kicked out of the gym for doing that, because it'd trip a lot of people. Or there's not a lot of space at gyms, etc. I hope at least SOMEONE thought of wrapping a resistance band around a tree. Whether that's a tree in your backyard, at the park, by the river, etc. Problem solved.

When I was in my prime 20 years ago I used the whole stack on the leg extension as a warm up which helps with the big compound exercises had no knee problem
Fast forward got to dodgy knees feel no pain whatsoever when doing leg extensions
I find it's one of the few exercises what targets the Teardrop

The reason that leg extensions put 8 times your body weight on your knees is because your lower leg acts as a lever. Think of your lower leg as a crobar, someone is pushing your foot down (handle/end of the crobar. Your knee is at the other end of the crobar and is trying to resist; it gets damaged.

Omg I started a program that called for leg extensions. After a month, now my left knee hurts when I extend it while seated (like a leg extension. Just searched what Jeff had to say about it and this exercise felt much better (in terms of stability, control, everything. Much appreciated!

If legs extensions don't give you any problems, do them. If you feel pain, don't do them. I don't flat bench with a barbell anymore, too much pain and grinding of my shoulders. But dumbbell flat presses feel great. You can't make a blanket statement about an exercise to fit everyone.

I don't know but it works for me! And because i can not do squats because of my knees and my doctor said no more squats! And also i don't like the way my back feels doing them! So I'm sorry he wrong. I have great results from doing leg curls and its much safer!

Leg extensions are only used as: quad warmups for squats and leg presses or post squats and leg presses. Any certified trainer knows this is why you don't go heavy on the machine. Body builders used the machine to shape the quad and hip flexors.

Jeff, I must say, the exercise is hard and awkward to do. Extending each leg the same amount on each rep makes it awkward and hard to do. Not hard like a squat, but hard because holding form is hard. And leg extension is not that bad.

will it work if i walk up and down a stair case forwards and backwards while holding dumbells? i have great balance so im not worried about falling down. I just workout at home but i need something to make my knees stronger besides squats

What if I use resistance tube instead of the machine with loads? Surely this wouldn't hurt vastus medialis and knee joints? High and controlled reps for perfect teardrops and knee health? I mean. this feel soo freaking good!
