X Training System and build that strong, athletic, pro athlete body in just 90 days! TomatoNanny: shrugs and upright rows are the best exercises for traps, your traps gain strength quite rapidly so just stick to it. notice that while the guy in this vid shows you 'new' exercises, they are all variants of the shrug movement.
the 6-12-25 protocol is good for traps. try:
- 6 heavy barbell shrugs
- 12 moderate-weight dumbbell shrugs
- 25 lighter weight plate shrugs
Form is probably where most fail. Don't roll your shoulders, just shrug them up in a slow and controlled motion.

In the very last exercise, I normally use a 25lb plate and raise and lower it. I have never actually done the shrug with it before. Just getting up and trying the motion with the shrug really lets me feel it in my traps. I have been working my ass off with the normal shrugs and other various traps workouts. I will definitely try these because it seems like my traps just aren't where I want them to be. Because everyone who fully watches this video. we really want the awesome looking traps!

Jeff, I love your program and exercise videos! I've been weight training for 43 years now and started getting bored going to the gym and doing the same old things. Your program has made working out fun and challenging again. I would however like to see some specific neck exercises. When I did a search for neck exercises I only found trap exercises and none geared to the neck specifically. What do you recommend?

I love Jeff's videos, but always come off feeling -man! I wish I had discovered this sooner. - I tried this today and it's rough. I had to take a breather at the dumb bell shrug rows. And I was only using 20lb dumbbells at that.
My only complaint is that the dumb bell shrugs and the kettlebell shrugs seem to have snapped my back the ---- up (for you TMW fans out there.

this guy is a fitness expert, his physique is about as good as it gets without steroids. FACT. That many people are used to seeing roidheads compared to pepole who are truly fit; core fitness, cardio, balanced muscle development. Appologies to bodybuilders because i know their aims are different but that is what overall fitness looks like in every aspect.

It's the eccentric lowering part of the rep that nails the rhomboids. Remember, whatever a muscle does to contract it must eccentrically control to get back to the starting position. I have tried this exercise that Jeff recommends and it KILLS my midback (in a good way of course)

I think shrugs are the most worst excersize in the world i hate them so much. I have good traps without ever doing a shrug. But this excersizes you showed are great. Because you can Train your trap almost everytime when u Train your back or your shoulders.

It's irrefutable that this guy is fit and in shape, but when people say he is tiny they are technically correct as well. Power lifters go for strength and size, so compared to them he would be tiny. There's a difference between being bulky and fit.

You are sore because you break muscle fibers. When these regenerate they get stronger and may get bigger. If you dont break those muscle fibers during every workout, you dont get sore, and no results. This is what i do and i get results.
