Jeff. is there a danger of externally rotating too far? How far out are the arms designed to go when the elbow is held at the side? Using the resistance tubing in a standing position, training the right side, and starting with my right hand against the stomach, I go to about 90-100 degrees and then there seems to be a stopping point/point of pain to go any further. I used to do the seated barbell press behind the neck, and though that was external rotation, it was definitely too far in that position. Another way of saying it. I see some guys rotating from the palm on the stomach then going way out, ATTEMPTING to go almost 180 degrees, even with pain. That extreme is not correct, is it? Thanks for your informative videos!

Why do you need to work the rotators with any weight at all? I think the Bruegger stretch can bring you a long way to fixing rotator/shoulder issues. And you can do the Bruegger stretch anywhere with no weights, especially helpful for people that sit at a desk all day. It gives you the same external rotation and pulls your shoulder back, trying to reach your pinkies to the sky. You can do it with elbows bent or arms straight.
I also do that move while you're kind of in a shoulder press posture and you internally and externally rotate your shoulder joint. With or without extremely light dumbbells. 5 pounds or less.

THIS should be a part of primary school god damnit, having shoulder problems because of -bro - benching- sucks and it takes so much time to get rid of issues like -nerve impingement- -muscle inflammations- in your shoulders and neck, been doing rehab for 3 months, only seeing slight improvements so far. doctors tell you to stop exercising untill we know what this is about, and throw a bunch of painkillers at you. My doctor didnt even know what serratus anterior was. Take care of your body, no one else is gonna do it for you (jeff will tell you though) thanks jeff.

Amen on this video! In my early 40's started having a stabbing pain in my shoulder. After being stubborn and training through the pain; finally decided to see the doctor after it kept feeling like someone was carving my shoulder with a knife while trying to sleep! Turns out I overdeveloped front delt/chest and underdeveloped rear delts upper back. And yes I did neglect those areas. Had to go to P. T. and learned to train rear delts. (Just like in this video) Problem was for the most part solved.

-blackiechan52 I agree. I stopped using them for about 5 weeks (went overseas, etc, etc. I know, no excuse, but I swear, my body did not like it! Neither did I. His exercises have really made a difference in my life and I kick myself for stopping because now I have to go back and double up my efforts. I'm a woiman, by the way and I just want to say that his exercises are VERY effective for women as well, just adjust weights, etc. THANK YOU JEFF! Never shall I take a break again! LOL!

I had to lay off the front delt/chest for a year! but in the long run I gained because I am now stronger in my chest/ triceps and front delts and my shoulders do have a nicer appearance. My upper back and traps have definitely benefited. So please don't make the mistakes I have and follow the advice in this video! I also learned that rear delts work better with lower weight/ higher reps. Thank You for the video! (Liked the rear delt destroyer video in relation to this)

Jeff I am fixing to have shoulder surgery, I have completely torn my rotator cuff tendon away from the bone on my left shoulder, I do not remember which tendon the doctor told me was torn, but my Question is this, once this is fixed and I have completed my therapy, how often should I do rotator cuff training, and how many sets and repetitions should be done with each Exercise, when I'm able to start working out again, Thank you for All your help and suggestions

I hurt my arm doing external rotation like this with a cable machine. Like, the muscle you have to the right of your elbow. Took me several days to recover, couldn't even do pullups during that period because of the pain in my arm. Don't wanna risk that again. I believe I already get external rotation in many exercises. When I train my upper back with reversed flyes and when I train the posterior deltoids. Maybe I will try it just gently with resistance bands.

Man, looking at your body I believe that you are right and I'm starting to like your videos more and more. The problem is that you tend to insist too much on the same things in a video, when all I would want is just the information. You prove that you are right with your body, so you shouldn't repeat everything three times just to prove your point.
Sincere advice. No offence! You're doing a very good job!

Just started AthleanX today, the first day using a RC exercise, I felt a new burn in my shoulders. This video makes complete sense and i feel I after years of training i have a slight turn in posture in my shoulders. So my question would be, is the amount of ER Rotor Cuff sets in the program enough to reverse this or could add them in 3 times a week?
