On one hand we-ve got so-called fitness -experts- overcomplicating leg training and making it seem far more complex that is really is. On the other hand, however, more and more minimalist trainers have gone the other route: claiming that building bigger legs is as simple as squatting heavy. The truth, however, lies somewhere in the middle. You see, building an aesthetically pleasing lower body doesn-t have to be this elaborate process where you hit the legs from all different angles; likewise, it-s usually not as simple as squatting every day. If you want to build bigger legs, there are two things that have to happen: For starters, you-ve got to understand the anatomy and physiology of the lower body. Once you understand what muscles are involved and, more importantly, what function they-re responsible for, choosing the right exercises and how to perform them more effectively becomes obvious. Second, once you-ve chosen your main exercises, focus on progression. If you-re performing the right exercises using proper form and gradually increasing the load (i. e. increasing reps without sacrificing weight or increasing weight without sacrificing reps, your legs will grow. In this video I go over the basic anatomy of the legs and their functions, and I share the perfect science-based lower body workout for mass

To me, all of this makes very little sense. You begin by properly explaining the anatomy of the main musculature that make up the legs and glutes. IMO, when people think of 'legs', they are primarily referring to the quads. 3 of the 4 muscles that make up the quads have 1 primary function. knee extension. However, you don't include any movements that involve knee extension? All of this seems very glute, hip flexor & hamstring based. Nothing wrong with that. BUT, what about he quads? You also mention that on a few exercises, research suggests that they are better at quad activation than barbell back squats. All of this comes down to, again, knee extension. Traditional barbell back squats, despite this unpopular fact, are not great quad builders. Not a bad exercise (though a lot of risk, but not optimal for quad development. The exercises you recommend that research suggest are better for quad building are movements that allow you to extend the knee the most. What you really should mention is it really depends on how you perform the movement. They way you demonstrate, they would not be great for the quads. However, on lunges for example, if you take shorter steps and let you knees come over your toes, you would place much more emphasis on your quads. Just an example.

What a load of crap! All machines are near useless & should never be compared to compound like Squats. Squats are the best way & always have been! Also, they way that guy is straightening his legs when coming up from Squats is ridiculous! You keep the lags bent - all times. Very poor Clip.

I-m a little surprised he didn-t add an exercise for the calves. I know most of the exercises work the calves in some way, but why not add say calf raises. Why have aesthetic looking legs but with tiny calves
