Mont Blanc // My 3rd Attempt to Climb Western Europes Highest Peak - Mountain trips

I've travelled to Chamonix twice before with the intention of climbing the surprisingly deadly Mont Blanc. On both previous attempts we got rained out and spent our time under a gloomy sky. This time however, the sun shone brightly on Chamonix and the surrounding Mont Blanc Massif. After failing to accurately research our trip we found ourselves driving a poorly equipped 2 wheel drive rental up to Col De Voza. From there we took the normal route or the Goter Route up to Tte Rousse. Our original plan was to stay at a different refuge but nothing we kinda planned really worked out. So we improvised all the way to the summit which according to recent news has shrunk by 3 feet. Thank goodness, I'm not sure Christof could have handled another 3 feet

You lads would have loved the old Tete Rousse hut (and the old Gouter hut! The new huts look positively palatial in comparison!
In 1978 I climbed Mt Blanc via the Gouter (spent a nights in both the Tete Rousse hut and the Gouter hut) and descended via the Bossons Glacier. In 1980 did the same route going up, but continued to do the traverse, ending at the Aiguille du Midi (taking the lift down to the valley. Good times in the older huts! (Wow, even the Refuge Vallot looks new. That place was just literally a shell-ter, with nothing inside but snow and detritus)

Could someone explain to me why they have a rope tied to eachother when they dont even have ice axes in their hands
In my eyes the only thing that that does is that if one slides down the other one comes with him. Youre not going to stop a man sliding down such a steep snowy hill with some crampons and walking sticks. I would really like to know what they are thinking when doing this

Hey guys I'm new to your adventures, great videos and amazing views! I live and hike in Idaho but have never done these type of quick ascent trips so it's very very impressive watching you accomplish this much in so little time. Could the slowdown have been somewhat attributed to the altitude among many other factors?
Keep up the adventuring and stay safe!

Glad for your climb, but Tete Rousse refuge is one of the most welcoming huts in the Alps. You wanted to be a penthouse? Well, go to Alaska my friend, you will have all the space you need. Also, that route is the easiest one possible. No deadly mountain here. Just some rocks falling on the Grand Couloir.

Your videos are always a delight. I am also especially pleased that you correctly point out that Mont Blanc is Western Europe's highest peak, not all of Europe's highest peak, which is Elbrus in the Caucasus. So many people (in Western Europe and elsewhere) are not aware of that.

Damn, I would be furious if I trained hard, bought all the gear and paid for the trip just to get snubbed by some rain. Now I've jinxed my attempt, nice. Also, why the choice of skiing pants? :) Seems like they'd be too hot for the beginning of the climb.

For knowing what the heck you're doing, you guys sure do forget a lot of stuff. Maybe a packing list? So with the rope, was the plan that if one of you fell off one side of the ridge, the other would jump off the other side to counterbalance?
reply

when you're on that summit ridge, roped together with walking poles rather than ice axes, I guess the idea is that if one of you goes, the other goes too? Thanks for posting, when I did it there were no portable video cameras.

Congrats on making Mont Blanc a success.

Belgians too have got high peaks, one of the longest and highest ski track in Europe: 2 km long, altitude 565 metres, at La Barack de Friture (The Fry House. Longer and higher than French Alps.

Climb? You can literally walk to the summit, no climbing needed. Also Mont Blanc is not deadly, and people with no background in mountaneering routinely summit it in a sunday afternoon.
reply

I've never seen anyone walk with such suppressed aggressoion as Christof haha. It looks like each of his steps is a struggle to death and he takes it seriously!

First good wishes for reaching summit, but i cant believe why this Videos good that lot views. Normalroute in two days. This Route is very bring and grounded.
reply

Great you achieved your summit but for all the new, people watching this. Please, dont copy these, guys. so many things they did, are not the correct safe way.
reply

wauw, absolutely terrifying to be on such a small snowy ridge. i've climed smaller ridges without snow, i would never ever dare what you do. great video
reply

He makes it look easy but I promise you that is hard grueling work. Hes just in excellent shape and does this constantly. Thats extremely hard.

I'm no mountaineer but what's in the backpack if you're wearing all your clothes? It looks like a full pack even though you have all of your layers on.
reply

Am I naive to find it a worry that without familiarity of the route, any route, that winging it in the dark without a guide seems dangerous?
reply

Why did watching this make me feel like it could be something I could accomplish next week with my non-existent mountaineering experience.
reply

Great video! That view from the summit looked outstanding, that looked like one tough sketchy climb, well done, atb Mick
