This video is super old, so I doubt many will see this comment.
But in regards to the 'crappy service, ' it's mainly due to different cultures. Parisians value quiet, politeness and nothing too direct and super-friendly. Use your inside voice. There is nothing worse than trying to enjoy a nice quiet meal when a loud tourist comes in and yell-talks to the person sitting in front of them. Then they get mad when they have 'bad service. ' Any type of direct eye contact can put someone off as well if it is more than a split second, almost. Smiling at strangers or giving someone a hug is even creepier.
People come to a new place and expect it to work the same as it does back where they live. Don't expect the world to adjust to you, you have to adjust to the world. Study social norms before you travel to a new country. Don't just barge in and expect everything to go your way.

Personally I didnt like Paris at all. The French people were very rude and one older man told my husband he was too fat to sit next to hit (he is 220lbs 5'8. It was very offensive. We thought the food was mediocre, over priced, and service sucked everywhere we went. I get that the culture is different but I feel like people went out of their way to be rude. The metro from the airport to the city center was closed and it took 4 hours for us to get out of the airport. Then there was a strike 2 days later. The Louvre was PACKED with tourists who were lost just like us because signage sucks (even in french. We spent 4 nights in Paris and luckily Rome saved our Europe vacation. I LOVED Rome. The people, the food, the culture was great. Even public transport was so much easier.

I love Paris, I have visited about 7 times over the years, I've never had problems with pickpockets but then I am careful in any European capitals. One thing I don't like about Paris though, is that if they think you don't know their language, they will address you using the tu form. I feel it disrespectful and condescending. Any Parisians reading this please don't do it.
On the other hand if you make the effort to speak some French, they will often be extra nice to you.

Going to Paris for the first time in July. I don't want to spend too much time in queues (lines, as you call them; -) ) as I'm only there for 2 days before heading to Provence, so I'd rather experience the food, culture and sights.
However, any tips on things that I MUST try to do while there?
I'm tempted by the Louvre, but I feel like it will be too busy in July and I should save it until another time. As I'm in the UK, getting to Paris is not that difficult.

I visited Paris for two weeks in April a few years ago and saw almost everything, and the lines were not bad at all. Im going next month in August and Im afraid there will be limes. If there are lines, I wonder if its better to go places later in the day? I need to check prices, times (open/close, passes, etc. Id like to have passes ahead of time I just dont want to deal with crazy lines.

Mark I cant believe HOW MUCH this video still applies to Paris 2018 (six years after you made the video. I was just in Paris, and guess what? Huge strike on Saturday!
But it was still wonderful and Id highly recommend visiting Paris during Christmas time! (Late November to early December is best due to lower fares)

Absolutely get into shape to walk at least 5 miles a day. Also have proper shoes and take bandaids. This is a must! Walking is preferable to any metro. I got my best pictures by riding on top of the red bus. Get a 3-day pass it's well worth it! But be careful of the time and location of the last stop!

I went to Paris 2 years ago and saw the long lines so we just walked around Paris, had my hair done ate the restaurant Louise next to Timhotel, fantastic had wonderful Foie Gras and beef boughinion and down by Norte Dame there was a sidewalk cafe called Quasimodo good coffee and omelet

Video tip: don't cut out the narrative audio track when you cut to a picture. Better to keep talking over pics then go silent. And I'd like to see more reference pics. Going to winter in Paris. Any tips. Great vids. Thanks

I've been to Paris twice, and never encountered any rude service. (The pickpockets did get me, though)
As for lines, it depends on the time of day; I found many lines tend to get very short in the late afternoon.
