How to Find Deals for Traveling Abroad as a Family - Wolters World
video description
Also, BJs has discounted giftcards for travel. I know they had the southwest $200 gift card for $159. 99 a month ago (which I missed. ugh, but even right now they have hotels. com $100 for $79. 99. You can pass it through the Southwest portal and get miles on the purchases too. It all adds up! They don't seem to enforce the 3 giftcards per person limit ever, either. I've seen discounted giftcards for AirBnB on slickdeals too (just search for that on the site.

Having worked here in Southern Bavaria as Tourist Guide while i was studying at the University, i can only add that if you come to South Bavaria and have kids, we have these culturally bavarian Landhaus and Bauernhaus of which many have been turned into Hotels where every Room has at least 4+ Beds (One big one for the parents and the rest for one person) and you don't pay extra for the Room. It's also luxurious enough as these are old houses from the 1800s of rich Bavarians or rich Farming Moguls
The Downside is that it's obviously not near the city center nor in the city itself, so only recommended if you drive here (Like many Brits do f. e) or if you planned on renting a car anyway.

Love these practical advice videos. 3: 50 _Don't think that the cheapest ticket is always the best deal for your family. _ So true. In addition to all the add-ons listed, remember that some budget airlines fly into smaller airports outside of your city destination. Obviously with on-line maps people should easily spot this but new travelers may get confused. Also, 60 miles seems fine but if you land very late (which is common for discount tickets, you may have missed the last cheap train/bus into the city. If you land too early, you may be stuck for hours waiting for the first run. Things to consider.

Hi Mark! It would be cool to see a follow up video for travel tips for traveling solo. Thankfully in my situation I'm able to book travel pretty much whenever I want. I literally stole a flight from Raleigh NC to Tokyo in late April (While I was on Orbitz just searching random cities and dates I cam across a ridiculous web fare) With that said, the places I'll be staying at in Japan (Capsule Hotels and Hotels) don't allow large size bags. A video about travelling minimally (10-14 days with just a backpack and carry-on) would be cool to see as well. Thanks!

I agree 100% that the cheapest ticket is not always the cheapest. Last year I went to Iceland. At Wow Air counter at the airport, I met a lot of travellers who perhaps misunderstood the fee structure of their tickets. The results were that they had to pay extra for their luggage, and slowed down the check-in process for the rest of us.
A lot of American and European airlines these days do not have check-in luggage included in their based prices. definitely need to watch out!

I agree with you, when it comes to flight, hotels and school with the kids. Because I've been traveling to Europe for the last 2yrs. I've been to Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Porto, Lisboa, London, Stockholm and Copenhagen. Last year I took my daughter and sister with me Barcelona we went on Thanksgiving break because the tickets were cheaper around that time. Did not buy round-trip, I bought one-way ticket both ways and saved hundreds of $$$.

Hi Mark. Very helpful video. I'm just curious. Is Jocelyn in the paid workforce? If so, she must have a very generous and flexible boss. Also do you research your trips together. I know in our case my husband and I decide a rough itinerary and then I research, research, research and show him with the options, often finding other things along the way. (I have time to do it and he doesn't) Thanks for the great info.

Cool traveling off season is key.
I guess an renting an apartment for a bunch of people makes sense since hotels charge per person and could be 75-200 dollars per night. Just depends how long you are there. If you are moving around alot then no but if you are staying 3 weeks or even 2 weeks I can see how renting for a month would save money. Great point. I never thought of it that way before.

For transportation passes, it doest have to be a family ticket, there are group tickets. We got a day group ticket in Stuttgart for 11 Euro for the 4 of us. We took 9 rides that day - 36 in total - so the cost was about 30 Eurocent per ride.
For rentals in Germany, kids under a certain age may be free. The 3rd & 4th guest can be as low as 4 Euro each. The most we have paid for #3 & #4 is 15E each.

Great tips! We are in Vienna enjoying the beautiful yet busy Christmas markets. We are a family of 4 and kayak helped us find a great deal flying into Rome ($400 and change for all of us! What) From there we flew to Vienna and tomorrow we fly to Krakow with just carry-on of course but it actually is better. We also used airbnb for our lodging. Its turned out to be a great holiday vacation.
