Ah my home town. You'll have to come back, a lot has changed here since 2014, for the better! I used to work in that beautiful building, now the entirety of Parliament Hill is construction zone and cornered off. Though, Parliament's Centre Block is closed for renovations and rehabilitation for the next 10+ years. But the temporary buildings (House of Commons is in West Block - the parliamentary building to the left of you, and the Senate is in the old train station - across from the Chateau Laurier, are both worth a visit!
I love to hate Ottawa, but its not too bad for place with 1. 4 million (metro. It has its perks, its clean, has a lot of green space, nature, and festivals. Food and shopping have gotten much better over the years! The downtown core has undergone major street scaping and rehabilitation, much nicer. A lot of what is great about Ottawa is more found its in smaller neighborhoods, rather than the more touristy areas (like the Byward Market. Hope you come again! I will have many suggestions. The Summer and Fall are the best times to visit.

Great video! Im an Ottawa resident. You hit on some of the great things we have to offer. Just one note, The Museum of History is the name of the formerly known Museum of Civilization. Fantastic museum! There are even more great museums beyond the Bytown (By, as in Colonel By - not Bay) such as the museum of Science & Tech, the Agricultural museum, and the Aviation Museum to name a few. Next time, check out the Diefenbunker. Its a former nuclear war bunker with everything that one needed at the time it was meant for during the Cold War. Laurier house, trip around the Governor Generals place and a car ride around Rockland would also be on any tourisms today do list. Next time you are here, Id love to show you around Wolter family!

It's Byward Market, eh? Pronounced 'Bye-Ward'. Named for Col John By, who built the Rideau Canal which connects Ottawa w/ Kingston Ontario, at Lake Ontario. The National Capital of Canada was originally in Kingston, but that city's proximity to the USA (you can see the USA from there) was un-nerving for Canadians b/c of the invasions of Canada from the US during the War of 1812. So after Canada became independent of the UK in 1867, they moved the capital to Ottawa. The Rideau Canal was built w/the intent of improving trade and most importantly soldiers in case the US invaded again.

Just a heads up, the centre block of Parliament (the old and best part behind Mark, is currently closed for at least 10 years for much needed renovations. It's really cool, but sadly it's closed. However another part of the complex now houses parliament and is a modern chamber with exterior walls of a courtyard on the sides. There's a giant glass roof. It's a cool replacement.
Cheers from Vancouver Island, BC.

Canada stole beavertails from Hungarians. The owner of beavertails had a Hungarian relative and he likely grew up with Langos which is Hungarian fried bread aka beavertails. Langos is a Hungarian street food where in Hungary its not Id say a sweet snack but in Canada, Canadians put sugar ingredients on it. Also beavertails are way over priced, almost $10 CAD? Bro I can get them for free in the kitchen.

I have been so down because of the pandemic but seeing this video about my home perked me up! I know this was filmed a while back. Ottawa is over a million now! You pretty much touched on everything I would suggest to a tourist. The National Gallery is probably my #1. Yes we dont have a Picasso from Canada but we have many amazing artists!

I am from Canada (British Columbia, and I am decently well-travelled for only being 24 years old (I've been to 28 countries and have lived in 3, but I have never been to Ottawa, my own nation's capital! And I have never eaten (or even seen) a beaver tail.

I might have mentioned the changing of the guard that runs during the summer at parliament hill since it is the second most visited attraction in Canada. I think Rideau hall and the tulip festival would have also been worth mentioning.
