I booked this Athens apartment on Airbnb and paid $78. 67 USD per night- (use my affiliate link for $33 off your first booking. JULY 2017 When my wife and I visited Athens, Greece, we decided to rent an apartment for accommodation during out stay. Although the apartment doesn't look that great from the outside, the inside was very nice, and very classic. The owner did a great job of decorating so it was slightly arty, yet still clean and very comfortable. Although we didn't have a view of the acropolis from the balcony, the apartment was located very close to the Athens Acropolis, and just a short walk from Syngrou Fix station. I paid $78. 67 per night, for my wife and I and our baby. We chose a place that was more pricey because it was bigger and had a couple of closed door rooms, which we need these days when we travel with a baby. If you rent an apartment or plan to live in Greece or Athens, you'll get a much better price than what I paid just for a few days stay. But I hope this video gives you an idea / glimpse into living in Greece! If you want to use Airbnb, you can use my affiliate link here: to get $33 off your first booking

Typical 1960s apartment building, built during the building boom that lasted between the mid 50s to mid 70s. Although the intentions were good (to replace outdated and inadequate housing) it was done without any urban planning or conservation in mind, which meant that neoclassical masterpieces were demolished, not enough open public spaces, parking or urban landscaping. The look of every city is a testament of its history. BTW, love your videos Mark!

This brings back many memories when I lived in Greece in the early 80s, they do have much more modern and nicer places today, but very pricey, what I do miss we had a wrap around balcony the whole area around the apartment which was the whole third floor, where on one side we had a view of the ocean, another side the acropolis, on another the mountains, were we spent many evenings watching beautiful sunsets

Dear Mark, many many thanks for your videos from which I enjoy & learn a lot. I live in India, in the city of Kolkata - probably the cheapest in this globe - so far I believe! Now among your really nice nice videos, I think this apartment in Athens is the best & also cheapest! Ever plan a tour in Kolkata, let me know. Waiting for more of your videos. Best wishes.

I've seen similar size and type of elevator in older buildings in Italy. Some elevators have also an inner accordion metal door ( or vice versa) and you need to make sure that both doors are closed before it'll move or else you'll get a complaint/shout from someone about it because they can't access the elevator.

Why did you pay that much for an apartment that's not very nice?
I have been searching listings in Athens and find much more beautiful places for that price or even less.
Did you book at the last minute or something?
Or maybe you just didn't bother to search carefully?

It's a very nice apartment - out of my budget but lovely nonetheless. The apartment I lived in, in Madrid also had a marble staircase - which just doesn't exist in Australia. Mediterraneans love their wood, middle ages furniture. I would be living on that balcony in any heat.

Awesome to have the top floor, do you know if the other levels, 4 or 3 is cheaper? I know here in Canada, the price changes after the 6th floor/ Thanks for sharing, this apartment you stayed in is very very nice, look forward to your next videos/

Nice apartment. I remember staying in Athens in the 1980s and those lifts were in used back then. Good to see they're still working. The block I lived in was almost identical to this one. Did you have air conditioning? Good video.

Hi Mark! I just love your videos. Your videos and narration make everything so relatable. You're like a friend narrating about his travels, food and experiences to his other friends. Keep up the good work. Hi to Yin and Micah.
