Thank you for including this failed attempt. I have summited all of the Cascade majors by more than one route but I have been turned back more times than success trips. Watching your very enjoyable videos can create an inappropriate view of mountain adventures. It is worth documenting less successful days to keep expectations more reasonable. My first failed Rainier attempt ( in 1964) was much like yours - early season whiteout and rain on the trip to the prow. I finally made it as a winter climb in 1968

For what its worth, there is a hack for the pedal dilemma. Requires a pedal wrench or equivalent however. Often times you can reface the threads bye threading pedal into the crank from the backside. Careful in, careful out, and a lot of times the threads are reformed the entirety of the through hole. Mount the pedal as per normal after refacing. Lube the pedal threads with whatever you have. Chapstick, Dermatone, etc.

Great and semi-miseable adventure once again as always, the only thing that's missing is Kristoff's subtle pessimism.
You guys have probably done it but Pfeifferhorn in Utah (near Salt Lake City) is a great peak to summit in late Fall or early Spring when all the sorroundings are snowy and alpine looking. My favorite peak in the area and probably all of Utah, great one to check out!

We tried climbing Adams in August a couple years ago and made it up to the floor of a dark cloud surrounding the mountain with sideways rain and dozens of people coming down early. We turned around as well and on our way down booked a consolation prize whitewater rafting the white salmon river. It was still awesome. When are we gonna see the rest of your Mt. Adams suckfest footage?

I live about 1. 5 hrs from Sunrise and go out that direction a lot. I'm not sure when you guys did this, but 410 (the hwy to Sunrise) opened about a week or two ago. The weather this year has been weird. Record setting lows and rainfall for both May and June. It's definitely not our normal weather. Hopefully, you got to enjoy the solitude with the seasonal closure.

This has been the coolest wettest spring in the northwest I can remember. Nov thru Feb is constant rain clear weekends are rare but June thru Sept should be mostly sun with only a few weak storms, most weekend clear. We put up with gloomy winters because summers are normally wonderful, its very frustrating when rain or smoke makes the summer even shorter.

I think most people would have looked at the planned climb as serious mountaineering on a serious mountain. The Mediocre Amateurs weren't mentally or physically prepared for serious mountaineering and wisely turned around. Better mountaineers than them have died on Rainier. Willi Unsoeld comes to mind. Good decision to turn around.

I'm planning a trip to Rainer National Park this summer, and while I don't think I'll be able to summit (I'll have my 6 month old in tow, this episode got me even more stoked to get out there for the first time. Great episode as always. its amazing how good the video quality you get while doing these huge days!

I see you did NOT use any common sense! If you see a cloudcap over the summit of any of the volcanoes in the PNW, YOU DO NOT START A CLIMB! I can't believe you actually have to tell people this. That cloudcap was over the mountain before they started, so a total WASTE of time. Nature culling out the idiots.

in 2000 i red a lot of books by Reinhold Messner, Hans Kammerlander and so. And all of them said you have to learn to abort and turn home. Most of them learned it the hard way (losing parts of their bodies, losing climbing mates. being a below average amateur i follow this advise.

We are never guarenteed a summit each time. Emmons can throw some curve balls and in the PNW soup of lately, it was a wise choice to not climb. Not sure what weather site you are using but I have found that MeteoBlue has become my best friend when hitting remote areas here in the PNW.

It has been total shit around here for weather, I have been watching the guided climbs of Rainier with RMI, so many climbers have been skunked trying to summit Rainier because the weather has been so bad. You guys got some good turns in despite the horrible conditions.

I had to laugh at the video on Adams. My climbing partner and myself Climbed Adams in the same conditions. I couldn't see a thing on top. Anyway, Rainier is no joke. It creates its own weather. Very wise to turn around since you were packing light. Great video.

I live in Washington and man, the drizzle has been horrible this year. I experienced very similar conditions on Helens a few weeks ago, raining/windy/slushy/no visibility. It just makes it all miserable. The weatherman had also failed us.

I love your videos and have a suggestion. Please put all your names in the description. It makes it more engaging to know who's who. I know Danny, forgot the second guy's name, and don't think I've ever seen the third one. Thanks!

. and, that folks is why it's called the North Worst. Good to see you guys hashing out the problem, making a hard (but correct) choice to turn around. Will make a great video and even sweeter experience when you go back.

That cloud on the summit was a lenticular. They are not to be messed with and you guys were smart to avoid the 100mph winds and whiteout conditions on the summit that day. Nice turns were still had by all. Cheers.

Quick question, I noticed that you guys have quite a bit of Ortovox kit. I have been wanting to buy some of their stuff lately for mountaineering, what do you think of their products, are they good?

Everyone needs a good failed objective every once in a while to keep our decision making sharp. If you get 99 great days in a row you expect it and the 100th with bad weather might wreck you.

Loved Danny's I'm only partially emasculated getting towed by Chase. Glad you guys got at least some skiing in and that you all decided to back off the summit until better conditions exist.
