African Helicopter Safari

During my recent visit to Botswana, we got the chance to experience an African Helicopter Safari. It was awesome! Mostly because it was pretty scary since the pilot removed the doors! We felt completely exposed. And you will too! If you watch this African Helicopter Safari video. You'll see animals like Elephants, Crocodiles, and Hippos from above. This Robinson R44 Helicopter flew as low as a few feet off of the ground and as high as 5, 000 feet. that's where it got kind of scary, honestly! Looking out the window. I mean. over the edge (there was no window) was pretty impressive. This African Helicopter Safari was truly one of the most amazing experiences of my life. The animals didn't seem to mind us and the vantage point from a Helicopter Safari is completely different than the view from the ground. You'll hear the Robinson R44 Startup and enjoy the amazing talents of an incredible Robinson R44 Helicopter pilot

The first aircraft I ever flew in was a helicopter when I was 5. I'm 63 now. I still remember the flight. There were helicopter rides at the local fair. My father took me on one. We lived near a bunch of dairies and I remember looking down on the cows. We also flew over our house. As a child I flew in helicopters a few times after that. We took the helicopter shuttle from SNA to LAX and back a few times.
A great memory years later was a time I was flying a hot air balloon and the winds were perfect and took me over my house. I saw my daughter looking up at me from her bedroom window. The look on her face was oh, it's just Daddy in his balloon, no big deal. When your kids grow up around aviation, it's just an everyday thing that they'd see Daddy fly over the house in his balloon.

I have had only one experience in a helicopter but it was incredible. We I was growing up my parents had a friend who was a doctor and at one point he was working with the Los Angeles County Fire Department on their helicopter rescues. We went and toured the facilities and they offered to take us up in the helicopter. We spent almost an hour flying around the mountains north of Los Angeles and the pilot showed up his piloting skills trying to scare the boy in the seat next him. It was the ride of the lifetime specially since it would never be allowed today.

Ive flown in jet helicopters in Kauai, Hawaiian Islands (which is really the only way to see the island since so much of it is inaccessible) and also over the Grand Canyon (where we landed below the rim for a champagne luncheon. Both flights were costly BUT so happy we ponied up the $$$. Both flights had doors. thank you very much! I am retiring in 60 days (but whos counting) and have my agent working on 3 major trips. 16 days Safari/Cape Town/Garden Route. 30 days in Japan & Hong Kong (Cherry Blossom) and New Zeala.

A crash of hippos? A bask of crocodiles? I love learning new things/terms! That was an incredible flight, Jeb, and you genuinely enjoyed it! I could tell by your giddiness! Helicopters scare me; Kudos to you! Was 5, 000 feet enough to feel a temperature difference? Thanks for making this video of your adventure over the Okavango Delta. See you in the sky, someday!

Fantastic video! Amazing scenery! Only time i've been on a helicopter is from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon and we got to fly over the Hoover Dam, it was a great experience.

I have flown twice in helicopters. Once in an R44 like you but in Newcastle and it had doors. In 2014 at the Farnborough Airshow I flew in a Bell 206L which also has doors.

You should look at going on the Qantas flight from SYD to JNB on QF63. It's route takes the 747 over the Antarctic beautiful views.
