Delta, American, and United CRJ200 Regional Jet Comparison

As a frequent flyer, theres one question Ive struggled with when it comes to regional flying: Who has the worst CRJ200? Is it Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, or United Airlines? Each of these airlines rely on CRJ200s Regional Jets to make short, thin routes profitable. And, on that account, the CRJ200 Regional Jet seems to work. By virtually any other measure, though, the CRJ200 is terrible, making Delta, American, and United experiences less pleasant. Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, and United Airlines all operate CRJ200 Regional Jet aircraft through their regional partners (Delta Connection, American Eagle, and United Express. Over the last couple of months, Ive traveled onboard CRJ200s belonging to each airline. Spoiler Alert: It was TERRIBLE! In this video, Ill share my experiences on each airline so that you can decide which one you think is the worst. Was it the: Delta CRJ200 American CRJ200 United CRJ200 (United CL65) Ive also included some interesting facts about the history and current status of the CRJ200. Be sure to leave a comment to let me know which one you think is the worst!

Honestly, they all look just as bad as the rival airline's CRJ 200. I just got back from LaGrange, GA, which as a small regional airport that only flies Delta and United. I am a loyalist to United, and also since I live closer to Dulles than National-Regan. I have, however, flew Delta from BWI to Atlanta on a CRJ 200, and it was an absolute penalty box. To set up an experiment, I decided to try the United CRJ 200 and it was just as bad. The seats were extremely narrow, and I have back problems, so my back was hurting. The only difference I found was the top stack in the Delta CRJ 200 looked different from the United CRJ 200.

I just flew on a Delta connection CRJ200 on a 45 min hop from Albany, Ga to Atlanta. That was 45 minutes too long for me on a CRJ. Even got an Delta Skymiles upgrade to Comfort+. That was a joke. The front row was considered Comfort+ and May have had a little more space between the wall and the seat, still uncomfortable. I used to hate flying Mad Dogs and the 717 until I flew on the CRJ200. Never again will I complain about a 717 (too bad the Mad Dogs are retired.

I've flew on Delta Connection from Detroit to Syracuse and Syracuse to JFK. It was very uncomfortable, but I slept somehow from Detroit to Syracuse. I did fly the A319 and the A320 from JFK to Detroit and Detroit to Austin. My local airport has only 3 airlines going to it, Southwest, American Eagle, and United Connection. I'm probably going to fly out with Southwest to JFK via connection in Houston soon

Delta/Skywest must have changed their policy because at my job as a ramp agent, we simply send all gate checked bags to baggage claim unless theyre pink tags (like strollers or wheelchairs) or the passenger is switching airlines. They all go directly to baggage claim at their final destination, essentially just becoming checked bags.

Arent they all bad? Just out of experience I have to say United. Havent flown American, being from ATL Im most likely choosing Delta unless its like when I flew to London and got a stellar deal with BA. I was not impressed with United from Newark to Dublin as the 757 we flew was old and cramped.

Thanks for the info. I have an upcoming flight with three legs each way. One of those three legs will be on the American CRJ200. Fortunately, that is the shortest leg of my journey. The rest of the trip will be on larger, more comfortable aircraft, with my seats being in first class.

The smallest plane ive been on WAS a United Express CRJ-200. I agree with jeb. The biggest for me was United's 777-X. The worst was definitly the CRJ. But, it is good for small flights like me. When i was on the CRJ, i was flying out of Philadelphia International to go to chicago.

The CRJ serve a purpose
You cannot expect 747 size and service when Flying Regional.
The CRJ is big step up from the Beech 1900 or Metro, Piper Chieftain for example
Dare say it won't be long before Airbus 220 will be on regional routes
Happy Days

The CRJ-200 is an aircraft I have had the displeasure of flying on many a time. I frequently fly ATl-XNA to visit family, and I have flown on a CRJ every time except once (a 737 right before christmas. Very not fun and truly not an experience I look forwards to.

I think they're all very much the same experience. I usually like the regional jet experience, as it feels like the sports car of the sky, although it can get claustrophobic, especially after the 2-hour mark. My favorite regional jet is probably the ERJ-145.

United was probably the best in terms of service, Delta in terms of comfort options, due to the Comfort+ seats, and therefore American is probably the worst. But if there wasn't a Stroopwafel on United then they would be the worst.

What I find funny about air travel is at first getting through the airport in long tsa and boarding lines and getting into a cramp seat is awful, but then when you lands, there like feel free to take whatever bad you like
reply

I just found out that envoy is phasing out the E145 planes and air Wisconsin signed a 5 year contract with American eagle which goes into effect March 2023 which means we will be getting the CRJ-200's

Im 64 and I cant even stand up to walk down the middle aisle. I was so pleasantly surprised when a regional flight I took recently was on an Embraer E-175. Much better experience for a regional flight!
reply

Delta had the worst, American had the best. (That does not mean it is good though)
The best regional jet is the United CRJ-550. It has so much storage for carry on bags and it has a refreshed cabin.

Putting th3 CRJ 200 in the context of what it is, a turboprop replacement, it is not that terrible. When airlines run them on flights greater than 400 miles is a torturous experience!
reply

my family and I live in edmonton Canada and we used to fly home through yyc and we'd be on the -8q400. i was happy being on one of these, man turboprops suck lowkey

I flew one a decade ago back when US Airways was a thing flew it to phoenix I dont know what it was but I liked the US Airways livery its boring but cool.

I recently flew on a Delta Connection CRJ200 from LGA to Syracuse and thankfully it was a very short flight. I tend to avoid this aircraft whenever possible.
reply

This is a trick question. The answer is they are all terrible. Quite possibly one of the most uncomfortable planes I've been on. Love all your content Jeb!

back in 2019 I flew an a320 to seattle, and this year a crj200 to knoxville (both united) and i found the crj200 infinitely more comfortable than the a320
reply

I'm very glad that CRJ-200s are being replaced with CRJ-550s. They're CRJ-700s that have only 50 seats, the same as the much smaller CRJ-200.
reply

Well, I'm flying one of these on United in a couple of days and I don't think I've flown in a 200 in a while. Still, I hope I get that stroopwaffle
reply

CRJ is the worst. CRJ 700 and CRJ 900 is no better. It annoys the living daylights out of me that you have to check in normal sized cabin luggage
reply

Well after March 15th 2023 at DTW you won't be flying anymore Endeavor CRJ 200 cause they will be all gone, and Skywest will be soon to follow.
reply

Lol American wins the worst crj200. I am from New Zealand and I will refuse to fly them but air nz does not operate them! And fly air nz
reply

The Embraer 175 is by far tighter, smaller, and not a good deal. You can get this for flights from OHare to La Crosse and back.
reply

Im pretty sure that I have flown on a CRJ 200 for American Airlines. I found it like most American Airlines planes, very hard landings
reply

lucky for me, my small airport uses 717's now for its most popular route, and sometimes an a320, so i dont have to deal with these
reply

But the pilots love how they fly! I know a pilot who flew them and he said they fly really great and are very pleasant to fly.
