The new model number and FAA certification were needed to set the new passenger limit so that only onf FA is needed. Probably lighter MTOW compared to 700 might also reduce landing fees. (just speculating on landing fees.
Enjoy this comfy aircraft. Bombardier's exit from commercial aviation is nearly complete. When Mitsubishi buys the CRJ product line in the next few months, it will complete production of existing order but not take any new orders.
C-Series went to Airbus.
the DASH-8, and water bombers (as well as the Twin Otter) went to Viking Air/de-Haviland Canada (yes, the name was brought back as the new onwers got full rights to de Haviland which Bombardier had purchased.
And now the CRJ about to go to Mitsibishi, but the later will prefer seeling its own regional jet instead. A lot of CRJs are getting old now and will need to be replaced soon, so Mitsubishi will be pitching its own jet.

It's still a sardine can, game changer no way in hell. The 550 is simply a trick to beat labor agreements.
The CRJ550 has a lower MTOW than the CRJ700 in order to comply with scope clauses in US pilot contracts, and is expected to receive type certification in the second half of 2019. [60] The initial 50 aircraft will be sourced from existing CRJ700 airframes, rather than being newly constructed. [61] On 7 August 2019, United took delivery of the aircraft and began with a crew familiarization flight to Chicago-OHare International Airport (ORD.

I flew 4A on the CRJ-550 this week from ORD to CID. I chose it because of the privacy but I guess I should have watched your video first to warn me about the misaligned window. Other than that it was a pleasant ride. Due to the current conditions, the service amounted to a bottle of water and the self service bar was completely empty. Understandable these days but I look forward to the possibility of these aircraft taking the place of the abominable 200s on many regional routes.

Why the freak do so many US carriers remove windows for no reason? I never have this issue on Asian or European carriers. And these windows aren't even next to the engine so that ANCIENT safety excuse doesn't work. (They claim if the engine blows up, it'll protect the passenger from flying parts. WRONG. I've seen them fling parts through solid walls in the fuselage and it goes through like tissue paper)

They really need 2 Flight Attendants working this Aircraft. I know the FAR's only require 1 FA per 50 pax. Its Still a CRJ 700 an aircraft that needs 2 cabin crew to operate and perform safety duties, like an evacuation. However I admire United's unique innovation for this Express carrier. And also think about that 1 Flight Attendant working so much MORE with less help and same LOW wage!

This is just an experiment. United took 70 seat flying from go jets to bring on more 175 airframes. So instead of parking these aircraft someone had the great idea doing this. This will not be a permanent. Enjoy it while its available. Once again another embarrassment for United, you pay for first class and you have to serve yourself. Chips and pretzels pathetic.

MAX is miserable enough and UA already is farming near-transcon domestic flights to regionals. It may not be as miserable as a 200, but Id still rather connect twice between GSO-ORD than subject myself to almost any regional if I can help it. It wont be long until they run this format from the West Coast to Europe.

Boy am I glad I viewed this older video. I've been trying to catch up on those I've missed. The CRJ has been awful for years and years. So glad an airline did a re-design. I do wonder how long it will be before they tear out the amenities to reduce weight so as to save $1. 00 worth of fuel.

Question on the PQF and PQP status levels. From the silver to 1K status, do you have to reach those levels within a year or does it restart every year? And when and if you reach a level like 1K, does it last forever or do you have to re-spend that amount to get status back?

As someone who does almost all his flying on CRJ900, ERJ-145 and other regionals: this is a welcome upgrade. I loathe that I fly regionals constantly because the experience is always terrible, but that's what I get for having Charlotte as my closest hub.

Personally, i like the CRJ-200, it has its market (actually that of the Dash, and it does it well. The issue is having airlines make regional flights six states over. I flew to LAX, and was on the CRJ longer than i was on the 737. PA-TX is not regional.

I'm thinking about the sole FA in there! 3 cabin classes with just one FA? I can only imagine the amount of stress and that this lone soul will have to put up with. This is still a CRJ700 at the end of the day if unmasked, 2 FAs are a must.

I just flew in a crj 550 the apu didnt work and they didnt turn on one of the engines for an hour so we got nice and toasty.
And then of course they didnt get my bag on due to weight issues.
I was also delayed like 3 hours

I recently flew on an American Eagle E-Jet E175 and I was quite impressed with it, there was plenty of leg room in economy, wifi, wider seats, and plenty of headroom. Then on the way home, I flew on an ERJ-145, that was much worse.

Does the heat circulate well in these new aircraft? I'll be flying to Newark from Chattanooga, TN with a connection in Chicago O Hare. Wasn't satisfied at all with United's previous trip to Dulles. Also, is there wifi on board?

Rode on some small plane from Ford Airport in Grand Rapids, MI to Chicago O'Hare in 2015, probably a CRJ. It wasnt as bad as the 737-800W from O'Hare to Tampa after. The bigger plane had less leg room.

Its still too small. The DC-9/MD80/B717 should be the smallest airliner allowed. The 717 is the perfect airplane for regional airlines and they should never have stopped making it. Another Boeing blunder.

I have flown on this jet all over the Eastern US. My daughter went to college in the northeastern US. Not Fancy, but we always felt safe and that is all that I care about. And I have serious fear of flying

a 30 min flight on a 50 pax jet? it wouldn't even reach cruising altitude!
wouldn't a turboprop be a more reasonable ( not to mention cost effective ) plane? plenty of turboprop choice out there.

I've flown on the 50 passenger ERJ-145 aircraft numerous times & it is a good airplane. This CRJ-550 airplane seems like it will be a very popular aircraft with passengers for many years to come!

Why wont airlines use a different type of birds for shorter destination? Im from Hawaii and the main inter island carrier Hawaiian Airlines uses a Boeing 717.

I used to fly that exact airplane with ExpressJet airlines when I was a pilot for them. Before N504GJ it was N605QX, an ex-Horizon Air CRJ-700.

This isnt going to be consistent across the United fleet. Its only going to be for GoJet as United Express and itll only be on certain routes.
