Jeb after watching many of your videos my family and I decided to try the train to go to Orlando. We boarded the train in Kannapolis and settled in for the ride. We were so excited. My wife and I had a bedroom and our college age sons had a roomette. They didn't care they were excited about doing something new. As you have said, the staff was ready for us when we boarded. We couldn't have asked for better service. When we arrived in Raleigh the staff took our luggage and secured it. We had a couple of hours before we boarded our next train. The staff recommended great places to eat within walking distance from the station. After a delicious dinner we walked back to the station to get ready for the second part of our journey. We were in awe when the train came in! Much larger the the Carolina/Piedmont! We arrived mid morning in Orlando. We were thrilled to arrive 5 minutes from Universal Studios! In no time we were at the hoteL Awesome! This train trip took longer than driving, however, it was about 4 hours longer in all. The difference was that we could all sit back and relax and enjoy the experience. Plus we slept 8/9 hours of the trip. On the way back we had a few hiccups. The door between our room and the room next door did not want to lock. They eventually got it fixed and we all enjoyed a great laugh. Later on we found out that our shower in the room did not work. The attendant directed us to the larger more spacious shower down the hall. The boys enjoyed exploring the train and following the train tracker. Despite a few issues on our return trip, we would do it again. We will take your advice and bring our own pillows next time. We did have a difficult time trying to sleep. Did sleeping on a train get better for you? Recommendations? We are looking at doing another trip this fall. Look forward to hearing from you!

In 2016 I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. I was in minot and had to go to Michigan to meet up with my fiancee. I had 3rd degree burns from the radiation and could only afford a seat. In the middle of the night I was in so much pain and sick that I couldn't rest at all and was in tears. My coach attendant came and check on me when she saw me crying. I tried to upgrade my seat but the conductor said I would have to purchase a full price. While I was talking to the conductor one of the sleeper car attendants was listening and when the conductor left he grabbed my stuff and said to follow him. He took me back to one of the deluxe sleepers and gave me a couple of blankets and pillows and said to get some rest and he would bring me a snack if I was hungry and brought me breakfast in the morning. I have a chihuahua service dog and he made sure my baby had some water. The attendants were so gracious and made an unbearable trip bearable. I saw the sleeper car attendant a year later and was able to thank him again. I have a better way of saying the joke about minot. You say wynot minot. Lol

My most favorite trip was taking Amtrak from St. Cloud Minnesota to Whitefish Montana. In loading in St Cloud, the train was quite late and then the crew didnt seem to know that there were 5 or 6 sleeper car passengers with prearranged tickets that they didnt have a car for. we all got stuck waiting for a car to be brought to us so we could continue the trip. By now it was past 2 a. m! We were suppose to board at midnight or a little before. Needless to say there were a few people including the crew who were not happy! No other glitches after that though and I, like you, love riding the rails!

Nice train if you want a vacation on rails or to tour and see the country sides but otherwise, America needs highspeed bullet train technology. So far behind, the United States of America should of had this decades ago. When it comes to maglev super train technology, the United States of America is even farther behind. But if they could obtain it, you could board in New York city New York and reach las Angeles California in just under 7 hours. No need for beds. Get her done California! Highspeed bullet trains and maglev super train technology, the new american dream.

I just rode on the empire builder and back from fargo to seattle and fargo, the ride was amazing unfortunately didn't see the glacier sunset as our train was chugging at 40mph as the tracks were 100 degrees in montana and later that night a 65mph thunderstorm brought down the train to 20 mph 5. 5 hr delay going to seattle, on the way back no minimal to no delays this is the only way to seattle, so spetacular views I have never seen so many trees and mountains and the sunrise with the dense fog over the idaho panhandle national forest is just amazing!

Thanks for all the great work U have done and still are doing for us the audience to watch.
It is so nice to be away from real life sometimes, and truly whenever i cannot sleep I just watch Ur videos, so I won't allow my mind to keep me up thinking. Thank U.
The USA is such a Beautiful Country, I hope one day I can see it too, but at-least these days I can see it through Ur Beautiful videos, but also other countries.
Keep up the work U 2 are doing. It is not only Beautiful but also soothing for the mind

Great video! I rode the Empire Builder from Seattle to Sandpoint Idaho in 2006 and 2008 to visit my parents in Bonners Ferry Idaho, it was a 10 hour trip, didnt get a sleeper, but I really didnt need one, my train left Seattle at 4: 45 pm and arrived in Sandpoint at 2: 30 the next morning, really didnt see much because of darkness but I still enjoyed it, we had to wait in Spokane for the other train, usually took about 30 minutes but still good trip

I'm booked to do this from Chicago in October and I just discovered that all the scenic part in the Rockies, is at night. In that respect, I would say that West to East would be better. That will make my fourth LD train in the US after the Coast Starlight, the Lake Shore Limited and the California Zephyr. I can add the Acela to my trips but that isn't really a long distance train, more a commuter.

11: 28 I don't know that much about Amtrak so I don't really know about that. But I do know that Planes are not to get struck by lightning, small or big. They all can handle lightning more than trains, because they fly way high up in the sky, at about 30000 ft altitude, and they are very strong, and they move in the sky at a very fast speed! Over 400 mph!

4: 45 Why? You normally don't envy, do you?
I never envy the passengers in that plane. If I am flying in a small plane, and I see a big plane, then that is when I envy the passengers in the, rather big plane that they are having a good time. Like for example, if I am flying in a Boeing 737, and I see an Airbus A380, then I am envious!

Beautiful footage and great video! I enjoy riding the train! In September 2021, I rode the California Zephyr from Chicago to Denver. Then, in 2022, I rode the Lake Shore Limited from Toledo to Boston. The latter trip was on a dual train. We split from the Ethan Allen in Albany, NY. It went on to New York City. Both trips were awsome!

In the mid-1990s, my wife and I took the Empire Builder from our home in Chicago to Seattle. We also stopped at Glacier National Park but for only one day as I really knew nothing about it. If I did, we would have stayed there longer as the Park is AWESOME. to view all the different aspects of it! Also, the entire trip was 'great'/ JMS

It's fun to see those little orange plastic markers near the right-of-way when the train is stopped. That indicates buried fiber optic cables. That's where the internet goes! (it has long been convenient to pay railroads to bury them along the rail corridors rather than negotiating with a bazillion other entities.

Partly due to this video I opted to take the train from Portland Oregon to Chicago Illinois. The Columbia River gorge from Portland to Spokane should not be missed. The entire trip was highly enjoyable - thank you for giving me the information to allow me make an informed choice outside my comfort zone.

Have only very recently discovered my love of Railroad trips. Loving your videos. My suggestion for another of your Railroad Journeys, would be the Amtrak Coast Starlight. The only overnight trip I've been on riding a train. It was well worth it. Thank you for doing these videos.

Jeff I rode the Empire Builder Chicago to Whitefish and back in October 22. Lots of improvements with traditional dining, no masks, Magnolia Lounge much improved. Service & friendless of Amtral staff VERY good plus all food we enjoyed. Maybe a new video would be great.

18: 34 Is it better to travel from east or west? Pros: If you travel from Chicago you get to use the Amtrak Metropolitan Lounge (if you have a room. If you travel from the west you supposedly get 1 more meal because of time zone changes.

As someone who lives in the east coast its not even close. Id much rather go east to west as theres not much to see out east compared to out west. So the build up as you get further and further west the better the trip gets lol

22: 17 But in a plane, you can probably enjoy the views, because while the planes move a lot faster at 500 mph, the ground makes it look like it moves a lot slower, and you can enjoy the views with the help of that.

My friend and I rode our bicycles across Montana in 1982, through the very same towns you mention. We rode along highway 2 and witnessed several trains along the way. Montana is a gorgeous state.

AMTRAK is a rail version of smelly Greyhound Bus brought to you by our US Government. It is over priced and the sleeper cabins are cramped and we get to enjoy taking a shower in the toilet stall.

6: 27 What are you talking about? I do expect that each shower and toilet are attached to each bedroom. Plus, on a first class flight in some airlines, I do yet expect the same things.

I love train travel, and really liked your NY to Miami trip, but I just can't bear to watch any travel vids from that nasty time. Sorry. I just want to forget that time.

Amtrak (Like many other business) use the pandemic to go cheap on things. The food they give you for a a crime and the tickets are way too much money for what you get.

Billy Mitchel huh, my 107-year-old dad, who was Army-AirCorps, just might differ with that thought. Before that, he was in charge of a CCC camp in Arizona.

When I was 18 in 1979, I worked building these at the Pullman Standard Corp in Hammond, Indiana. My job was a railcar fitter. My favorite job of all I had.
