Is it safe to fly? It's 2020, everything has changed? Is it safe to fly United in 2020? Flying is different now. No doubt about it. In this video about a flight I took in July 2020 with United Airlines, Ill share some of whats changed. This video features the newest addition to the United Airlines fleet: The CRJ-550 on a route from my home airport Piedmont Triad International (GSO) to Chicagos OHare International (ORD. This was my first flight in the air in 130 days, so the excitement was palpable. I was impressed with how clean this United Airlines CRJ-550 was. The flight, which took 90 minutes was one of my most memorable because of just how great the experience was. Although service was limited, the flight was still fantastic. Watch this video to get a complete sense of what its like flying United Airlines in 2020. My first United CRJ-550 Video

I flew Sun Country (for the first time) from DFW to Vegas July 17-July 19. At 6 foot 2 and 250 lbs, and my dad who is 6 foot 6 and a bit heavier, we opted to pay for exit row seats as they have 39 inches of legroom. We also payed for the aisle and the window seat. I was disappointed to find that our flight to vegas was about 95% full and our flight back to dallas was still about 90% full. Not much social distancing at all on the flight. Masks were required, and flight attendants did as good of a job as possible of keeping customers masks on. Sun Country flies out of DFW terminal D, the international terminal. It was DEAD. It felt very strange to be in such an empty airport even though it had recently become the worlds busiest. The plane seemed about as clean as a normal flight, but airports were definitely cleaner. Also, there was no food and beverage service on this 2 hour 45 minute flight, except for a mini water bottle upon request.

it's all statistics. if it's business and a must, then i guess no choice. I would put off leisure travel until there is a better cure or a working vaccine to a degree. I don't discourage travel but just be warned of the possible risk. if your bet ends up well, the prize is one decent/good vacation per bet. if your bet end up bad the worst possible scenario is you just lost decades(# depends on your age and health condition) worth of future trips.

Great to see another video by you Jeb! I actually took my first flight back about a month ago on Southwest Airlines. Flew from Nashville, TN to Fort Lauderdale, FL. Even in the midst of the pandemic, it was so nice to be back in the air. 3 flights total and each flight was either 70% or 80% full. I was scared there would only be 10 people on the flight. So I was thrilled to see it picking back up.

Jeb, you sure know a lot about planes. I'm not a big fan of flying but maybe after I watch your videos I'll get more enthusiastic. The main thing I worry about is the air conditioning system. A physician said he thinks air systems everywhere are the culprit in spreading the disease. Everyone has a different theory. Glad you enjoyed yourself.

Nice that you got out and did some air travel. You probably know that your flight was not on united but united express. That means that those are not united employees but with a different company like go jet. I was on with express jet which is now shut down. All of my seniority and pay scale gone with nothing to return to.

Why don't you show the person that won the UNITED lottery and was draged out of the plane? I bet your advice to read the rules are very important, but don't matter to THE UNITED lottery. Also I am sure you like to fly. for promoting a company like that. Keep the fat check and united can keep their seat.

Thanks Jeb, I think flying today is safer than ever, terminals and planes are fully disinfected daily. My 74-year old father just flew Transatlantic not long ago and he is fine. I would not hesitate to get onboard with a well known airline like Air Canada, Lufthansa, Delta, Qatar or KLM. Stay safe

Is it safe to fly now? I'd say mostly safe.
Is it safe to fly United? For my part, I will NEVER set foot on another United plane for any reason after the way their gate agents treated my wife the last time any of us were on United. Some things are just not forgivable.

NO! It IS NOT SAFE! Just took a UNITED flight from New Orleans to Denver. United packed the plane completely full and was very nasty to anyone who called them out on it. Reckless endangerment at the very least. UNITED AIRLINES WILL RISK YOUR LIFE FOR PROFIT! Shameful.

Jeb, it was good to see you using a Piedmont Airlines coffee cup. I worked in the industry for 32 years. The first three was with Piedmont, that i still have fond memories of. I was based in Greensboro where you traveled from and where I still lived. Thanks for your postings.

This was our first trip in 130 days and it felt GREAT! We carefully researched the rules and expectations placed on us by Piedmont Triad International Airport, United Airlines, and Chicago O'Hare. I encourage you to do the same if you choose to travel. Thanks for watching!

I feel safe in the airports but not on the planes. Especially domestically in the US. The pandemic is not under control here and so many people ignore the rules and either fly infected or without masks or just don't care about their fellow Americans.

If I had somewhere to go, I would for sure fly. Not worried to fly, just nowhere to go at the moment. In fact, with the increased cleaning, I feel it might be safer health-wise to fly now. I flew AA towards mid-March and those planes were SPOTLESS!

I am scheduled to fly United in two weeks to see my son from west palm beach to Newark. Should I be skeptical and afraid? We all are affected by this pandemic and we miss our families.
reply

Hey Jeb! Glad to see your flying again. Makes me feel better about my trip on delta this weekend from FLL to LAS. If you dont mind me asking, what kind of mask were you wearing?
reply

How can you find out how old the plane you're on is or how many flights the plane has already flown? And hell yeah I'd get on a plane now. Especially my favorite Southwest!
reply

From one of those professionals in the airline industry, thank you. We are all doing our best to make every trip as safe as possible and still provide amazing service.

I flew during the pandemic from West Virginia to Charlotte then to Florida on American and I was scared because I always fly on delta but I had a great time
reply

I am willing to fly now. Have 6 flights booked MDT-DTW-MSP-FCA. However, sticking with Delta considering their blocking of seats and max 60% capacity, in economy.

I have to fly from Lubbock to to Denver to Portland on United then Alaska airlines from Redmond oregon to Lax then to Austin to then to San Angelo tx

Flew on United in August and felt very safe. Social distancing was observed in the cabin and it smelled clean. I felt safer flying than shopping.

It was my first time flying and I threw up about 6 times. Couldn't handle the motion sickness. Porbably cause I dind't eat or sleep beforehand.
reply

I'm not sure if its a good idea to post a video like this because it could encourage people to travel at a time that we need to stay home.
reply

Since there has been such an increase is the cleaning of airports and airplanes, I would definitely be comfortable! Also, I live in Chicago!
reply

I think that flying is super safe but it is going internationally and risking that borders may shut or any other restrictions change
reply

I wouldn't mine being on a plane since the airports are so empty and if I'm the only one on the flight I'll get the whole plane to myself
reply

I miss flying. My trip to Maui was canceled. I was so excited since I was going with my best friend. Also I love flying on airplanes.
reply

Was never not afraid. But, kind of lame the quality of flying has gone down. First class domestic doesn't even look first class.
reply

Can you fly to SNA? You have to put ALL flight information like estimated arrival time, airline, plane, and flight number
reply

Im flying today out of Logan International I think I should be just fine as long as you wet your mask and wash your hands
