Horizon Air is Alaska Airlines Regional Partner. In this video, Ill explore Alaska Airlines newest lounge. A 15, 800 square foot palace to traveling pleasure located in the North Satellite. Its got everything a frequent traveler may desire. See it for yourself, but trust me when I sayit may be North Americas best airline lounge! From there, youll see my experience onboard a Horizon Air Dash 8, which is also known as a Bombardier Q400. Horizon Airs Q400 is a spectacular regional airplane thats perfect for the missions this Seattle-based carrier requires. Youll see the Horizon Air Q400 seats, the Horizon Air service, and the Horizon Air Food. But, best of all, youll see some of the best views the United States has to offer. As I am a long, long time Alaskan, I have flown with good old Alaska Airlines countless times. I am never excited about the seats in economy class. People are just too squashed together. First class isn't all that bad, but definitely not on par with a first class ticket on a long flight. I remember once in the 1970's on a midnight flight from Seattle to Juneau, I was the only passenger! Played cards with two of the attendants, and one game of cribbage with the pilot! I bet those days are gone! Thanks for your videos Jeb, it lets me see how the rest of the world lives and flies. Thanks again, retired old ron.

Up until my airport Adelaide, hint hint Jeb got jet bridges It was either train bus or ramp. We still have come turboprops here, and Qantaslink uses the Dash 8, Bombardier Q400 and Rex Express use the SAAB 340B. I have been on the SAAB 340 and when getting on that, and expect the Dash 8 is the same only a few steps in a pull up well, I prefer walking up those to the old staircases getting up into Jets as it plays upon my knees. and they were always rickety, last time I had to use a set of stairs they are still using them as needed in Melbourne.

I think the alaska/horizon combo makes up the best airline in the US easily, and stacks up against carriers internationally as well in terms of service and quality. I have an interview to join the pilot development program for horizon coming up, and it has the most positive reputation I have heard of out of American regionals! the pay raise is sounding amazing, and the livery is easily the best in the country as far as I am concerned. great video, cant wait to check out the lounge!

I havent flown since I returned from my work trip a year ago yesterday. Seems strange. Ive mostly stuck with United (after they took over Continental) as my main airline, with Delta as a second. I love Alaska and would fly with them more if they were at the places I need to go for workand when I have to go to Montana (from my home hub of PDX) i definitely go Alaska/Horizon. It was nice to see your review of the new lounge. Thanks for the great review.

Alaska/Horizon are my go to Transborder flight from Edmonton to SeaTac. We have other options but the soft product is above the rest. I also use Alaska for all my US continental flights because of Mileage Plan and available Mileage Plan Canadian credit cards. For the record I am not a fan of the Q400 they are just too cramped for a 2 hour flight from Edmonton to Seattle. The E jet used to run this segment prepandemic and was my preference.

As a frequent visitor to Alaska I'm always connecting in SeaTac. Its a lovely airport, a lot more subdued than other airports where you would typically make a connection. Also I love when I get to fly turboprops. Haven't flown once since Porter in 2019, but thats gonna change early next year as I'll get to fly a Finnair ATR for a connection.

Yeah. Its supposed to be a seamless experience between main line and regional. But unlike every other airline with regional service. There is a very blurred line between the two. Horizon is a wholly owned by Alaska air group. Just like Alaska airlines is. Theres basically not a difference other than how the employees are compensated

I loved this. As a Seattle area resident, sometimes we don't stop to take in the beauty often enough. We really are lucky to live in this part of the world.
Oh, and the weather is almost always beautiful from mid June or early July through late September. Come in the other months and it'll usually be a different story.

Love Alaska. The issue is limited connections. For a while, their last flight from SEA to SMF left at like 7. With the majority of their flight from the Midwest coming In after that you were suck. I noticed they started the 9: 30 SEA-SMF flight again, so hopefully that sticks and alleviates the connection issue.

Being tall I am not a huge fan of the Q400; it's bearable for short hops. Personally I am delighted that Alaska/Horizon is moving to the Enbraers. But, Alaska is always my first choice for air travel if they fly to where I'm headed. Living in the NW, they pretty much do. And yeah, that lounge is awesome.

Team Ramp here! But HOLY HECK, that interior is the same Horizon Air interior when they used to fly on their own. Alaska used to own them but them them do what they want before 2011, and that interior is the same color they used to have when they used the maroon sunset logo on the tail.

I know you tend to talk more about the travel experiences you have and the aircraft you enjoy flying on, but Id be curious to see a video with your thoughts about the SEA-TAC Horizon Air Q400 Dash 8 theft and crash by a ground service agent named Richard Russel incident from 2018.

You're lucky to have a bright sunny day in Seattle to board outdoors. In Seattle it might more likely be rainy or raining down forest-fire ash. And gate-checking luggage is nice but it does mean lugging it thru the TSA checkpoint, which can be troublesome.

The Q400 is certainly an iconic plane here in the Pacific Northwest. The flight path between PSC and SEA goes over my neighborhood and I could always identify a Q400 by its distinctive sound. Horizon is retiring them this year and replacing them with Embraer E-175's.

If you want an idea for a Horizon flight, do Seattle to Yakima. Geographically, it only just the other side of the mountains. However, because its so close, you dont get much above 15, 000, meaning the views of the Cascades are absolutely incredible.

Yesterday was my first time flying ever since late 2019 on a United CRJ 550 & a 737-800. The 737 was my main flight to Florida ORD-RSW. I miss flying so much can't wait to go back home to. Considering that im flying home before spring break ends.

As someone who started out on the Horizon ramp in SEA, I am thrilled to watch this trip report and see Horizon get some respect (just echoing nainoa) down below: ) The mighty Q400 is definitely my favorite regional but I am biased lol.

I was at the Seattle airport about a year ago and was pretty impressed. I think at the time that wacky tall pedestrian bridge to the int'l arrivals wasn't even open yet. That would be interesting to see the inside of.

It's nice that you discussed the mechanism of a turbo-prop engine (being not much different from a typical jet engine. We all know people worry that propeller planes are like 1940's piston engines, and they're not!

Its remarkable that you take countless hard working hours to work on these videos, solely for the purpose of entertaining, and informing a set of viewers that you dont even know personally. Keep up the amazing work Jeb!

I'm a proud Seattleite, and I'm glad you decided to visit our newest Alaska Lounge!
Also no, the rain isn't a lie, it usually rains from October-March nonstop. You're lucky you got in when the weather is so good: )

As an Alaska 75k, I'm glad you got to escape Delta land and see how great Alaska is! I even choose longer connections in Seattle just so I can sit in the N Lounge with some great complimentary craft beer.

I flew Seattle to Boise for the Potato Bowl and loved the flight experience. Alaska air is the best.
Never impressed with SeaTac. Rude employees and dirty restroom.
Boise has a nice airport.

I also prefer to gate check my roller bag on a regional flight for the same reason, then all I have to worry about is my backpack where I keep all my things Im going to want access to during the flight.
reply

I've regularly flown from Seattle to Pullman (south of Spokane) on the Q400. Yes it is a very beautiful flight. Also, it is overcast a lot more than it is sunny in Seattle but it is nice in the summer.

Flying Alaska for my first time from msp-sea and horizon for my first time and my first turboprop from sea-hln. Really excited and I get into the lounge thanks to my priority pass!

Im flying up there in the beginning of April, and Im going to be travelling on First Class back from Seattle, so this a preview for me! i can barely hold my excitement.
reply

Come north to Alaska. Anchorage is a beautiful airport and Alaska and its partners are almost all we fly. Although our lounge is much smaller. But the view is better.
