With its unmatched scenery, Amtraks California Zephyr should top not just your train trip list, but your entire travel bucket list. In this video, well travel from Chicago to San Francisco onboard Amtraks California Zephyr in a luxurious Bedroom, the ultimate Amtrak Train accommodation. Well also explore the California Zephyr Roomette to see how big that train accommodation really is! And, for the first time ever, Ill even show you the shower on the California Zephyr. Youll see the sights, the food, and gain insight into what its like to travel on Amtraks most scenic train: The California Zephyr. Amtraks California Zephyr train was named for the original train operated jointly by the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad; the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad; and the Western Pacific Railroad. It was inaugurated March 19, 1949. From its earliest days, the marketing and advertising for the California Zephyr train route has focused on the spectacular views along the way. And, in this video, you will see why! This video started with five and a half hours of raw California Zephyr footage, distilled down to the best. That was a tough task because nearly every mile of the California Zephyrs 2, 438 mile journey was spectacular

Took that one with my granddaughters- very nice scenery- ( I have taken Southwest Chief and Empire builder too. I love trains, so some issues don't bother me, but for some it can be a problem. In typical Amtrak style, we waited 4 hours at the terminal in Oakland for the late train. Because of the delay, we had missed the lunch service which was part of the ticket and we had to purchase snacks- a few passengers got a bit loud about this. The journey was fine, but when we reached the midwest, there was a heatwave and the tracks had expanded and buckled, so we had to go a long distance at a snails pace. Due to the slow going we went through an extra meal cycle, and when it was time for the last dinner meal they were out of food and were serving us anything they could round up. Again, some passengers got pretty heated over this. We arrived in Chicago 12 hours late.

Last year, I visited the US for the first time.
I'm from the Netherlands myself, but the US has always interested me because of how massive it is.
I've watched some videos about this specific train now and its definitely near the top of my list of things to do in the US.
somehow it just feels crazy to me that you can travel by train for 51 hours in one direction and still stay in the same country.
It also just reminds me of traveling through a movie set or something, you see so many people, landmarks, towns, states etc.
and its really cool to think that every single thing has its own stories and lives.

Just took the ride from Denver to Emeryville. Some recommendations. 1)Get a bedroom and avoid the roomette. It's just too small. 2)Bring food from your favorite deli (assuming you have access to one. Suffice to say, the airlines are much better at serving reheated food than Amtrak. 3)Consider limiting your ride to the state of Colorado. To be honest, the beautiful scenery becomes numbing after a while. Perhaps I would have felt better about it if we had a bigger room. 4)Last, the train is often late (over two hours in our case, so, dont plan on anything based on your arrival time. Enjoy!

I have been on the Zephyr from Denver to Glenwood Springs. Gore Canyon was beautiful and l loved it. I am considering taking it from my home town Denver to San Francisco and I appreciate that you uploaded this so much. I always wanted to do this trip after seeing the Silver Streak movie as a child. I'm originally from the UK where nobody can go more than 800 miles without falling in the sea! Have taken the Eurostar but this is so much better.

Tipping On A Train Trip - I've only been on short trips like between Toronto & Ottawa or Toronto & Niagara Falls & we've always had multiple conductors & servers that switched out on a regular basis to get back to their originating point(some are only part time soo! they aren't there for the whole trip & if you don't tip them when they serve you, you might not get another chance

No bad but sometimes it may get a little boring but the scenery was absolutely amazing.
You may feel as if there's less people of colored sub concisely and may get some deer stare but overall a good experience.
This is my honest review and I don't mean to offend anyone.

Even the food is not as good as the train in Canada, everything on that train is put this train to shame. I dont think I would want to catch this train but the one in Canada that was beautiful the food just everything I would ride that train as far as I could enjoy your ride.

I traveled 3 time from Chicago to SF, 1 time from SF to Chicago. I enjoyed the west trips better than the east trip. I think the scenery you see going west is better. I have also traveled the Empire Builder 3 times; once to Seattle and twice to Portland. I love the train.

Hope they gave you a refund for that 10 min of darkness. I'm looking at a picture in the book Love of Trains at the early '70s version of the Zephyr- gold & silver streamline locomotives & stainless cars. Air shot of train in Gore Canyon. Spectacular!

Tipping: tip at the beginning and at the end. The beginning lets the attendant know you tip well. The end is lagniappe if the attendant is good and this tip is based on performance. I am a great tipper.

It's a shame that the US gave away the ownership of the rail lines that we paid for! Otherwise we could have had a train service as nice as Europe.

Nice series of videos. Looking to do a trip soon.
Our biggest question. Would a person 6'9 be comfortable in a sleeper?
