I flew a couple months ago from Oahu to the mainland and back. First of all I'm glad I brought my own food to eat because that roll burrito or whatever that was that they served us was hot as hell like it just came out of a volcano. I had to wait about 20 minutes for it to cool off and I tried to eat it but I couldn't it was not good. Same thing they served us on the flight back. After it cooled off biting into it was like biting on a dogs chew toy real rubbery. I didn't fly first class I can't afford it but the food that's the only thing that I didn't like on the flight. Everything else was alright. I've flown several times and the food was alright but not this time. I hope the food is better on my next flight that's in a couple weeks but I'm going to stop somewhere to take on the plane with me just in case.

We do Alaska's First Class for our trips to Hawaii. We get double the air miles, so it help with keeping club status and for keeping the mileage points topped off. I don't really think Alaska's First Class is anything to write home about, neither is their lounges. There is no lounge in Maui and certainly nothing in Kona. We do the red eye home so we can get a full last day in at the beach. Alaska's First Class seats kinda suck and their flight attendants are nowhere to be found during that flight. Alaska has a long way to go to have a great First Class. Those seats you showed that Hawaiian has that lay flat would be so awesome and well worth flying with them.

I am late to this post, but if any people have a right to distrust Westerners (Haole) they are are native Hawaiians. Not that anyone would subject the Hawaiian people unnecessarily to this pandemic, but it is in their history that others have done that before (look it up before you criticize, - focus on measles. Even so Hawaii is an international destination and one of such beauty that regardless of the hassles of testing, or travel, you simply must comply before going there. Sorry, I was involved with the Islands for 26 years total, and I learned a great deal about the people, and their remarkable history. So I love them regardless.

You have to fly through the flight pattern of aircraft flying into LAX and they fly in circles as well so you got the opposite feel of an aircraft landing while you are leaving. I guess you don't notice it as much as when you leave LaGuardia flying north when your destination is in Charleston, SC. If you haven't watched the Miracle on the Hudson then have you most likely would not recognize you were going in the wrong direction in the first place. The same thing goes for every major airport, with only one exception, that of the President of the United States coming and going. He/She gets the direct route.

Great job. Ive been going to Hawaii on business since the 80s, and I lived there in the 70s. Over the last 50 years, I probably flew every airline that serviced Hawaii from the US mainland. In the 1980s and 90s I did almost all of my flying there on Delta (back in the L-1011 days. No more. Hawaiian is the ONLY airline I use to Hawaii. They put everyone else to shame, in my opinion. Their A-330 service out of LAX is my favorite. Ill be using them this November when my wife and I go there for our 33rd. anniversary.

Another reason may be because due to the fact youre flying over the pacific, theres no radar coverage which means separation between aircraft needs to be increased so most likely air traffic control was probably staging you in on the airway youre taking across the Pacific. Again I hope this helps and really enjoy your videos. If you have any other aviation related questions reach out to me. Im about to start my United first officer training and would love to See you in the skies on a United flight soon!

Nice one jeb this is one airline I want to fly on and do the BOS to HNL route when they reinstate it but this vlog confirms that obviously they r worth flying on and an airline I wanna take my neice on so I thank you for reinforcing that Hawaiian is worth the money. Thanks for this vlog and keep it up. Plus if on your next aviation vlog you could give my neice Charlotte Gandhi a shout out it would be cool
Thanks in advance

My parents have NEVER been to Hawaii and their 50th anniversary is coming up in August. I hope things get better by then and rules loosen. Is Hawaiian even flying to Kauai now (feb 2021) nonstop from Oakland on the A321? Maybe I should send them to Maui first class, this looks amazing. And perhaps by then most people will have been vaccinated as well.

I flew a Hawaiian Airlines A-330 from San Diego to Honolulu, the Customer Service was outstanding. For some reason we flew over Mexico for a while. The Lady sitting next to me was a vegetarian so I ended up with 2 entrees. I plan on flying from Anchorage to Honolulu this September on Alaska Airlines. That should be a interesting flight.

One of two things could be possible for the northerly routing towards the Bay Area. Restricted military warning areas are active off the LA coast blocking routing or enroute weather related issues, ie. thunderstorms, severe turbulence or prevailing winds.

You seem concerned that you only managed to crack your window blind for a short while. Why? It's a daytime flight. It's daylight outside. If they want a dark cabin, take a night flight. Let them close their blind. Me, I'm looking outside. It's the best IFE!

Don't fly out of LAX!
Their terminal is significantly worse than flying out of SMF (Sacramento)
Flying out of Sacramento has a shorter flight time, less traffic, and probably a cheaper ticket.
Both airports have direct flights to Maui

Had to fly a similar flight route out to Hawaii. It was due to an extremely highspeed headwind and the plane would need to fly north and around to save on fuel. We went as far north as Oakland before heading out over the ocean.

Hi Jeb. Great to see you! I have heard that Hawaiian Airlines is awesome. Thank you for letting us know the guidelines for traveling to HI. My friends daughter had to quarantine for 10 days. it took all of her vacation. :-(

I flew Hawaiians A321 yesterday from HNL to SJC and it was the smoothest flight I ever had and the engine noise was music to my ears. The seats were comfy. Flight wasnt full so I had the whole row to myself. Love it!

Odd route was because of wind pattern coming out of east (offshore wind) instead of the west (onshore wind) which is way more prevalent. Causes planes to take off eastbound and finally circle back to Pacific.

Im more interested in that Patek you have on your wrist sir! ;) As always, fantastic review. I was able to experience this product pre pandemic and was well worth it. Hawaiian is one of my favorite airlines.

PP gets you access to Alaskas lounge, but bit of a walk at lax and the Plumeria lounge is light years better then Hawaiians at HIA. When did the NEO start flying into a lax? Thought it was Long Beach only
reply

Jeb, the route for your flight from LAX to Hawaii is assigned by Air Traffic Control for sequencing and spacing purposes. Some days are better than others for air traffic! Thanks for the video.

Ive been on the a321neo from SJC-HNL And From HNL-OGG on the Boeing 717. It was the best flight experience Ive ever been on. I like the Orange with purple mood lighting on the a321neo

Did you check FR24? They store all info of all flights for gold members for one year. Great vlog as always. Btw you start with I, and the next paragraf. We. Lol! We all have a boss right.

6 hours is good but 7 1/2 days on a US Navy ships is better nothing but water and water did i mention water for 7 days. the views from the ship is good love seeing the Water.

Jeb, a pilot here. Just thought I would mention, the strange routing was almost certainly due to ATC requirements due to inbounds and other outbounds of the LA area.
reply

Hey Jeb, are you going to try out the new Silver Airlines service from GSP to 3 Florida cities? I would love to see what you think of Silver. Stay Safe out There!

Awesome video! 7: 00 I remember on my flight to Hawaii my seat was facing the sun. I opened the window a little bit and was completely blind Ed lol

going on same plane to Maui, would you recommend 1st row or last row for 1st class. i am 6'2 and looks like 1st roe has a little more legroom
reply

US carriers must really have been going downhill recently if you are so impressed by a free hot sandwich in economy on a 6 hour flight. :-)
reply

Seems like a silly question to ask, but is the 4 th row a better choice compared to row 1 on this aircraft in first class? Thank you.
reply

Best guess for the circuitous route is too much fuel on boarding. or they thought you might like some sightseeing on the way
