I don't mind delays, as long as the airline tries to keep somewhat with the schedule. My problem is when you get a two or three hour delay on top of a planned two hour connection.
I flew with Air Canada recently, and a regional flight (Jazz) as well as their leisure branded (Rouge) flight exemplified what should not be happening.
On the Jazz flight which has a total gate to gate time when on time of twenty minutes (YVR-YCD) the total delay was two and a half hours. It started with a delay to get the plane on the reverse route back to YVR which took fifty minutes. Then, they couldn't load the plane right and had problems with the manifest which took thirty minutes to figure out who they mistakenly boarded. Then a mechanical issue caused another forty minute delay. Finally we made it, hours later than scheduled.
The Rouge flight was delayed for three hours for security issues. That is the only thing Air Canada would say. I don't want an airline continually delaying a flight for security issues because it makes me feel unsafe on their plane. In reality the reasons for the delays was a late arriving aircraft, and servicing the aircraft. Air Canada apparently has no problem lying to customers about delays, and would therefore have no problem lying to them about other things.
Overall, the industry (but specifically Air Canada) had indications that this summer would be a heavy travel season and did nothing it seems to prepare. I'm dissapointed.

I've gotten spoiled watching the videos of first class on airlines like Emirates, Air France, and other Asian and European airlines where flying First Class is a luxurious experience. Then we come to American companies like American, Delta, and United, and their First Class generally falls way short of the foreign carriers, often not even coming close to their Business Class service. The US airlines look like the bean counters had carte blanche control over interior decor. There was a time when airlines like Pan Am and TWA were known for their luxurious First Class experience, but those days appear long gone. I tilt my hat to you, Jeb, for being more diplomatic that I am. I worked for airlines back in the 80s and 90s and do give the flight crews great respect. Day after day, they manage to work the front lines and work hard with a smile on their face and concern for their passengers, even on those days where passengers are irate because of late departures, delays, and even cancelled flights. The airlines don't like to have those problems or delay flights as it costs them money and passenger good will, but it's better to delay a flight than to end up with passengers spread across the landscape.

At least you made it. We were going to Brittany and Normandy after a stop in Stuttgart to see family. Our incoming British Airways had a weather diversion to BOS. They lied to everyone in the BA lounge about whether the flight was going to be cancelled (literally from 8pm until midnight. At midnight they cancelled the trip and told everyone they had absolutely zero information on when - or whether - everyone would be rescheduled. We were told to wait for emails or texts. Long story short? BA couldn't get us to Stuttgart until 7 days later (this was an AA code share and AA emphatically said they could NOT use any other carrier than BA. At that rate, with the rental car reservation gone and the other hotel reservations toast, we cancelled the trip.

6: 02 I was supposed to fly Air Canada from YYZ to BOS in June 2022, but my flight that afternoon was canceled, and then I rebooked a flight that departs at 8 pm on the United App. But guess what, it was a total traffic jam, a lot of flights at YYZ were canceled or delayed for a very long time, and there was somebody broadcasting live news about this massive air travel disaster at YYZ. I board my flight at about 8 pm, and we were taxiing around the runway due to flight traffic, and we departed at 10 pm E. T, which was supposed to be the estimated arrival time, but luckily, the flight was only about an hour long, we landed at BOS at 11pm the same day.

Great video Jeb and you have as others have commented shown the impact of delays for both sides. I frequently used Continental and later United on their service between Glasgow Scotland and Newark which was a great service. Friendly, professional crews often flew the route for years and you got to know them and the service was exceptional I wish they would bring it back. It was almost like a trip down memory lane seeing those gates at Newark and of course the Continental 757! Great work as always and to say I am hooked to your videos is an understatement.

i have to say, im truly impressed and grateful for your understanding and compassion with the delays and other related issues. i see so many news articles about how horrible and unacceptable the current delays, baggage issues etc are and i cant help but feel disappointed at how little compassion and understanding these news outlets have for the immense overload and struggle faced by airline and airport staff currently. your good attitude, compassion and understanding is so refreshing. thank you jeb

about 3 weeks ago i went on a philippine airlines flight from manila to jfk, and the flight landed on time, but we waited on the tarmac for over an hour, and my best guess was that terminal 1 (the terminal we were supposed to arrive in) was either closed for the night or there wasnt enough staff (latter guess was probably correct. and because of that we deboarded at terminal 4, and my bags didnt show up because they were at terminal 1, so i had to take the air train to terminal 1 to get my bags

I chuckled at your water sloshing around because of the turbulence. One time I was flying a mission on a P-3 over the Pacific and the plane dropped like a rock. The coffee in my shipmate's mug came out and was hanging in the air like a long ribbon. He valiantly tried to position his mug under the 2 foot or so long stream, but to no avail. When we bottomed out from our descent, the coffee went flying everywhere. Ah, good times!

I just dont get it. United is terrible! My Family has never once had a good or on time experience with them. Delays, diversions, cancellations. Even on this trip, youre giving them way too much credit for tryin. Youre flying on an ancient airplane with an obsolete product, and continuing delays. Thats completely unacceptable! I dont care about staffing or how hard people are working, they just need to deliver.

I had the first flight of the day from TCI to DC. The flight was coming from DC. It got delayed around 9a to 2: 05 (from 12p departure) and then by 10a, canceled. And it was the only flight for the day on the airline. They pulled the plane for mechanical issues, the agents on the phone (and maybe at the gate) told people it was due to weather, but we all received texts and emails saying mechanical.

I don't know if you'd count this as a delay but our westjet flight for toronto got cancelled which screwed our toronto to frankfurt, frankfurt to bucharest, and bucharest to cluj flights. Instead of a 19 hour flight, it was a 30 hour flight with whole new destinations such as calgary to seattle, seattle to london heathrow, london heathrow to paris, paris to bucharest. A heck of a flight

Flying in Australia - was delayed 75 minutes due to the plane having engineering issues earlier in the day. Was supposed to land at the destination at 10pm - eventually landed at 11: 05pm
Staffing problems, looks like, is happening worldwide
Just lucky I had a business class fare with Virgin Australia so I spent the delay drinking beer in the business lounge at Brisbane Airport

I flew from Montreal to Quebec City this fall. Going, I flew Air Transat on the A321neoLR and goin back to Montreal, I flew on Provincial Airlines' DHC-8-400. Both times, I was delayed. Going to Quebec City was because of one of the runways at YUL being resurfaced. Coming back was because of a combination of the runway and bad weather

This flight deserves bonus points for being part of Uniteds route network at all. We just took the flight a week after you did. We had similar delays. But it was so nice getting off at our final destination and gathering our bags (that all made it) vs worrying about tight connections and lost bags in Amsterdam or Stockholm, etc.

The Worst Ive ever dealt with in terms of delays was a flight from Phoenix to Dallas. We had a 5 hour layover in Dallas before going to Madrid which turned into a -45 minute layover. Luckily that plane was also delayed but we just barely made it. A 6 hour delay in Phoenix! 6 hours!

United may own Terminal C and the maintainence hangars, but they do not own the taxiways and runway between TC amd the hangars. EWR has the final say on when the 757 can cross the taxiways to get from the hangar to TC, therefore ATC deserves the blame on this one.

One time we took a southwest 737-800 to Las Vegas. And we were supposed to leave at 7: 00pm but a huge delay then we had to switch gates but thankfully it was next to us. Then we got on at 12: 45AM. At the hotel I went to bed at 2: 00 and we also tookoff at 1: 00

Hi Jeb,
I too love the 757. In my opinion, a transatlantic flight is no problem fliying United's older style BusinessFirst configuration. Seats are still very comfortable and attention is definitely more personalized.

Delays are quite common in Europe these days. My last 4 flights (2 this year & 2 in 2019) have been delayed over an hour. Admittedly it was with easyJet but its common for 1 and 2hr delays in europe

if you can't handle that spiced cauliflower. I think the Korean air first class FA that denied your ramen request actually did you right. That cauliflower dish doesn't seem like it would be spicy for me.

It's too bad United discontinued Oslo a few years ago.
I travel with my dog and Oslo Gardermoen is the only Norwegian airport with the required veterinarian inspector.

United is still a joke of an airline, same with American. As incompetent and as stingy as they come. Only surpassed by the deeply discounted carriers.
