I once had a 45 minute connection in ATL, flying from Birmingham, AL to Seattle, WA. I wasn't concerned because I was flying in and out of the C gates. Then we entered a holding pattern and I got nervous. We arrived to our C gate about 20 minutes late, I was seated in the back of the plane so it took a long time to get off, and I discover that my connecting flight is at T2 or T3. Just as I am approaching the gate, they start closing the door. I call out, Hold the door, they look and close the door anyways then tell me that I didn't make it in time. I was rebooked on a later flight, and very anxious when I heard that flights were fully booked for the next three days!
When I was waiting for a seat on that connecting flight, they finally called us up and one gate agent asked the other what happens if someone with a ticket shows up. The other said, Let's get the door closed before that happens. So now I know that Delta staff intentionally shut the door and prevented me from making my flight in order to not convenience another standby passenger. I haven't been much of a fan of Delta since then.

I've missed flights before just because my flight was way late. Never had an issue getting on the next flight even with the rock bottom non-refundable non-changeable flights even when the booking was done on a separate ticket. It's helpful to choose the airline with the most frequent trips just in case you miss a particular connecting flight.
One time my flight was late and the connecting flight was on the same airline. The connecting plane left the gate but the staff figured out there was a small group of passengers arriving late for their connection. She used her radio to stop the plane and got us on a bus to get to the plane. The baggage made it on time as well. You need part 2 of this video--the terminal doesn't look that busy--must pick a busy time.

I had the displeasure of visiting Atlanta airport this past February after 46 years. I was 12 back in 76 flying with my Dad from Orlando to Detroit. The train terminal connecting system wasnt there in the seventies. Ill never fly through there again! Thats the worst airport for connections that Ive ever been to. Long story short, I missed a tight connection because of the train system and had to wait 6 hours for another flight. I chose Delta because they had a larger A320 to Detroit out of Atlanta from Columbia, SC. From now on Ill just fly out of one of the best hubs ever, Charlotte, and be satisfied with their Embraer service on American Airlines to Detroit. As an aside, the service and attitudes are much better with American - in my opinion.

I got a kick out of this one. I had a similar connection in Atlanta a few years back. Our plane was actually late landing, so we had about 20 minutes. I was worried we were not going to make it so we ran through the airport and made it on time. It turns out there was no need to rush though, as they were waiting extra time on more than one late connection. I got the impression that they would have delayed the fight longer if needed rather than leave people, but I could be wrong.

With ATL, MCT works as long as everything else works. We were delayed in Miami due to weather and when we landed there was no way to make the plane. And weather delays had caused havoc in the entire airport. We ended up having to stay overnight and catch the early morning flight the next morning to BNA. I did get on a plane as standby the night before but then got pulled off when the late arrivals showed up.

Ive missed my 50 minute connection in Atlanta before. The flight leaving out of Chicago was late because the pilots were late getting to the plane. Their airport ground transportation from their hotel was late. On my race to get to the gate for my connection, my shoelace became untied. I stopped to tie them up and as I approached my gate, I saw the door shut to the jet bridge. Once that shuts, youre s. o. l.

Couple comments: Ask the flight attendant to make an announcement for people to stay in their seats that do not have a connecting flight so people with a short period of time to make their connections, also that wheel chairs are there with personnel to push them. I almost missed a connection when Delta did not of people ready to get me to my next connection. I ended up walking which is hard for me.

I remember a few years back when I had a similar experience, only this time I had around 59 minutes and also pass had to through the long lines of customs, I barely made it to my next gate just as the last few passengers were boarding. I never even noticed I made my connection so short until I went to check my boarding pass for my next flight as the plane was landing!

My dad and I were once flying MSP-ATL-FRA with about a 2. 5 hr layover. Because of a weather delay at MSP, that was whittled down to about 30 mins! Thanks to the trains between the terminals, as well as our running abilities, we made it just as they were about to give our seats away to people on standby! But we got there, and miraculously, our luggage did too!

Charleston is my home airport. I currently live and work in Norway. All of my flights to Norway from Charleston fly through Atlanta and I have had the llllooooonnnnnggggg connection; 4 hours +. My close connection is Amsterdam to Oslo at an hour and five mins. That one is very tight and normally my luggage doesn't make it. Enjoy your videos! Keep up the great work!

Being from customer service from airline industry, seeing many people miss connection- it's best if you have 2 hour domestic connection for big airports like ATL, considering all miscellaneous factors like weather, deboarding, etc. 3 Hours for International is a must. 3. 5 hours if you are rechecking in bags, doing security screening, airport checkin.

Thank you for this video. as a novice flyer, I booked a delta flight with a 40 minute layover in ATL. I have flight anxiety and the thought of missing a flight really stressed me out. I'm watching so many videos on how to navigate ATL so that I don't get lost once I deplane, and seeing your video really reassured me. Thank you so much!

I've only missed one connection flight in ATL and that was because my departing flight from Texas and then another plane got hung up at the arrival gate. The cards were just stacked against me. Outside of that I've never missed a flight through ATL. I've never had a layover longer than an hour. A 3 hour connection seems insane to me.

This is actually very encouraging, I have an international connection at YUL of 1. 5 hours for a big trip in June and it's been stressing me out, I was worried I'd make it but because international flights board so early I'd get locked out. Glad to have confirmed that they wouldn't sell me the ticket if it wasn't possible.

Ive only had one connection in Atlanta. From DEN to ATL to MCO. I needed to have lunch, because the flight was not long enough for the airline to serve food. I almost missed the flight because of that. Fortunately we made it to the gate. The connection was around an hour

3 hour minimum layovers at a hub? Wow. 45 minutes is probably my minimum for a connection. And no more than 90 minutes if possible. I just want to get to my destination as soon as possible. I obviously dont enjoy the airport/airline experience as much as you all do.

This did happen to me once. I was flying from Minneapolis to Erie PA connecting through Detroit with Northwest in Fall 2006, the flight to Detroit arrived late, I rushed to the gate for the Erie flight and I did miss it and got stuck in Detroit for 5 Hours.

I missed a 43 minute connection in Atlanta because the train was down. Attempted to walk from Concourse A to Concourse F (international terminal. Was supposed to be flying to London. Luckily Delta got us on a flight an hour later connecting through Paris.

In Taipei a ground staff was waiting for me and took me to my next plane without any worries.

I was flying from LAX-YYZ-YDF and I had a connection time of only an hour the terminal at which I would land was really far away from the terminal with my flight to YDF, in that terminal so old that the windows leak when it's raining.

I had a flight from Atlanta to Jacksonville NC. 45 minutes to get to Concourse to B to Concourse D and my gate was near the end of the D Concourse. Literally would never to that to myself again with a duffle bag and two backpacks.

Well you all did not have to make a flight from NYC to Atlanta then to Fayetteville, NC with the stop in Atlanta to transfer time of 10 min's back in the 80's (research that one) on the old Piedmont Airlines run.

Hi Jen. Does the Delta app have a feature to track your bags? I think the United app does which Ive used before. That could be a way to see if your bags made the connection

5: 23 - do not do this if your in Australia, if the plane is on the ground the shades are up (open, for security reasons, enabling people to see inside the aircraft.

More airports need to be on a grid like ATL, it improves connection times. CLT is HORRID for short connections since the airport does not have trains.

I found the hardest airport to make a tight connection in is Denver international because you cant really run if youre not acclimated to the high altitude.

I hate connecting through ATL. The last 3 times Ive changed planes there, I had to run from the far end of the one concourse to the far end of another.
