24hrs in Delta Air Lines' LUXURY SUITE (USA to Australia)

Watch this video to see Delta Air Lines get put to the ultimate test! Whats it like to fly their Delta One Business Class Suite on their flagship A350 for 24 hours from Atlanta to Los Angeles and on to Sydney? Were about to find out! This video will highlight the Delta One seat, the Delta Air Lines Business Class food, the Delta A350 inflight entertainment, the new Delta Sky Club in Los Angeles, and Deltas onboard service. Well even give the whole thing a JebScore! Perhaps the coolest thing about this trip is that we booked the entire thing in an A350 and, thanks to the quirks of the Delta schedule, the plane we took from Atlanta also took us to Sydney. But just wait to see how we prove that to you!

Having flown this same, round-trip routing on Delta in a suite 9 times this far, here's what I agree/disagree with regarding Jeb's ratings:
Deltas food ABSOLUTELY tastes so much better than it looks at presentation. That applies to every single food item with the exceptions of: Fresh, chunked fruit, ice cream and the dish of mixed nuts served with the first cocktail. Everything else tastes much better than its appearance. Veggies appear dull and overcooked, but they actually aren't. It's actually a bit strange! That said, since Delta replaced their former celebrity chef Michelle Bernstein, their new chef-inspired entrees are SO MUCH better. They had Bernstein's Braised Short Rib entree in Business for at least a decade, and while it was, imho, Bernstein's best entree, it doesn't come close to the newer Fox Bros. Short Rib entree (Fox Bros was rated the best BBQ house in Atlanta, like Delta. Because our taste buds are actually dulled while flying, be aware that most airline meals have much more added sodium, fat, and sugars to make up the taste difference. It's important to try and drink at least 8-12oz of water per hour to counteract the sodium and even more to avoid even mild dehydration to help avoid fatigue/jet lag. Plus and what's the best way to put this, to not change/delay your bathroom habits for several days at your destination, another cause of fatigue! That said, no airline entree (with the exception of caviar and blinis) is worth additional jet lag at my destination. Also, tjere's only one specific bread on one airline that is worth eating and I'd be happy receiving it in a restaurant: Singapore's garlic bread. Otherwise, skip airline dinner breads. They are all purchased from restaurant suppliers and are the bottom of the selections. Instead, have a croissant with breakfast if you must have bread. Ideally, if I'm skipping more than 4 time zones and want to counteract jet lag, I limit my meals on board and 12 hours prior to departure to fruit and veggies (non-starchy, if possible. If it means I'm going to enjoy my second 24 hours at my destination more, I don't mind passing on a short rib entree, breads and ice cream! Food in business is a 4. 5
As for seat comfort, I think Delta calling these suites is misleading. They're similar to their business, lie-flat 767ET seats, including the same, very narrow foot space when fully extended. I hate the small area for feet because it's disturbing when turning to/from your side. But, there is plenty of length there for taller passengers if they don't mind their feet hanging over the end. Jeb would prefer two pillows like United. Personally, I prefer Delta's extra large and fluffy pillow over two smaller, thinner pillows. The blankets are more likely twin-sized comforters stuffed with a down-alternative. They don't overheat you but still keep you warm. I'd be happy to have the same on my hotel bed. For this long of a flight, one of Delta's longest, I'd rate the business seats/suites with a 3. 5.
On international flights, if rate business service on Delta with a 5. Crews are very accommodating and seem to make a point to have a quiet, comfortable cabin atmosphere when everyone is interested in sleeping. The cres that fly this route tend to be quite senior, as well.
I do have to add that Delta's amenity kits have taken quite a nosedive. They used to be a good bit larger with several more items -- a toothpaste tube large enough for a week's trip, Scope mouthwash, and much higher-end convenience items like lip balm, facial moisturizer, hand cream, tic-tacs, a comb, socks with non-skid nubs on tbe bottoms and at some points, a disposable razor and shaving gel All of those little things you put in your checked bag and don't bring on-board because of the liquid limits at security. That said, they've included a ballpoint pen in their business kits for at least 20-25 years. Having a pen handy sure helps with those custom's and immigration forms! The newest amenity kits are very disappointing, imho.
Sorry for the length of my comment!

A few weeks ago I flew Delta One from Detroit to Tokyo, and the food was AMAZING. They had a choice of a western menu and a curated Japanese one, which I opted for. It was fancy restaurant-grade good! Breakfast was also amazing, I normally make chia pudding at home and much to my surprise, it was one of the breakfast options as well. I've flown United's Polaris, which I think has a better IFE, but Delta's food was hands down better. They are both equal on comfort.

wish I would have had this plane\service when I flew Delta from JFK to SAN. Unlucky for me I had an old 737-800 with about a 4 inch screen for movies in their business class. note to self, make sure when coming back from Europe, make sure it's CDG to LAX in La Premiere, otherwise I will be disappointed every time. And, yes, I'm spoiled now.

Jeb, if you see this; do you know of any straight flights to China (Shanghai or Beijing? I know flights are still thinner after everything, and I DO have some friends in China researching it; but was wondering if you knew of any. My late Son had taken a straight flight on China Air. but, they arent doing that flight again. yet.

I'm so incredibly poor that the closest I can relate to this is spending 16 hours on a bus from Melbourne to Sydney: P Suffice it to say, the seats were not quite as good. Also the guy sitting behind me threatened to go on a stabbing rampage when we were stuck in traffic for three hours.
Man it sucks being poor.

Great video as always Jeb! Thank you for taking the time and effort to make these videos and show them to the world! A lot of us don't travel much so it's fun to see how it all works and how the places look! I would prefer to have a layover in a city instead of a straight 24 hr trip because that seems rather insane to me haha.

This video provides a great overview of the luxuries offered within Delta Air Lines' LUXURY SUITE. However, it fails to mention the high prices associated with such extravagance; it is not a reasonable solution for air travelers on a budget.

Dont be too hard on this guy. Ive known a few people with real $. They wouldnt ve caught dead on a comnercial flight no matter what the accomodation. They rent private jets for $40, 000 a flught like the rest if us drop $10 on a cab ride.

Jeb - I just saw your trip to New York on Singapore Airlines Suites. The difference between these two airlines could not be dramatic. Literally a chasm. I would compare Delta Luxury Suites to SQ's old business class. Love your shows.

I've done this trip at least a dozen times, but in Ecomony, it's obviously must rougher. Jet lag going to Aus is not a problem if you can get a few hours sleep on the way. Going to the US, it the jet lag can be a real nightmare

These are fun but still sucks even in 1st class being on a plane that long. Lounges and everything 1st class aside the allure of the travel wore off for me years ago being forced to travel on business. The fun wore off in my 30s.

Hi Jeb, just recently come across your videos, really enjoying them. Always been a travel and watch enthusiast so your vids fit the bill nicely. Ive counted 3 GMTs so far, maybe I have missed one? Carry on travelling
reply

Great job making these videos. Were appreciative all good information. I hope you can able to make some with economy class because majority of us flying in economy class not these luxury expensive ones.

Hi Jeb, Im terrified to fly. But, Im retired & really want to travel to Italy to tour the country or Vancouver for an Alaskan cruise. How do I over come my fear of flying?
reply

I always booked this flight from lax to Atlanta, just in hopes Id get upgraded to delta one (sold as first class. Its happened twice now. Beautiful cabin! Delta 4eva
reply

So. in US you call ground floor first floor, but here you're calling the first hour of your trip Hour 0? There's something massively wrong with Americans and numbers
reply

Having never flown a delta flight that was on time I switched to booking united. the food didn't make up for it when your stuck in Arizona for 3 hrs on a business trip
reply

I am guessing $10, 000 -$12, 000 each round trip in First class/Business class for entire trip. Approx 4 X cost of a coach seat round trip ( 2500? ) I would guess.
reply

That LAX Sky Club is my go-to. I'll try and book Delta so I can get into the lounge for free with my Amex. The Centurion lounge in LAX is trash in comparison
reply

Depends on there class Im flying. Ive done 1 stop 24 hours Melbourne-London in BC on Qatar airlines and its great. But never ever would I do it in economy.
reply

8: 14 ngl, I was kind of hoping it wouldn't still be there because that would've meant Delta did a thorough job checking for any trash left onboard
reply

If I liked flying and had a nice seat like that I don't think I'd mind non stop. however it is nice to have a little break and stretch your legs
reply

The food looks awful and the presentation is ordinary at best. Plus you menu onboard and your preordered meal choices were one and the same.
reply

Gonna call you out on the jet-lag is a myth Says the guy paid to travel. Grow a set of balls and ride in economy for 24 hours.
reply

The meatballs are the same exact dinner I had on LAX-IAH. I would expect D1 to have better food than domestic first class.
reply

if youre traveling with someone, you both shouldn't order the same food. If the food is bad, one of you needs to remain healthy.
reply

I have never been in an airport lounge before, but do you have to pay for food while in the lounge or pay for any of it.
reply

I work for Delta Airlines. if you found that napkin on your next flight. That means they didn't clean the pockets
reply

paper cups for coffee in business class? and every time i see a video of an American carrier. it's never exceptional.
reply

5: 30 For business travel, I prefer non-stop. I like to stop in in-between cities for a few hours for holiday travel.
