ONBOARD Tanzania's Regional Airline: Precision Air Tony: Hi Noel, been following you for a long time. You are obviously a nice guy with a love for aviation but are you too naive, too trusting, for Africa? Maybe tell us how you plan trips in case of illness or theft or just being abandoned in a remote airfield. Coronavirus is bad but Africa has many dangerous illnesses waiting for unprepared travellers. Also bribes or gifts are the norm and if you cant or dont want to pay its good to have a plan. Actually your idea to hand over a token sticker or and be extra friendly is good. Makes it harder for a bribe to be demanded. Safe travelling

When it comes to haggling, I follow what my dad used to do abroad. He'd ask ahead to see what a fair rate was, then wait and see what someone would ask for. Say the driver asked for 20usd and the fair rate was about 15 or so, he'd haggle it down to 15 or close to it, and then pay the man 20 at the end if he could afford it. An ofcourse a little more if it was ridiculously cheap compared to where we were from. If someone was fair right from the start, I. e. ask for 15, he'd usually end up with 20 anyway.

We flew with precision Air from Arusha to Sansibar and there they serverd snacks and a hot and cold drink during the flight.
Duringe that flight the plane was fully booked, and we were sitting in the last row coming from a safari having al the camera and Telephoto stuff in the hand lugage.
So the overhead bins were full, the room below the seat was to small so wie hat to sit there with the camera equipment on the lap. Realy Realy narrow and drinking coffe in that position was a special thing.

Hi Noel, well said about the haggling. I was in Moshi, Tanzania recently as well and I know I overpaid for some clothes but I'm ok with it because they really need the help. Tourists that haggle incessantly to get a cheap price should be ashamed of themselves. Give them a lifeline; those extra bucks can mean a week or month's worth of food for their families.

With a long history of aircraft disasters being a direct result of failing airlines cutting corners, I have no idea how you can sit there with a smile and talk about the many years this airline has not made a profit, and the major loss in 2019, without wondering exactly what corners have been cut to keep them flying! :O

At 01: 38 he should tell you GBP 8 for the TAXI ride and then as you are good person would give him GBP 20! That would be fair ride.
So if somebody takes your car it would be OK with since that person needs money? I understand your point of view, but its all about being fair to each other.

Some nonsense here: you don't mind being ripped off paying $20 instead of $8 because you said it makes a big difference in the chauffeur's life, but then when the Uber driver is asking you to cancel so he can make an extra 20%, needless to say, I just take regular taxi. Double standards here!

For some reason i felt the need to find that Strictly Corona Dancing video. I found it. I was not disappointed
Search YT for: tumalize corona state house choir
I reckon if we had a state corona choir in the UK, people might actually start taking this virus a bit more seriously

Live your videos, however, you where OK giving the driver 20 for an 8 fair, although the uber driver phoned you to just do the hire but not through Uber. This is so he doesn't have to pay ubers fee off the hire. Samething. The fee might not be a lot to us but is for him.

I understand your comment about the extra amount paid for a taxi. So true when you live outside of an emerging nation. But when you are a foreigner living in those nation it then becomes an exploitation because you no longer are living on a foreign earning base.

I have to say I'm hooked on some of these trips you do. If you are up for another challenge, I'd love to see something like going from the world's most northerly commercial airport in Longyearbyen down to its most southerly one in Ushuaia

1 year late comment but was on that very plane in 2019. From Nairobi to Kilimanjaro. I actually got a free cracker and small bottle of water. And I actually bought the ticket from Qatar air.

1: 25 but I just dont get why people would haggle - because it's racial. why did you have to pay too much? because you are a white European. Equality must work in both directions!

Apropos of nothing much, do you have any tips on finding out what type of planes fly which routes? Looking to fly to Cyprus later in the year and would like to know in advance

Great footage, storytelling, and editing Noel. The end result of your time and effort is another engaging video. Brings a world far away just a bit closer. Thank you!

Brilliant video! Thank you for adding these two legs! Absolutely breathtaking part of the world, have fun, and fly safe as we fly into this brave new world! All the best!

Quick to forget that time in Mumbai the security guard ordered you to get out the car. Being ripped off in a foreign country just because you are white is not cool!
reply

Noel. I've been enjoying your adventures and misadventures. I need to ask though. In the midst of pandemic, why are you doing this? Please don't take offence.
