We went to Honolulu (17 days) via San Francisco (3 days) from London for our 25th Wedding Anniversary, stayed at the Ohana East. I was amazed at the number of Japanese there, I had been before a few times on ships (Engineer Officer on Ships) but it was my Wife's first trip ( we travelled four days after her mothers Funeral. We loved it, I had the honour of sprinkling the flowers of a Lae into the sea on the Arizona, a naval officer gave me the honour when she found out we had come all the way from Belfast. Enjoyed the 4th July on the beach, my Wife went swimming with the Dolphins, I played golf, would love to go back, but the Room Tax puts us off we pay enough tax at home.

It frustrates me too when crews close all the windows. But I'll tell you Air France did the same thing on your favorite A350 on a 10am morning departure from CDG-SEA. The flight attendants lowered the mechanical shades in business class. In fact I asked the flight attendant if I could keep it partially open for going over the glaciers of Greenland. She tried to unlock my window but the 2 phase mechanical shade was broken and couldn't be controlled by my switch on the 1 year old A350 and she came over and profusely apologized and said it happens all the time on the A350 mechanical shades.

Thanks for another great video Noel. I also agree with you that it feels very strange to be confronted with a enforced night flight during a day flight. Personally, I believe that this is not to accommodate the passengers who need a quiet night's sleep. But that it is purely a cost-saving measure. After all, during a night flight no meals need to be served. And the crew members can have a rest. For the record, I certainly do not blame the crew, who are usually very service-oriented. But the airline, for saving costs by putting down the light asap.

I think a lot of airlines companies are starting to use Starlink for their WiFi service. It’s been an every helpful service where no matter where you can get your hardware and service from Starlink for really good internet speeds for its customers. Safe Travels Noel and thank you for another great airline videos. Oh how are the prices for stuff in Hawaii now Still very expensive where last time I heard 10 dollars for a gallon of whole milk or have prices got any cheaper Take care Noel’

I can't be sure, it was very quick and not in detail, but that paste looking like some sort of hummus seemed to be baba ghanoush, also of Middle Eastern origin and eaten in the same way as hummus, but made with roasted eggplant (aubergines) instead of chickpeas. There are two versions, one made with fire-charred eggplant (which gets a characteristic burned taste that's better than it sounds) and the other without charring. A matter of taste, I love both.

What happens when you ask the crew to please unlock your window shade Is it all or none, or can they be locked or unlocked individually If they say it’s all or none, I’d have to say to themwell, I guess you’ll need to unlock all of them. I think also if you pressed the purser on whether or not it’s company policy or just the (made up) policy of that crew, I’d be willing to bet it’s not the official airline policy to do that.

A350>787 just for the windows alone, also the 350 is a tad roomier when the airline doesn't try to cram 10 seats across. Never understood locking out the 787 windows on daytime flights, especially just a Hawaii to western US hop. On my A350 experience, on the westbound flight back to the US from London most people kept the window shades open the whole 9 hour afternoon of our London > Denver flight.

I'm not sure why Boeing went with the goofy windows. I get the idea when it's a long flight and it's a daytime flight. A lot of people are watching movies, and the open windows let in a lot of light. I find it annoying flying from Europe and you can fly over Greenland. I always sit out in the window and look on approach. I hate when cabin crews leave the lights on when the plane is on approach

The open air area of the airport you were walking in also has a garden and memorial in the center of it. The memorial is for Clarabelle Lansing who was the flight attendant who lost her life when a flight she was working on Aloha Airlines, which suffered from an explosive de-compression and she was sucked out of the plane and died. It's really nice that they have that there in my opinion.

11: 42 someone finally said it! I purposefully avoid the 787 because of this, and I worry more future aircraft will adopt this tech.
I flew from HNL-DFW on AA’s 787, and they locked the windows blacked out from shortly after takeoff all the way until we were already on Final and literally touching down. Absolutely pissed I paid for a window seat and lost access to the window

When you pay the price for a first class seat, you should be able to control the lighting. They’ll have to be able get the Wi-Fi installed. People are going to want that service. Seemed like a nice plane but lacking in the style department. Sort of plastic chic instead elegant. Maybe that’s the new first class model. Get me there and charge me less.

Hey Noel, Hawaiian was the first airline to announce a partnership with SpaceX in 2022 to bring wifi to their entire fleet. They're currently in the process of retrofitting their planes, including the 787-9, which was ordered in 2018. Not fair to call them out and suggest using other airlines who have wifi (because they fly over LAND.

Back in 1977, when I was just a kid, we took Hawaiian from LA to Honolulu, to Maui, then back to the 'mainland' US. we were in economy on what I believe was a DC10, and a fruit punch was served to all passengers, from what looked like a model volcano which was on the cabin trolley. that's some 48 years ago. am I really that old!

You're not weird (on this issue) - mandatory dimming is super annoying. I get it if crossing multiple time zones and helping people to acclimatise to their destination. But a daytime to daytime flight just sucks. The cynic in me says they want passengers to sleep during the flight to make it a quiet flight for the attendants!

Mahalo doesn't mean hello/welcome/goodbye; it's a term we use for thank you.
E komo mai typically means welcome.
You can ask the flight crew to unlock your window if you want to change it in flight.
Wifi is available on the A330's but not on the Hawaiian B787 yet. I agree it should have been resolved before delivery.

I couldn’t believe the start no this week’. I thought it was a little bit on the old side no WiFi and them headphones looked old. Classic Noel with the pun hawawee. Bit weird with the windows but typical on the 787 as you said and thank you for another video and I’m excited for the rating in the future.

Noel you are British you have no idea what good cosine is lol still remember your easyjet flight to Spain for a dinner in the restaurant with Rachel. on the other hand I like the transition to the guy taking the first class flights, I salute you, a bit jealous but still thankful for the content

Love the videos. I watch them every week and look forward to them. I will admit though, I like the challenging videos better. Bussing across South America and India. Dodgy airlines. First Class, Lounges and Amenity Kits are not as entertaining. Haha! Anyways. Just my opinion.

00: 56 Crikey, it was on one of those lovely strolls through one outdoor walkway (I love them too) that there was a baggage checkpoint and my Hawaiian rice candy (that you can never find back in the states) plus my lovely butter avocados got confiscated! I was not happy, Mate.

I get mad about window shades especially if someone sits at a window seat and closes the window. If you pay for a window seat, you should keep the window open. I also don’t like how Hawaiian airlines forces everyone to close the windows because some people like to see outside.
