Shashkin's Cozy Survival
The wind chill factor is super huge for hammocks. I've once put a hammock at a nice place between three pines standing separate to other trees. What a huge mistake it was Fortunately, we were getting to the place by boat and we had some life vests with us, I've used them to build a wall inside a hammock which somewhat protected me from the wind. So, now I tend to use diamond-style tarp setup over hammock with the side angles going almost down to the ground. Young (yellow) dandelions we've used at childhood to colour our playing hut we've build from the various wooden construction wastes we've found: D

Firstly, thank you for showing the DD pro tarp. I've been looking for the perfect tarp for a long time. One that is 3x3, h2o proof, durable AND has snaps. I was told that only very hard to find, discontinued European military ones had snaps. I'm also very pleased that it's made by DD as I really like their products and they are not ridiculously expensive. This was a VERY informative vid n got a lot out of it. So again thanks for another interesting, valuable content vid. Oh, I didn't catch which hatchet you had, can you let me know the brand and model? Be Blessed in all good things.

The whoopie slings are so handy. I've been using them for the past 3 years now. The only thing I did differently was, I used the original Hammock straps as tree hungers. By pulling them through the Hammock making a small loop, cutting the rest off. With that length double over tie the ends together and then place a series of knots up the length so you can adjust the length in more stages. But more to the point yet another cracking vid Mike.

That was a great looking hammock/tarp setup. Also the segment on wild edibles was great. Only suggestion would be to make some sound/music/talking at the very beginning so that we can adjust the volume accordingly, so that when you do start talking we can hear it or are not blasted out of our computer chairs for having it set too high. Loved the video, Thanks Mike. Florida, USA.

Such a relaxing video. Took me back to my childhood, playing in the woods, getting stung by nettles and cleavers sticking to our socks. We used to snap the Dandelion stem and dare one another to lick the liquid inside, it was said to make you wet the bed if you dared to lick it. Thank you for another enjoyable video. I could listen to the birdsong all day

Word to the wise. please don't just snap off bits of twigs from tree's like in this video. fair enough the tree looks dead so its not going to harm the tree, but it leaves lots of nice little pointy bits sticking out which could injure people and wildlife. knife or hatchet to leave a clean cut as close to the tree as possible.

Thanks Mike, Very Entertaining. Love the No Speak intros. I tend to concentrate on what you are doing. Here in Wisconsin spring is having a real hard time getting going, My outside wood burner is still going, and the local ski hill is still open till next weekend. Some of the lakes north of me have 30 inches of ice yet. Mike M.

Great vid Mike, you covered a bunch of bushcrafting topics from collecting and eating wild edibles to bowdrill and a basket weaving. As soon as I saw you weaving the basket, a creel came into mind. I bet you could make a creel with the same vines. That would be interesting. Thanks for sharing and cheers to you.

I've got a very similar sleep system to yours, except I have the Travel Hammock. It's the same as the Frontline, but the base is waterproof so it can be used as a bivvi if there are no trees in the campsite. Excellent video, very interesting, especially the foraging bit in the middle. Thank you.
