Four Seasons Resort Lanai (Hawaii): impressions & review Thomas Carey: I visited this resort before the renovation occurred, but what I will say is still true, with one possible exception. First, the facts. Dole Pineapple with the primary shareholder, a Mr. Murdoch, not Rupert, owned 96% of the island and employed Philippine laborers. Then, Dole moved to Southeast Asia to save labor costs, so these workers were unemployed. Murdoch bought the land and built two resorts at a cost of 800 million, Koele and Lanai, for the purpose of attracting wealthy tourists to buy his homes and condos. The local government stopped him, so he sold the island to Larry Ellison, whose purpose was to grow organic vegetables. One possible change since the renovation: I took a ferry from Maui and a van gave me a 5 minute ride to the resort, costing 47. 00 per person. This charge might have been eliminated: gouging in paradise. The place is beautiful and the service wonderful, but the island's history is another example of the sad exploitation of the indigenous and immigrant laborers. Mr. Luxury Travel Expert should be more complete in his history of places to see.

You neglected the ownership part when in 2006/07 Bill Gates (Microsoft) and Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal (Kingdom Holdings) purchased Four Seasons by taking it private. Bin-Talal is now under house arrest and in jail (The Ritz Carleton Riyadh) for accused crimes of money laundering, corruption and theft. One can reasonably expect Mr. Gates to assume full ownership in the nearest future as payment to the Saudi Arabia treasury for bin-Talal's mis-deads, if proven? And Four Seasons fun fact. Mr Sharp does not allow turndown pillow chocolates. In his view consuming chocolate late at night interrupts and affects sleep patterns and therefore a good nights sleep cannot be achieved.

Over the years of traveling, I have always loved the Hilton Hotels. My crews and I have stayed in so many of the Hilton and Hyatt Hotel properties. So, I got use to the Hilton hotels from those layovers experiences so much. And thus that became my first choice hotel property. Then over the years when I became a SPG Member, I would vacation on my own I would try the Four Points Sheraton and Sheraton Hotels in general. Then on many times, I would treat myself to a Hilton Hotel property. Nice.

I do like the music choices you make for your videos. But I also have to agree that the best sound track for the ocean is the ocean itself. That lanai attached to the room was just lovely. All that greenery draped around, the view of the ocean. And the never ending blue sky. Very relaxing. The shallowness of the pools somehow doesn't bother me. There is a breathtaking ocean and beach right over there

Looks amazing. Nice tropical & lush I was at Grand Wailea last year and this place looks a lot less hectic. Peaceful. Looking forward to your video on Maui. Although the lobby, tropical gardens & pools at Grand were incredible, don't think Ill go back-too crowded. Thanks, nice work. Mahalo

Most of this is on Google maps. The one thing I was hoping this video would show is the gym. Renting a vacation property next to the Four Seasons is an another way to go for anyone who likes to make their own meals. The ultimate experience would be a tent and campfire right on the beach.

Oracle is not making the internet work. Oracle is a company that provide database software and a large variety of ERP software products. (Accounting, budget, HR, - Enterprise Resource Planing. They started in '80 with database products. Now they focus on so-called Cloud products.

Still looks like a better Sheraton to me. That lobby staircase and those armchairs on the veranda seemed straight from a Courtyard by Marriot frankly. Some of these refurbs seem to just slap some paint and slightly better furniture on established architecture. Disappointing.

Great video, I really want to visit. I miss Hawaii so much The grounds on the resort are beautiful, but they give people the mistaken impression that Lanai is a lush tropical paradise, which of course it isn't. Lanai is a mostly desert-like environment.

Very nice. As usual, you almost make me feel like I'm there. Thanks for taking me along, again. Your videos are like an adventure and a meditation at the same time, and your music choices are always on point. Right down to the music of the ocean. ;)
