Cool insights guys. For me having some semblance of style, if you can call it that, while traveling is all about two things: jeans and t-shirts. Specifically, ONE or maximum two pairs of jeans. but lots of t-shirts with different designs. Nobody is going to notice if you're wearing the same pair of jeans every day. But if you're wearing the same t-shirt, that's going to get boring. T-shirts pack light, so that's a great way to have some variety in your wardrobe while still keeping things compact. As for shoes, if it's the tropics or somewhere else nice and warm, then sport sandals, that's it. You can hike in them, walk around town, go to the beach, whatever. If there will be more of a variety of climates then sport sandals and as Marko said, some sort of all-purpose trail running shoes. A couple pairs of shorts and a rain jacket, and you're basically good to go. unless you're going to the Himalayas or something, which is a different story Then you've got to fork over for some serious gear and have some more room in your pack for heavier clothes.
