Links to Participants: Christine Machado- Catherine Gregory- Jaxx Drinkwater Randy: I've carried a small whittling and carving set more for mental health and to de-stress than anything else. I've been carrying them for about 50yrs. now. I carve little woodland creatures and leave them where I camp so if someone finds them it might brighten their day. Also I carry a few in my pack so if somebody does a good thing for me I give them one and sometimes just to brighten their day. So if you find one I hope you smile and maybe take it with you as a token of solidarity with other hikers. I do the same thing with canoe or a few motorcycle trips so you never know where you might find one. Enjoy!

I never leave home without my GSI commuter java press, and my favorite coffee. which I buy my freshly roasted beans at a local coffee shop. I also carry a bag of peanut M&M's for every day I am on the trail. I always carry a paper back book that I only read on outings. currently working my way through The Outsiders (loved that book since I was a kid in the 80's. And you can't hit the trail without a deck of UNO cards!

After watching many dozens of your videos, including your whole AT trip and many more--there aren't too many surprises anymore--but this was so cool! To watch you reflect on the past adventure through your journal was really neat. There are so many good people in this world. Just wow. :)

Holy shit, is that what normal people who journal think? I hope one day my kids read this and understand who I am. Not If anyone finds this, I'm to by committed for life and everyone I know will disown me? My thoughts should not be allowed to exist in the physical world

Johnson and Johnsons talcum powder to apply to take at least the feeling of grottiness away from my body. I've been doing section hikes before I do the end to end and definitely a sitting pad for my arse is on the cards for next section.

I am planning to hit the AT in 2020. So glad you mentioned a journal! You know that ice breaker game where everyone takes turns saying what 3 things would they like to have if stranded on a deserted island? Me? Big knife, journal, pencil.

To me a trail journal is an essential. Mine takes me back to the moment on the trail, reminds me of things forgotten and links me to my growth and discovery at the time, reminds me of my strength.

I bring a cot. In my old age, I need a flat surface to sleep. I am also frequently at or above treeline. A hammock won't work in too many situations. So I carry a 42-ounce Helinox Lite Cot.

I have a Martin Backpacker acoustic guitar that I take with me. I had it for part of my deployment to Afghanistan as well. It has some miles on it.

Oh yes coffee that's not to talk to me until after I've had my first cup or all you'll get is a grunt after my coffee there's never a dull moment
