Do hikers carry those with them or are some of the hostels and other stopping points kind enough to have those around for anyone to relax and enjoy with?

So all these people you're now hiking with, did you know any of those before it started and organized to start and hike together, or are these people that just happened to be starting the thru-hike on the exact same day you did?
Is this typical of the amount of people that are going through each day?

The crowd hiking is a contrast from the PCT hike later. Not sure where you are most of the time except for references to towns or gaps. Not sure of the date either since it seems cold for summer.

The more AT stuff i watch the more i realise it's more of an escapade for rich, middle class, wannabe hippies, and less of a traditional hike to get closer to nature.

I had a Timber Rattler take a shot at me between the Priest Shelter and RT 56. Have you had any of these encounters? I had my 3/6/10 year old boys with me!
