Update 11: Getting Some Rest

Dixie and the fam rest up before heading to Trail Days in Damascus, VA. John: I remember the piped water oh so well at the Abingdon Gap Shelter. It was only a trickle when I staggered down the hill to fill my Sawyer. Seemed to take forever to gather 2 liters of water. Didn't help that halfway through filling I accidentally bumped the pipe and sent a big blob of sediment into the bladder. Had to dump it and start all over: (
Hopefully that didn't happen to you when you washed your hair. How you always manage to look like you just stepped out of the pages of Glamor Magazine in all your videos is a constant source of amazement to me!

Ooh one more thing (I realise you're several months on, but) don't wash your hair, clothes, or shoes in running water.
What I would do is get a drybag, fill it up, and wash out of it like a basin (perhaps hang it off a branch to access it, then tip the water somewhere, perhaps dig a big first, to prevent any body grime or bacteria getting into the local wildlife.

So, I first went through your recent PCT videos which I totally loved and now just to compare I am watching through your AT videos. (Also because I can't get enough of your hiking adventures. ;) ) I gotta say, I think I prefer to do the PCT first. There's simply too much rain for me on the AT. You're constantly wet! Didn't that bother you like crazy?

Oh the grease strainer pot. I have about 25 of those as my shop buys them from China and sells them on Amazon. Stanco Metal products out of Grand Haven Michigan. That is what my boys and I use. I like your idea of removing the handle and putting the hook on the lid.

Did you initially plan on taking as many '0' days as you did throughout your thru hike? Or was it more of a it just felt right to do at the time type of thing? I only ask cause I would think the goal would be to take as few '0' days as possible.

I like my hot showers, warm bed, and a car to get around. I have section hiked the AT at Mt. Rogers, Va. but cannot imagine doing the entire AT. You did it and had lots of fun. Congrats.

Can someone PLEASE go to 00: 31 in this video and tell me what tent that is - that is in the center of the frame. The white-ish one, not the orange one: )
Thanks!

I can't believe some of the most iconic parts of the AT were not shown like the balds at Carver's Gap and on Roan Mountain. What's that all about?
