Tents. You can buy the footprint. What is the footprint? Is that the floor? I would prefer a tent that is sealed from walls to floor, to keep out bugs, snakes, dirt. By vestibule I suppose that means the top of a double layer. I would want a tent with built-in screens for ventilation that can be closed for rain or cold. Speaking of dirt, I know over time keeping the dirt out is impossible. You have to be able to take off your socks overnight if they're wet. I would have to develop faith in the water filtration system and would probably add a chemical. Problem with cooking is cleaning the cookware on limited, cold water. I don't get the aluminum foil on the pot. Do you change it every time? Knocking over a pot cooking could scald you so be careful. Uncertainty regarding when one will be able to recharge devices. Pretty thorough advice though I will probably never go long distance due to spine issues. She is what we used to call hardcore in the army - tough and strong - if she ever reads this. ( I have watched both her AT and PCT series. One should add a smoke-filtering mask out west due to prevalent forest fires.

You did a great job. Enjoyed your telling of your bear encounter, so funny, a lot like me. When one bear came at me i think it was a case of mistaken idenity, as he cover about 50 yards running straight at me. The only thing i had was the river rocks at my feet and was wondering how useful this was going to be. The though in my mind was You gotta be kidding me. The rocks and mud was taring up behind him flinging through the air. I had nothing left but to take a firm stance, and point my finger at him and shout NO. It actually worked, he stopped in his tracks and stood up to assess perhaps just what I was, maybe because Caribou don't shout. He then dropped to the ground and ran off just as fast. I had the most joyful nervous laugh. But i still talk to my bears like they were pets.

the more i learn about you the more amazing you shine.
you inspire me to get my gear together, i did buy a pack; Teton grand 5500 and a down bag that feels so light and fluffy its the finest thing to touch my skin (next to some past lovers that is), have a cheap walmart 2 person tent and shopping around for the right sleeping pad as i had neglected to employ one in my last camping trip and as i'm sure you guessed i will not repeat that mistake again.
Any way you are awesome be safe out there maybe ill see you on the trail one day. I would thank you. stay up DIXIE.

I find myself (mistakenly) not wanting to watch anybody else's videos. How could they better than Dixie's? I can't imagine it. I stumbled on Homemade Wanderlust four days ago, and I can hardly think of anything else. including eating and sleeping. (it's 1: 00 AM) When you looked into the camera while you were hiking (AT '15, around update 30 somewhere) and said, essentially, It's time to stop thinking about your dreams and live them, it went into my soul. I cried.
You are a gifted presenter. God has big plans for you!

I found your videos and followed your AT hike throughout, thank you for sharing! Amazing energy with the desire to do another thru hike. Looking forward to follow your PCT, Stay safe and God Bless.

Nice presentation Dixie. Very impressed. I've seen quite a few of your youtube videos. Quite a bit of my time over the last few weeks has been spent between watching your stuff, Hiker Trash's stuff and the Clever hiker dude. I'm in prep-mode for lots of hiking in Sweden. So I appreciate the info you guys have all volunteered. Thanks.

Hi Dixie, I loved your stuff I watched it from the start to finish and thought about it most of the time in between. One video I saw you empty out of your shoes dirt then I saw Darin video and he sued gators on his walks you should look his stuff up.

How did you recover from the Achilles tendinitis and plantar fasciitis? I'm suffering from it now, and if I walk more than half an hour, it starts to really bother me. I'm terrified I'll never be able to backpack again.

So I carried my little self down to Texas. I can't be the only one that suddenly had this vision of you walking along the free way with your pack on your back! Great presentation. PS, do you ever breath!
