Dixie takes a short break to attend her brother's graduation back in Alabama. sunriderksy: I am so late to the party here, but had to comment on something. I was never a hiker, but had aspirations of doing so when I was young. I did however, build part of that trail you hiked. I worked the entire season on the Mid-Atlantic Trail Crew in 1990. I completely understand the friendships that come from that camaraderie and why Rigga wanted to meet your family.
When crew was over I went to Chesapeake Bay and went sailing with a crew volunteer couple, staying with them for a week. Then up to Chicago for another visit with someone else there, before heading home to St Louis. It is indeed a life-changing experience.

During the video a quick pan of the supper table (9: 01) shows what I may believe is a clothes iron. I also thought it is possible but from what I have learned about Auburn fans it may not be. Each year, the Auburn football team plays with the fellas from Alabama in a game called the Iron Bowl. The War-eagle/Tigers take this very seriously. Is it possible that Auburn fans have a iron-shaped bowl that holds - I don't know - salsa? And I just never saw one before?

Country's Barbecue -- probably my favorite place to eat during the during the 10 years or so that I lived in Auburn (I got 3 degrees there. I went to high school in Smiths Station. I'm enjoying the videos. I'd love to thru hike, but the best I can do for now is a section during May this year, considering the job, wife, and kids. I should have done it a long time ago.

Haha. Wow. I have been watching these videos to get a feel for what could be expected with a thru hike. and then realized you were at the same Country's Barbecue I grew up eating chef salads from. Same age from the same city. Sad note, that Country's BBQ closed.

Id love to hike the AT! I'd love to hike my bucket list of places lol. But, I haven't quite figured out how you afford to take off for a few months at a time from the grind of a job. Being on the trail for that long obviously costs. How do you manage?

Just visited your blog and my heart goes out to you Dixie. I'm so sorry for your loss. Vet costs have skyrocketed in the last 5 years. I know this all too well. I will be donating to help you out a bit.

Has there been talk or has anyone tried a small pack in front of your body? Like maybe 20% or 30% of total pack weight. Perhaps hiking could be a bit easier more balanced and not hunched over
