A public service announcement. Be careful with altitude sickness defined as negative health effects of high altitude caused by rapid exposure to lower levels of oxygen at higher elevation. It takes 2 weeks for your body to fully acclimate its level of red blood cells! It does not matter how physically fit you are. Dixie was at sea level for 2 weeks so her body fully adjusted to that level of oxygen. It was ok at the beginning of the trip because she slowly hiked to a higher elevation. However going from sea level to 10, 000 feet and doing strenuous activity increases risk. Mild cases include nausea, tiredness, dizziness, trouble sleeping. Severe cases include unconsciousness, fever, death. There is no medicine to help this. I live at high elevation so I see this every now and then. People have to be life-flighted out of here with altitude sickness. People also die. Please educate your self and take precautions.

Very inspiring Dixie! I may get my wife on a thru hike with your help and the proper lightweight gear. In 2016 I hiked the JMT. and that was awesome, almost a teaser, but sleeping on Mt. Whitney was an experience I'll take to the grave! I have my sights set on the Hayduke trail next. Cheers from Cerrillos, New Mexico

Lol on the wisdom teeth part. I once had 9 teeth removed in like 45 min. (all of my wisdoms included there. I was getting braces at the time and they said i had over crowded teeth. So one weekend of pain, but a lifetime of happiness! Lol! And fyi, i was unconscious for that removal.

Brilliant upload as usual. You still have a beautiful face.
My cousin had dry socket. Because he would not listen to me. He had to go back to the dentist they put a liquid antibiotic in the hole with a two inch needle.
I hope you was not in too much discomfort.

Dry socket sucks, it also gives you flu like symptoms and fever. I found out the only thing that actually helped me was Echinacia. Plain old Purple Cone flower youve probably passed many times on the trail. I love your videos, thanks for taking us along.

Went from watching the part about having diarrhea and looked away for a second to hear what only could be described as watery diarrhea with groans. Had to rewind and I'm glad it was just flushing out a water filter.

Poor thing, that stinks about your tooth. One state down, awesome! Have you heard of the Crawford family? They are a family with six kids (the youngest is 2) and they are hiking the AT. It's awesome!

I wondered how the elevation was affecting you during the hike. We moved to Colorado Springs via the USAF and I had a headache for 2 solid weeks before I acclimated. Thanks for sharing.

Applause from Colorado! You're going to talk me into a thru-hike with your videos!
(I gotta take care of this Grand Canyon section hike first)
Cheers and well wishes. Thanks!
