2026 Nissan Sentra First Look - Nissan's Compact Sedan Makes A Big Statement

For 2026 the Nissan Sentra has been reborn as a style-forward compact sedan with a more premium interior and tech borrowed from Nissan's EV lineup. What don't we get More power. Sadly the drivetrain is basically warmed over from 2025. That's not terrible if you're comparing this to a base Corolla or Civic, but there's no competition in the Nissan lineup to the more powerful options in this segment, or the hybrid alternatives either. Here's why we don't talk about reliability much: And resale value Same thing:

They redesigned/updated the CVT in 24, making it smaller with less moving parts less heat generation and more durable. The CVTs have been pretty solid since the 2020 updated versions came out. I bought a 24 to run to work and back, it's an SV mid level trim with heated seats and steering wheel. It was $4k off and ended up being $20443. To be honest I hardly drive my pickup anymore because the little turd car is so comfortable, rides better, and easily gets over 40mpg for me. 26k miles so far with no issues, the backup camera hasn't even so much as flickered. The safety stuff works exactly like it should, no phantom automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring and cross traffic alerts work perfect. It has automatic rear emergency braking so you don't back into stuff and it's been perfect too. This is the only new car I've driven that I leave all the emergency stuff turned on because it's not too intrusive.
I say buy one when they're on sale, spend a grand or 2 on an extended warranty and you'll have a cheap good looking economical comfortable car that should easy go 100k miles with minor issues. My family buys Nissan Sentras and Versas as their children's firtst cars and we have only had one need major repairs and that was at 150k miles. We've been handing these cars down from older to younger kids since the 20teens. Change the fluids and drive them responsibly and they're great cars.

I thought Alex was going to say that new Sentra took the page out of the Kia K4 with the screen layout. Which almost an exact replica of it. Just different software. Sentra just needs a performance trim to compete with K4 turbo, Civic Si, and Elantra N(N-Line. SR trim with at least 200hp and an 8spd automatic or manual. A SE-R with the same powertrain. Just more hp that is close to 300hp. Glad to see Nissan are not making boring looking economy boxes. And cheers for having full LED on all trims. That's a jab at Civic and Corolla.

The last gen was handsome. This thing is a mess. The C-pillar alone is inexcusable, but there are lots of other misses too. The front end is too tall. The trailing end of the beltline is too high, which makes the wheels look too small. The hood is too short, but the front overhang is too long. The deck lid is too short. This thing is a proportional nightmare. Then they’ll cancel it altogether claiming no one wants sedans.

I love my 2021 Altima! Hopefully they don't kill it and come out with a redesign! But this Ultima is better than 90% of the cars on the road that I have tested! I don't care what no one says Nissans are the most reliable vehicles they kill every American car! And don't even get me started on that low quality Hyundai's that break down all the time! Nissan is the Pinnacle after Toyota and Honda!

Look's very cool but I was really hoping they were offering a turbo engine variant with north of 230 hp! Pretty disappointed if being fair and honest! Hard to lean towards this with the GR-COROLLA, Golf-R, Type-R, and the Hyundai and Kai offering cool compacts but with real world hp! Nissan, you're losing me.

11: 06 Sigh Still waiting for a manufacturer to bring a dedicated Depeche Mode button.
Otherwise, I think this is a good update. The outgoing Sentra had an attractive enough exterior, but the interior was bland and the rear seat felt claustrophobic compared to the K4 or Elantra.

I find the front end styling too messy, but overall it's attractive enough, and the interior is really nice. The powertrain is underwhelming, but for the people who buy these that probably doesn't matter as much as keeping the price down.

It's good to see Nissan is now remodeling their cars every few years instead of going over a decade like they have in the past. It looks like they are trying to stay competitive. I hope their new models will keep them from going under.

Very nice looking car. But for Nissan to survive the US market at least they really need to introduce new powertrain. Powertrain is the heart of the car and if you got it wrong compared to others then you are done.
reply

With Nissan on the verge of collapse, you got to wonder how much money they invested in styling vs engineering quality. Well, it's an attractive car that uses a Nissan CVT still, I think we have our answer.
reply

I do like the internal packaging on this. The backseat in particular makes my TLX downright claustrophobic in a car close to half the price. These seats look much more comfortable than what's in the Civic.
reply

Assuming it's more comfy than the competition just like the last few gens, I would buy one as my kids first car. Modern Nissan products are just nicer than a lot of their competitors.

We talk about Shiny black interior plastics but what about the Black shiny EXTERIOR plastics all over the front I think that would like terrible after a few car washes or winters.
reply

Another failed opportunity to upgrade the power train at this point Nissan could care less on what the market wants by coming out with this under powered unreliable car.

The Sentra, known in China as the Sylphy, is actually one of the best-selling vehicles in the world. It’s a key model for Nissan - sporting an E-Power version in Asia.
reply

Nissan did a great job. It looks great inside and out.
Forget saying nissans going bankrupt. If they were they couldn’t afford to redesign their lineup

reply

I think it looks great, and look forward to hearing your thoughts when driving it. After watching this, my only wish was that Nissan provided rear seat vents.
reply

Nice car, at least Nissan is trying to keep affordable vehicles available to the average consumer. Why does this engine get more HP than the Kicks engine
reply

Not a fan of the touch climate controls. Steering wheel looks odd. Other than that, I think it looks pretty nice, but my guess is that SL trim will top 30K.
reply

If the issues with low transmission durability and metal corrosion are resolved, the brand's engineering traditions will continue to delight its loyal fans.
