2020 Sonata First Drive

Sedans are unlikely to tempt crossover converts but there are still plenty of folks out there looking for a sleek sedan that handles better than a CUV and is more efficient to boot. That's exactly the demographic Hyundai is hoping to attract with the all-new 2020 Sonata. tim johnson: Sedans will not die out altogether but are going to become marginalized as Crossovers are the new family car. I agree with Alex's opening statement though as sedans become the equivalent of the new personal coupe with less practicality and more style and performance. The next gen Mazda6 will be rear wheel drive with an inline 6 and radically different styling.

I wonder why until today no manufacturer build a collapsible center in the back seats. Who will seat in the center will have a lever below the seat, pull it forward and the seat collapse to give him head room. When you go back to a 2 people back seat configuration, pull lever again and the center will rise to the default position to give lateral support. Is it difficult to engineer?

Don't they put bumpers on cars anymore? This thing wouldn't last ten minutes in Philly when somebody backs into a parking space hits that front end you will be driving cracked plastic. Instead of suitcases in the trunk test it out with a set of golf clubs and see how they fit. Offer a 6 cylinder and I would consider it.

There's like 40 seconds of black screen scattered throughout the video. Interesting several reviewers have noted wind noise. Hyundai used acoustic laminated glass and the competition doesn't, maybe Hyundai has a problem with fit? I like this look in red, but every other color I hate it.

It's unusual but pleasing to look at it. I wish I could say the same for the current gen Elantra. Feels like Hyundai is testing the waters with vastly different designs between generations. I hope this one sticks. Trunk button location is genius btw.

No one does it like Alex, I repeat no one. Yes Tom Voelk's reviews are entertaining and The Straight Pipes definitely more like a buddy comedy show, but when it comes to complete details and honest opinion, no one beats Alex Dykes.

Looks very good except why all that seat travel when us tall people have trouble getting into and out of low slung cars. like the Honda Accord. One reason for crossovers and SUVs is ease of entry and exit.

Between the 2. 5 and 1. 6 i dont see myself trading my 15 Optima sxl with the 2. 0t that would be a massive power decrease hopefully you can review the upcoming Optima GT or Sonata N

What happened to the bumpers? It used to be a solid piece of plastic at the front and rear. Now there is no bumper. On slight hit to the front of back means expensive repairs.

i think the blacked out parts of the video are interventions from the video editor. she had to remove parts she was filmed on a bad angle. cause the first one was lovely: )
