I drive the older Veloster, and I'm sure they made plenty of improvements in the past few years, but just putting it out there, Hyundai is still kinda cheaps out on many things, while Mazda has decades of experience building their Miatas and won numerous awards over those years. So if you want reliability, I'd go with the Miata. If you want something Fast and the Furious type of experience and you aren't thinking of the 100s of thousands of miles you gonna put on or resale value etc. go with the Veloster N.

HAPPY NEW YEAR/DECADE Alex1 To you and yours You are without question my favorite reviewer of all things automotive Next to that, That well informed guy from Engineering Explained is my runner up only because, like him, I too think of the details as well. Plus, I like the model 3 and what he's done in terms of aftermarket wheels/tires plus his insight into it's systems and use.

Odd comparison. The Mazda is a great little car for those that want a go-kart type driving experience in a relatively affordable real car. There are no other options in it's price range (anymore. The Veloster is yet another reason the (highly configurable) Mustang is the most popular sports car in the world.

a sports car does not have to be blazing fast, its about the journey. handling, nice acceleration (smooth toque going up the band, one of my first cars was the honda prelude FWD and lacking hp but it felt good everytime you hit the pedal with 4 wheel sterering it was something else as far as handling.

I love my ND Miata but its in storage until March. Its just not a viable option for a 1 car garage. Ive had a GTI (similar to the Veloster) but that didnt work either because. well. the top doesnt go down. Solution? Accord and MX5: -)PS Jason in the trunk was the best thing Ive seen all day lol

MX-5 Miata- more fun, more reliable. Veloster N- seats 4, better on snow, worse dealer staff people. My choice- a used soft-top Miata with 50 thousand miles by the previous owner, and a CX-5 for winter driving and family of 4 vacations. I have the CX-5 and 2 motorcycles, instead of a Miata.

Jason: This is the lightest car designed to be fun to driveExcuse me, but that trophy goes to the Swift Sport (950kg, with special mention that the Swift is way more practical than the MX5 and you can easily achieve fenomenal fuel consumptions (15-16km/l in my case) for how fun to drive it is.

I have an ND1 Miata and I am ok with it not being as fast as a V6 Camry. It is all about the low seating, great handling, easy heal-to-toeing. The car is plenty zippy enough. Given the road conditions and traffic in this country, 0-60 times aren't as important as handling and driveability.

What a viewer thrill my 2 absolute favorite car reviewers on YT doing a colab. Alex don't be shamed cause you couldn't fit in the trunk but Jason could. it's something you could make into a body shape goal. Fitting in a miata trunk. I would just let it go.
