Alex, it's not so much OD, It's the problems created by it or associated with the 1. 5L. The Biggest is ability to build heat within local stop and go driving. Highway driving no problem, but if you drive stop and go you will never be able to build cabin heat and below 32 degree weather. Even worse when in the single digits. I cannot speak for the 2020's but hopefully its been somewhat fixed. The OD issue can be overcome by changing the oil more frequently. It's a shame Honda has taken a wait and see attitude and is handing out extended warranties instead with no real solution. Perhaps Honda will wake up and put the 2. 0 T 10speed auto in the future. Quite possibly the best powertrain combo on the market now because the CRV platform is one of the best if not currently the best on the market.

Over boosted tiny motor with oil dilution. No thanks. A big step backward for Honda. And only selling well because the poor saps buying it trust the brand. Next time around they probably will skip the brand entirely. Oh and by the way, there is no fix. Its a oem defect in design. Don't let this guy fool you. Stay clear of this one. The issue is they over boost such a tiny motor. A 2. 0 with less boost would avoid the problem. Oh yeah, they already have a 2. 0T. Go figure. Oh and why does Honda still have a digital speedometer. Its no longer 1997. Everybody else has moved on. Just terrible gauge cluster. The worst. Also Honda has already extended the warranty on the motor. This is the first sign of a oem trying to reduce litigation and lawsuits.

One time Camry was best selling for years in a row That's whyIt's insulting intelligence of average american car buyer buying these type of vehicles. Camry was worst in most tests and reviews as it was soooo outdated but it had 2 things going for it it was super reliable and it held value superbly. These new Hondas use bad design 1. 5t engine that is a ticking time bomb and Fed can not force Honda to replace these POS 1. 5t with properly designed unitsThan comes CVT, it could be ok in super econo oriented Fit Versa Yaris like sub compact often selling for 15Kusd but never in any more expencive and more ambitious vehicles. It sucks and has no place in any car sold over 20K usd.

In the last few years Honda taken some serious hits to its reputation of building reliable cars. There's an ongoing class action lawsuit over its faulty and reportedly unfixable infotainment system. Every year since 2016 Consumer Reports has given the MDX no more than a 1 / 5 on reliability. Again according to Consumer Reports, the Odyssey received a reliability rating of 1 / 5 in 2018 and a 2 / 5 in 2019. There have been so many instances of problems with the 1. 5 litre engine that Honda has extended the warranty on over 1 million of them.

I will always criticize Honda until they do some major, much needed tech upgrades to the CRV in order to compete with their competitors that offer a much more compelling value. They still have no ventilated seats, no pano moonroof, no 360 (Birdseye) camera system, and are still using small, outdated infotainment screens and generic Honda-branded sound systems that sound like garbage compared to everything else. Keep in mind, Honda charges the same or more than their main competitors for LESS features. Honda really needs to step it up

I have 3 neighbors in my condo complex, with 1. 5 CR-V's and they have never had an oil dilution problem. I live in Massachusetts and it does get cold. They do let their Honda's warm up and they do drive long distances, so again, they have not had the problem and they love their CR-V's. Like Alex says, it's only an issue if you don't drive it much and don't warm the engine correctly. Most people have not had the problem.

Our 2011 CRV A/C failed at 70, 000 miles. Also the right rear axel failed in the same month. Honda told us to have a nice day. Owned a Prelude, Accord, Odessy and a CIVIC. Honda lost a long time customer. Also own a 2013 Camry and still drive a 2001 Camry. Toyota quality is much higher. When the CRV dies my money will go with the Reliable RAV4. I do not trust Honda to stand by the 1. 5 l engine or the CVT transmission.

I do not like the way the front looks like. The hood has these bumps on the sides. As it limits the close distance visibility, it makes it harder to park. ;(Not to mention Honda pricing on my market is way too high (Japan. CR-V is outcompeted by sales number in Japan, by a massive margin. It is rare to see it on the roads. In the meantime, the waiting time for the new RAV4 is over 6 months.

Honda is highly competitive. I am positive the CR-V will be upgraded in 2021. I like to see power folding mirror, 360 camera, HUD and ventilated seats. BTW we have the 2016 Civic with the 1. 5 turbo and love it. If I had to switch cars I will likely pickup a RAV4 Hybrid today. Having said that RAV4 also has some weaknesses. I will wait for the CR-V in the 2021 model year.
