How can a 203 hp, 4 cylinder RAV4 even come close to the price of a genuine, 4X4 4Runner? The LE #Hybrid is the best choice in the RAV4 lineup by a mile. It is cheap to buy, cheap to run and offers more than enough AWD capability to travel through its natural territory of suburban malls, suburban boulevards and suburban driveways. If Toyota really wants to compete with the Cherokee it needs to offer the power of a V6 with an upgraded undercarriage to match. Having said all that, the Adventure will probably sell like hotcakes to image unconscious consumers.

Personally this adventure model would probably work for where we drive. The way it is when I want to use the 4x4 on my Truck I pretty much have to look for excuses to use it. Maybe someday that will change. I like the look of this adventure model but when we can the wife says we need a van. Van's are practical but probably not as fun. Although about 5 years ago when we had a Pontiac Montana it got stuck in the snow a couple of times. We normally don't get as much snow as we did that year. I would like to be able to get off the beaten path abit more.

I have driven this trim, an XLE, and an LE hybrid. Honestly, the hybrid impressed me. The 8 speed auto power train was actually noisier, especially under passing maneuvers. Sound insulation under the hood seems to vary between trims. Also, I can't stand the SofTex, fake leather, 21st century vinyl, seats. I see these creeping further and further up the trims within all Toyotas, even the 2019 Avalon - gross Add the fact that most of those seats don't have ventilation, just heat, and it's a non-starer for me. Come on Toyota; very disappointed.

This is an interesting space, however someone needs to make an offroad-capable crossover with a proper powertrain. Right now we have Cherokee/Passport with the ZF9 auto and Subaru/Toyota with the gutless four-bangers (and CVTs in the case of Subaru. Jeep seems to be the segment leader as they focus on offroad capability, which is the whole point of this mini-segment. Toyota is the runner up and possibly a better buy. However none of these are very appealing for their price. For now I'll stick with my body-on-frame vehicle for offroad use.

I took a rented Rav4 across Iceland on highland roads from North to South, then South to North, including fording a massive glacial outflow and I was able to sleep inside relatively comfortably. I'm sure a more tricked out AWD system and the ability to run real all terrain tires will make it perfectly suitable for dirt/gravel roads. All that said, why are all of the vehicles in this class so pathetically underpowered? Only the CX-5 is not pathetic, and the Passport has reasonable power but it's a size up and also atrociously ugly.

Im waiting for delivery of my Adventure, or Trail as theyve called it here in Canada. Ive had a Subaru, Tiguan and an AWD Lexus. Theyve all served me well. I live 35 km out of town on seriously nasty roads, then up a steep, twisty, canted hill road. Im confident the Trail will be fine. If I needed more muscle, Id buy a truck or serious off roader. Thanks Alex for all your helpful reviews.

We are renting an Adventure for all of next week, (Vacation)We just picked it up today but have not really driven it yet. It seems nice enough and the seats are pretty comfortable. I wish they had a Heads Up Display' though. I am still not sure WHY the Adventurer can pull more then the other RAV4's. Same Engine (2. 5L) and Transmission (8 speed. Correct?

I slimmed mine down to two if them. The Adventure trim, and the xse. The adventure is more for the outgoing one and more off road oriented (slightly) but the xse hybrid is faster and more quite and more focused for road driving. But this gen RAV is really impressive. The last gen one was my least favourite out of all. Nice review

I have new rav4 and love it but why did they uglyfy this. From color scheme, to wheels and front bumper. Also interior color choice is not great for any offroading. XSE looks much better for offroad look and upcoming TRD is awesome. Also what about AA coming to 2019 rav4? Is this confirmed

I got jeep cheorkee trailhawk within over 100K miles and never had any issues so far, also i got a huge incentives by only paying 34K before tax fully loaded. i am possitive not going to spend 39K for a under power and less off road worthy Toyota RAV 4
