Been burned by the eBay special recently as well as a brick and mortar store so the argument of buying your parts always from them is invalid!
Cases in point. eBay crap was an genuine Motorcraft fuel rail pressure/temp switch for a Ford Focus. The thing lasted about 30 min before it failed! We were able to get a refund on that part.
Bought online and Bosh (genuine) from online cheaper than brick and mortar ever could and the part did have the same exact marks on it as the one that was original to the car. So a win for us I reckon.
Big box store fail for us was when we were working on their 1955 Ford and he wished to replace the coil after we got the car running again.
Even though it tested fine electrically via ohm check, the thing caused the car to run like absolute crap!
The connections were connected tightly and correctly but still the car ran like crap. Reinstalled the original and the problem went away.
The customer service from this store was so abysmal that we will not buy anymore part from them ever again and their corporate office even refused to email him when he wrote in a complaint!
You sir have also complained about some of the box store (garbage) yourself.
It is becoming harder and harder to get quality parts much anywhere.
My friend will not use Rock Auto anymore and I’m leary of them after the points fiasco. Showed them through photos the reason why the points that they sent to us would NOT work, they kept sending us the wrong set and stating that these are the correct ones for the car!
It really does seem like it is a crap shoot anymore. This is sad because folks are believing that others are doing the right thing and sadly the quality of the parts is not what it should be.

I learned my lesson on Chinesium parts building a motorcycle for my niece. The bike I bought needed rear directionals, from the image the Chinesium ones looked just like factory originals but were about 1/3 the price so I bought some. I installed them and the seemed to work just fine, but then my niece tells me she failed stated inspection when one of them didn't work. I pulled off the failed part and opened it up and was flabbergasted by how cheaply the part was constructed, one of the wires was wrapped around the spring that kept tension on the light bulb, it wasn't even soldered, just wrapped. Fortunately I had some factory originals on hand for another project and replaced the Chinesium parts and she was good to go. I'll buy aftermarket parts for my vehicles, but only from a reputable source, no more cheapy Chinesium for me.

I order a lot of parts for a home gamer. Rockauto. and i use the online ordering options for the stealerships for pretty decent discounts. order a lot from partsouq; those are all oem but sometimes shipping cost can be a lot if you only need something really cheap (but 5 days isn't bad. i have found a lot of toyota parts in other boxes from both Napa and oreillyauto as far a B&M places. some rockauto parts are repackaged OEM stuff but you can often tell by the pictures which is usually pretty representative. Of course if you are going aftermarket. better quality from Japan, USA and Germany. for the most part. Those are my observations. i will settled for a cheap part if it won't leave me stranded, i don't have time and it is easily accessible to replace later.

No it is Mitsubishi Mumble & nah you were not kissing it you were giving it a blow jobOn a serious note I was watching Ivan the other day going through all sorts of tests & in the end it was el cheapo ignition coils & I commented to him that I am a nuisance asking owners when they say they put aftermarket parts in I ask if they are cheap, look different & a whole lot of questions before working on the vehicle just because like this one the parts can be junk out of the box I tell people to get genuine parts or if they are using aftermarket (genuine unavailable) that the parts state they are OEM specs. that way if the parts are still garbage they can get their money back Cheers Mr O.

Most manufacturers have parts depots. I use Ford, GM and Chrysler Parts depots. Some require access approval (ie. GM [it pays to have a GM Engineer as a relative]. Ford parts depots are available throughout the US, so I look for the closest (Some are just online Dealer Parts Departments though, unless you need parts immediately these parts depots are good.
Dealers do not often have factory parts for older cars/trucks, but the parts depots generally do. Mopar Parts before 2004 are lacking in availability of some parts.

hi, why did the car stall with the purge valve open increased pressure in the fuel tank should push more fumes through the purge valve into the manifold which almost is like making it rich, a little bit.
thats my naive understanding clearly its wrong i dont get why it would stall.
edit: think i got it. its like a vaccuum leak in that the computer thinks its closed, but its open, so theres more air going into the engine. standard vaccuum leak but its enough to stall with not enough fuel.

Last Year. I was asked to repair a no start 0 turn lawnmower. The owners said they spent 1k on getting it running.
The previous so called Technician for lawnmower. Installed the wrong parts. I bought all of the correct parts and got it running. I only spent $50. 00 vs $1000. 00
The owners were very happy. I donated my labor since I knew the kid. They bought a belt for the mower deck. She runs real good.
I removed all of the junk and threw it in the trash.

If he would have stayed away from eBay parts.
Let's go upstream one more step. Diagnose your problem correctly! Check new parts for functionality before installation, if possible. The vent and purge valves are so easy check. Last one I did, I removed, did the suck/blow test, did it again with power, and condemned the old part. I repeated the testing with the new part before final installation. Hell, I didn't even need to get out the multimeter.

There's no guarantee that the brick and mortar stores suppliers, aren't doing the switcheroo with chinese parts in their name-brand box. They could still keep their prices high, say its made in America or its factory original. and there's no way to verify, for anyone. I don't know why people don't heed what I'm saying. It happens right in front of everyone, and it's like naw naw man, they would NEVER do that. The word trust means nothing nowadays.

FOLLOW UP- The fella did call me about a week later after running a drive cycle and said now that EVAP system works it did flag a code for a small leak. Not sure if he fixed it himself at that point or what but he did not come back to me to see the job through. He did mention when he was working on it initially that he had a few mishaps underneath with some hoses or something like that. Any how just thought you guys should know.

Eric, I could use you to find my evap leak. My 03 Tacoma has been to 2 different shops, the 1st one twice with different opinions each time. Parts cannon #1. The 2nd shop installed brand new charcoal cannister and vent pressure sensor and new PCM/ECU. was there 5 1/2 months but still couldn't find the leak.
If anyone here is on the Monterey Peninsula in California and knows a mechanic who knows what they are doing, please tell me

Your videos are alway interesting. I’m just your average do it yourself auto fixer not a mechanic by profession. I know enough to be dangerous but anything to complicated I hire a real mechanic. I’ve done the parts canon deal and wasted a lot of time and money so I don’t any more. I hire it out. Plus I drive new cars so normally I don’t have problems. Thanks for posting your work it’s very interesting and I watch all of them.

2: 30 Interestingly enough, one of the top causes of failure of RV gas appliances (Atwood water heaters and refrigerators) is spiders building a web in the venturi tube where the propane and air mixes.
For some reason they love that smell and are attracted to it. Blowing air doesn't get rid of them. Only ramming a cleaning brush up the tube does.
Some people swear putting a few moth balls in the utility area keep insects away.

Recently I heard a radio conversation between a police dispatcher and a Sheriff's deputy near Cortland New York; nothing in their words was out of line, but the tone of their voices, their pauses between words and short periods of silence told a much different story - It was a Friday evening and the guy pulled over by the Deputy had an expired NY inspection sticker. from 2016 (it's 2024 now) I wouldn't want to be that guy.

26: 50 It's interesting, rockauto also sells OEM parts. I've never bought any myself from them, but you search an oem part number on their search page, it'll sometimes offer an oem part. Genuine subaru for example, not denso.
edit: for the record, I'm not sayin I'd trust them without knowing where they get the oem parts from. I'll only buy oem online if it's being shipped from a dealership parts department.

White box Chinese garbage. I agree with you 100%. When I retired and began working on just lawn & garden equipment I quickly found the same Chinese garbage has permeated this industry also. People whine when I quote an OEM carb for 80 bucks and they say they can get the carb, air filter, and spark plug for 20. I send them down the road. But I have that luxury. So, I feel your pain.

Work on these Hisun motors in the UTV’s and Quads. You’ll find out right quick that you can buy a part from Hisun directly, or one from the jungle web and it’s a crap shoot of which one is going to be good. Only difference is you’ll save a few dollars from the Jungle Web and it’s returnable, whereas directly from Hisun, electric parts are non-returnable/non-refundable.

I bought a right rear caliper for my Lucerne off ebay. The guy shipped it in no packaging except the box the caliper sits in while on the shelf. The box was kinda banged up. I told him there is no way I am even going to attempt to install it as its probably bad and its a bit of work to do that and take the chance. Would not return my money.

People, believe him. Do not buy genuine Honda parts online, or you will have your genuine Honda timing belt snap after 11 months and 9, 000 miles, costing you 2 days of your labor and $850 to have the heads redone. Its a scam, the parts look authentic, even the packaging looks authentic but they are garbage. Ask me how I know.

It's not just ebay, it's big chains too. Had to get a map sensor and throttle position sensor for my '06 Dodge dakota. The original semsors lasted 11 years, the Standard Motor Products I bought from O'reillys lasted 10 months. Also needed hub assemblies. Bought Autozone duralast gold hubs. junk out of the box.
