I don't see how people don't trust you. Every time you say that it just gets me. I've a question or two. How many miles did it have before that rust happened Why don't they have a fix of a none metal lock ring If I brought a New one / new anything in for a Fluid Film treatment would you have reached up in there and Fluid Filmed it and would that stop it from happening In the future will you reach up on new vehicles that come in for a Fluid Film treatment and treat it

All those keyboard mechaniacs (not a typo) and their trust issues. I think the majority of us out here in the audience would trust a life long mechanic over a keyboard warrior any day of the week. Although I must say reading their comments is always good for a chuckle. I think you should start pinning the most awesome keyboard mechaniac comment for each video.
Then we can heckle them at our leisure.

I thought Delphi tanked I'd have liked to see the battle of the lock ring but I can imagine how it went. I find that with more modern cars that the parts we're changing are being destroyed by themselves. Rusty magnet rings on ABS hubs, rusty lock rings on fuel pumps, chia forming on open bottom fuse boxes. Poor design I'd say. Maybe poor materials as well. Thanks for the follow up Mr. O.

Ha! Anyone with trust issues after watching more than five SMA videos has not been paying attention. You are by far the best there is. And honest and trustworthy to boot! Your town/area/neighborhood should realize what a great asset they have. I wish my Louisiana area had as good a mechanic! Keep up the good work. We all love the great content.

I'd bet you will never do this. I help my cousin with his 82 Chevy Pick up with new sending unit in the tank and it sucked to do. But when I put it together, I used the wax from a toilet bowl wax ring, new of course and put it all around the top of the locking ring while I was installing it and after installed. And it worked really good.

Whoa. Still have trust issues. Did not see you put it back with all new parts plus no Evoka smoka test afterwards. Who could believe a dodgy bloke like this Glad his missus has some success keeping him in line. Retired mechanic in Land Down Under. PS. If you believe any of the above YOU (as the reader) have the problem.

Ppl who doubt don't live in the rust belt. Keeping brake pads freed up is a struggle. In the 40 years I been driving my own cars I only had one set of pads almost wear out. They was just about to the squealer when the rust jacked pad got spit out. Had to hit the pedal again to push the metal on metal to stop.

Hey Eric - good video - thanks for showing the busted part. On a different topic, would you be interested in putting out a video on you favorite aftermarket parts. E. g. sensors, brakes, bearings, etc. You don't have to bad mouth anyone, just reveal the brands that you have had good success with.

One of the worst things car manufacturers ever came up with is in-tank fuel pumps. The trouble and expense (not to mention the potential danger) of replacing these components compared to the externally mounted pumps of the Old Days is considerable. Why does it have to be this way

Fuel Tank Pressure sensors fail on those habitually as well, causing false evap leak codes because the pressure sensor reads inaccurately. Usually because the owners keep pumping gas to the top of the fuel tank filler neck trying to squeeze that even dollar amount into every fill up.

HEY. it ain't TRUST issues. I mean, if you just captured video of a car coming into shop and then immediately driving out fixed I'd be disappointed, unentertained, uneducated, unlikely to return. So you're labeling my demand for GOOD content as being a trust issue. QUIT

Off camera, Eric puts the old fuel pump back in and fills the valley where this crack and lock ring resides with JB weld.
I would honestly be tempted to do just that myself. That way the pump is liable to last longer and maintain an accurate fuel gauge.

Thanks for sharing that find, i trust the process but had thoughts that it was the gasket or the lock ring had broken and the pump was tilting in the tank. Strange to see the cracking but it makes sense like rust jacking on brake pads!

So because this is a common problem ( as you say ) in the rust belt when you put it back together do you coat the lock ring with anything to maybe give the customer added time before it happens again Just a thought

Wow.
Makes me happy being in Australia.
1 we don't have much rust to make that happen.
2 most of our cars here don't require evap system monitoring, so no chasing small and very small leaks

No trust issues with me. I've dealt with the same crap for years. I do enjoy someone showing just how bad the rust gets here. Now if you were Scotty it would be an entirely different story.
