Well this may be pretty run of the mill for some of us but this is a very common task or challenge I am faced with all through out the year. A customer will drop off a spindle and a bearing and want it replaced. So come along and I'll show you how it is done. vapeking: stoered up energy is for real and deadly my 1st press was a horror fright 12ton a frame they now only put 6ton jack on for good reason i was push a u-joint for backhoe, the a frame let lose it cut the bill off my hat about 1/4 from my head like it was a razer blade going through butter did'nt even knock my hat off it happed so fast i did'nt even know what happen.

I think I know exactly why this customer is replacing their hub bearing. Happened to me several years back on my wife's car. She had taken it to a certain big box store to have a tire fixed and they cross threaded a couple of the lug nuts. So when I had to remove the wheel a year or so later, two of the lug studs broke off. The hub is so close to the knuckle/carrier that the only way to get new studs in is to remove the hub from the bearing, and as you see here extracting the hub can cause the bearing to come apart. Plus, it didn't make any sense to go to all that work pressing the hub out of the bearing to press it back in to an old bearing. It looks like this hub has plenty of clearance but looks can be deceiving.

I changed out the press-in bearing on my 92 Taurus SHO at the auto skills center on Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. The mechanic on location told me to replace the hub as well, because it was loose inside the new bearing, just fell right in! I didn't take his advice and just cranked down the hub nut good n' tight! The mechanic told me this wouldn't last long, but I did it anyway! Five miles into the test drive the bearings started making this coffee grinder sound! Had to do the whole job all over again with all new parts and a new hub! Rookie mistake! ;-) I always buy the kit that includes the bearing, snap-ring and the hub. Great video, as always, Eric! You're my new YouTube bro!

I enjoyed this video. It's nice to see someone who knows what he's doing and explaining it while he's doing it. The lack of music was especially nice. I cringed when you put it back together without replacing the missing wheel lugs and without a new circlip. It's the definition of half-assed in my book. It seems to me that you could be exposing yourself to some liability if the customer uses it that way and has an accident down the road.

Even after watching this video, I stepped on my male organ and snapped the brake caliper ear off just as you warned against.
I am never again going to own a foreign front-wheel drive car unless I can afford a mechanic to work on it.

The knuckle used in this video looks oninousliy similar to a 1999-2003 Toyota Solara V6.

Really helpful video. thanks for sharing. I bought a 20t press to remove/replace ball joints on my old VW Beetle Nova/Sterling kit car, which it did perfectly. I now need to replace a wheel bearing on my daughter's Citroen DS3 and you've shown me how to do this with my press. Thanks mate! :)

Eric, Thanks for the vid - very helpful. Getting that bearing out is usually the hardest bit. Requires some decent force, pressing in as well as out, and once it gets going make sure you keep going because it's getting ready to get you back if you stop. :-)

Could the first part of this video be considered as a DEPRESSING VIDEO. LOL
Good thing you weren't PRESSED for time. LMAO
That snap ring goes on the outer betting, so what keeps the spindle from coming out from the forces from the wheel?

Im thinking about opening an automotive pressing shop in my country and Im looking to get resources, guidelines and information from someone already in that arena. Can you please link me to some automotive pressing shops, you know of.

I always check for run out of the hub flange when doing these, very surprising how much there can be esp on GM stuff, I did mine last week and had to take of 10 thou, which is crazy esp by the time it gets to edge of disc!
