I have a look at a 2014 GMC Yukon that has a customer complaint of a low brake pedal. It doesn't take long to duplicate the customer complaint and find the cause. These systems work off from a vacuum pump and they are a pretty common failure item

Eric, My 2012 Chrysler 200, 3. 6 V6 just failed to start yesterday. It has about 76, 000 miles on it. Up till now the car has been golden. Up till now I would have recommended this car to anyone. Absolutely love it. Anyway, I drove it from work to the grocery store. Started fine and ran fine. 16 degrees outside. I had been sitting in the parking lot idling for about 15 minutes before shutting it off. Got back into it about 5 minutes later and no crank, no start. Just clicking. Acted like a dead battery, but absolutely no sign of it whatsoever other than no start. AAA came out and jump started it with the smallest battery pack I've ever seen. How something that small can have enough power to jump start a car I don't know. He connected his battery pack and the car started very strong, not like it had a weak battery at all. With 76, 000 (or whatever it has) I've been thinking about replacing the alternator and battery preemptively to avoid this very thing. But figured I had green time left on the two items. The brain trust says they've replaced the battery and alternator in some cases and the problem came back. One commenter on the web said he found a loose connection to the fuel pump that must have been that way from the factory. but his car at least cranked. Others have said that the dealership mechanics have shot-gunned parts at it. and the problem came back. Dealership, no help. No lights, No codes either, in all of this. Now even if I throw some parts at it I won't be able to trust the car. It gives no warning at all before it drops dead. .and I drive on desolate roads with no cell signal in freezing weather. Any thoughts you have on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My 2012 Altima locks up the front brakes, first the driver side starting smoking, then I stopped to let it cool, then started again to get it home. Right inside the garage with 2 feet of the car still outside I heard a thud on the passenger side and that side smoked. The car wouldn't move because the passenger side was completely locked. The abs light also turned on when the car was still moving. Do you think the check valve is the culprit or the brake hose on both sides are clogged? I did notice when replacing the driver side caliper that the fluid didn't drip much out of the hose. Haven't taken off the hose from the passenger side.

Maybe if she learned how to stop correctly in the first place and didn't creep ahead she wouldn't have hit cars. This is one of the most annoying things when I'm driving, someone that can't properly judge the stop or is impatient and creeps ahead. At least once a day I'll be at a stop light and the person in front creeps so far ahead there's enough space for another car.
Get rid of all that safety crap like lane assist, backup cameras, and active braking and just learn how to drive your damned car.

GM just came out with a warranty extension of sorts for 'increased braking effort' on select vehicles
coverage - 10 years or 150, 000 miles
The letter also states they will reimburse for paid repairs
don't laugh, but that letter also states in bold Please be aware that even if your vehicle exhibits this condition, it meets all federal motor vehicle safety standards for brake performance

People ask why I dont like GM. Because they do stuff like this.
Ford, and FCA are competing with each other. GM is like the slow kid on the block trying to hang out with the cool kids. If not for fanboys, and China GM would already be in chapter 11 again. Chrysler did a complete 180, GM could learn a lot from FCA. Cater to Americans, not your Chinese market.

(Sarcastically) Yeah, today's vehicles sure are more reliable and longer lasting than older ones. It's things like this that make me glad I don't own a newer car. Today's car buyers are essentially being used as guinea pigs. If I see one of these newer GM vehicles coming up behind me and it doesn't seem like they're gonna stop, I'll try to get out of the way.

Eric, do you still have your Launch Diagun IV? How do you like it? I am trying to decide between that tool and the Autel MaxiCOM MK808TS. do you have any insight you can offer? This is for advanced DIY use. I personally own Ford, Buick, BMW, and Toyota. so it would certainly be used on a mix of cars. Family owns a number of GMs as well.

You dont have to buy a new belt. You go from the top of the engine bay to do it dont go from underneath. Electric ratchet and 13mm and some short extensions and put it in place and tighten the back 2 bolts to pull it tight. Ive done a countless number of these pumps.

Just had this fixed in my 2015 Silverado and GM is now warrantying the new updated vacuum pumps out to 2025 or 125k miles. They were on backorder for a little while, but they're coming in again now. The recall is covering over 3. 5 million GM trucks & SUV's.
