she replaces the leaking valve cover with a brand new one and sees the correction on the fuel trims to verify the fix Fmghos7: The pipe sealant confused me a bit so I decided to do a little digging and it turns out the Chevrolet Sonic repair manual indeed says Apply pipe sealant to the center bolt during reinstallation. The manual is not, however, referring to the bolt in the center of the valve cover. The bolts are identified as two different types. The three shorter bolts which are closest to the pulleys are type (1. The rest of the bolts which are longer are type (2. The instructions for the pipe sealant application are in reference to the type (1) bolts so the center bolt of the three closest to the pulleys is the one that gets the sealant, not the bolt in the center of the whole valve cover. Just a helpful tip for any DIY-ers watching this otherwise very informative video.

Eric & Vanessa, I think it's terrific that you let young people come learn from you and get their hands dirty in a fun, safe place where they can really figure out if they want to be mechanics. An old guy named Manny did the same for me when I was in high school and wanted to be a mechanic, but my dad talked me out of that as a career. Since then I've had two main careers, one of which I loved (police) and the other I hated (lawyer. But through it all I have always thought of how much I would enjoy the life I saw Manny living as the owner of his own shop. At 57 years old I wish it were realistic to intern somewhere and finally follow the path I was drawn to 40 years ago.

Hey Eric, I just wanna throw this out there! I can't tell for sure what engine you got there, but if it is the 1. 4 Turbo, there should be a TSB or something about this issue. It's been a few years since I turned wrenches in a GM dealer, but when I was in, a part of the fix was to replace the Intake manifold as well. A small valve in the intake liked to fail on those earlier versions of the 1. 4, and the increased pressure killed the PCV valve. I never actually did one myself since I was pushing parts over the counter at the time, but the master tech replaced the intake on every one he did. Just wanted to mention this in case the car comes back!

It really cool that there will be one less parts changer in the world being a good mechanic is probably one of the most rewarding jobs that moment that you diagnose something that no one else could and its cool as hell to that your a girl interested in mechanical things its rare I hope My daughter will take interest in it to lol plus your lucky to learn from one of the best

Awesome job Marie! Its refreshing to see a young person enthusiastic about learning auto repair! Im glad I watched this before I changed the timing chain on a Ford 302 in my LTD and saw you use the carbide gasket scraper. I didnt know they existed. All I can say is wow! The old gaskets didnt stand a chance!

Got to say I'm a bit jealous Marie, I'm not there learning! But happy that you are. Fantastic job, and just out of curiosity did you install a gasket before putting on the valve cover, or was it already integrated with the cover? Thanks looking forward to seeing you do more repair videos. Learn as much as you can.

Fantastic! I'm looking forward to more videos with Ms. Marie! Love the cotter-pin hair clip! My only suggestion is that I would have liked to see you point out the PCV bits integrated into the new valve cover. Perhaps point out where it had failed in the old cover. Overall, great video!

If woman can do it, then why you don't? But, you still need O's knowledge in this time. Woman repair technicians will be the future and benefit for customer. Every one make mistakes: Men lie to be cool, but women don't against your face without a good reason!

Thank you, both Eric and Marie, for having such knowledge to get the job done. I have been chasing this lean code for a long time and this video solved the problem on my Sonic. Thank you for making such addicting and informative videos.
