I have a look at a 2004 Yukon Denali 6. 0 that was dragged from another shop. It sat there for over a month and they finally threw in the towel. Let's have a look and see if we have any better luck at making it run. CXensation: Scope the ECU starter relay output, look if it even tries to pull down the signal a wee bit to ground.
That would indicate either a stone dead driver pin or an internal broken path (dry solder joint.
Things that kills a driver pin are relay coil back emf, first taking out a weak protector diode, then driver itself.

Hey Eric off topic. it just occurred to me last night why I like your vids so much. I grew up in the Daytona Beach area in the late 60's and 70's and one of my friends' dad used to build cars to race at Volusia County Speedway (not the big one). Every once in a while I would go over there and hang out in the garage. Man i loved it! The smell of the oil and gas, girls posters on the wall, the endless talk about the cars, carbs, etc. Your videos remind me of that time when i was a kid. Your shop however is missing the girls on the wall! ha. Thanks for making this and all the videos Eric! Much appreciated.

It's possible there may be BCM involvement in this system as well. Speaking from experience with the PASS Key II system, the BCM reads the key and then has to send a Class 2 message to the PCM, which will enable the crank relay and fuel injector control. I have cranked the engine with a remote starter switch and the engine started, so I'm curious as to why the engine didn't start with the test light activating the relay. This seems to be a security lockout even though there are no codes for the PASS Lock system.

Love the way you kept the camera rolling while you painstakingly worked through every ECU ground, it really does help understanding of how this is done. As a neophyte, the only thing that comes to mind is that throttle control code, I wondered if engineers vetoed cranking as a safety issue. In that case, one would think that a separate code would come up to prevent a wild goose chase! Condemning the ECU has to be the most nail-biting moment of diagnostics, I wish there was a better way.

Eric, I just spent two days trying to get a my no crank no start car fixed. I asked my wife to help by turning on the ignition while I checked the trigger wire connection to the starter motor solenoid with a Voltmeter. She asked if she should switch off the immobiliser first. The penny dropped and after banging my head off the hood a few dozen times the car started just fine. Frustration the scent of a mechanic

knowing it's a gm seems like a passlock sensor. my car's operators manual actually has chapter on this. could try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes or in my case WD40/straw sprayed into the keyhole because there's crap in there the hall effect sensor does'nt always read the key and sometimes/sometimes not the security light comes on

Assuming the key is in the start position and the PCM thinks everything is fine and is trying to send the crank enable signal, but has a bad driver preventing it from providing the ground to the starter relay: If this was the only problem, wouldn't the engine start when you provided a ground to the relay and got the engine cranking?

Perhaps I missed it (entirely possible) but there should be a signal from the ECM back to the starter relay in the crank position. I think you did test that circuit and its good integrity. But, there should be a signal from the back of the ECM only when in the crank position (not just on. Just sayin cuz we're friends.

Eric, when you suspect a bad ECM (maybe any module) do you default to trying a used and suspected good ECM as opposed to having the customer's unit tested/repaired because of your experience with these issues, such as high return times and perhaps poor quality of repair? Maybe it's a cost issue. Just curious; Thanks.

They have sensors to tell people their tires are flat but still nothing to diagnose the EMC itself. I find that strange. I've had a bad ECM in car that threw no codes at all and seen a few more over the years. By now you'd think that would be standard in all these computerized vehicles now a days.
