Used Car Guy Special: Chevy Tahoe Edition - Part I ElitexEffect: I doubt the switch will fix it. If it is reporting the correct voltage then it is reporting the correct voltage. The TCCM has no excuse to misreport what mode it is detecting and the lights in the switch are controlled by the TCCM. Like you said, the fluid in the transfer case is suspiciously clean, so who knows what the hell happened to the transfer case. There was also all of those short/ground fault codes to think about as well.
I'd rather trust the data then go with what is usually wrong.
Of course, if you can find a switch in a junkyard or a donor vehicle, then there is nothing wrong with trying it and see what happens.

Interesting tid bit for ya. May be interesting to ya at least. So around my neck of the woods ( south eastern michigan ) a. k. a THE RUST BELT. Every single chevy 5. 3L has over 200k miles on it. You simply cannot find them with less than 200k on them without some sort of major mechanical issue. I just thought it was interesting how surprised you were that the tahoe had over 200k on it and that is just the norm in my neck of the rust belt lol. Regardless I hope the used car guy does the repairs cuz I wanna see them done. Keep up the good and honest work.

I had 97 Yukon with 280K I owned since 30K and now a 09 with 238K. The 97 shit fuel pressure regulators every 2 years otherwise a shift kit. The 09 had shit a front diff under warranty and a month ago it smoked the tranny( 4. 2K repair. The mechanics I use all worked for the local chev dealer till they raised the shop rate to 50 hr in 83-4; and told everyone they were getting a pay cut. All the good guys packed up and took the customers with them to their own shops.

Holy sugar 247 thousand miles on a Chevrolet. I almost fell out of my seat this morning. I don't care what you working on it is always interesting to watch. I can't wait for part 2. Maybe Wilberts has a switch for cheap to test. Then if the used car dude wants to pay for it you just sell it to him or you have that switch for the next Chevrolet with that issue. That was some heavy contamination in the front transfer case. That is just pure neglect.

I have a 91 Silverado with over 300, 000 on the clock, runs good but developed a pinging issue. Love the content Prof. O. Any idea on the ping in my big 5. 7? Pressure regulator rebuilt, Napa( not a sponsor) distributor replacement, timing right. Should I pour a can of seafoam in tbi and give er the beans? If I take her on the highway for an hour, money light comes on, but resets if I restart engine. Any ideas?

Looks like a fairly clean vehicle.
On to part two.
Can you remove the xfer case motor and manually shift it to 4LO? That would eliminate any mechanical problem. What about monitoring the dash switch with a scope to verify the switch is or is not working correctly? Possible wiring problem? I don't know that system, so just throwing out suggestions.

Ha! My 2010 Ford Fusion 2. 5 SEL has 244, 000 miles, mostly highway. Transmission's just starting to get worn out and slip a bit, rear main seal leaks, but she keeps on running. Everything works except the driver's heated seat. And she's rotting out like nothing, living in New England. That Tahoe is in great shape considering the age and mileage.

My 2008 GMC Sierra had the 5. 3L, I sold the truck with 270, 000 miles and it is still running great. I did have DOD lifters start to clack at 150, 000, I started to add Marvel Mystery oil in place of one Quart at each oil change. The lifter noise stopped within 500 miles never to be heard again. My experience with the 5. 3L was a real good one!

I've read a couple of articles about selecting 4WD Lo mode, both said to select neutral on the main selector, release the brake and with the vehicle creeping forward then select 4 down and then wait for the light to stop flashing. No idea if that's got anything to do with this problem, I'm not likely to ever own a Tahoe.

My local mechanic calls that torque reaction from the engine the engine dance. Based on the video, that engine was certainly dancing for gold. Always nice to see Mrs O as well! She secretly probably does better burnouts than most pro racing drivers and just being humble for the camera haha.
