I have a look at a 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was towed in from another shop as a no start, no crank. It doesn't take long to determine that the ECM is at fault and will need a new one

I've had all these same issues with my 2006 grand cherokee. First time I switched out the relay that worked. Two weeks later no start, tried the relay switch again, did not work. Watched a few you tube videos and tried the jiggle the wires connecting to the solenoid. That worked. Few weeks later no start same issue. Got it towed and they told me it was the starter. They replaced the starter and I had no issue for 2 months. Same problem, Dash lights up like a christmas tree and no start. Towed it back to the place that put the starter in and they called the next day saying it started and they could not find an issue with it. Ran for another 5 months good and then stopped for gas and when I went to start it nothing. Messed with the relays the wires etc, tried putting it in drive and still no start. Left it right where it died and the mechanic there told me it was a bad starter. I explained to him that the starter was under a year old and he told me the starter was definitely done and that he would check around. Turns out their was a short in the wiring from the solenoid to the ignition. He replaced that and put another starter in. He explained that the short was frying the solenoid which in and of itself would not be expensive but in this model the solenoid was part of the starter part and I had to get them both together. Turns out he was right and the car ran for two years more with no issues starting. 6 months ago same thing. Dash lights up no crank just a click and can't get it started trying all the same things I used to. This time it was just a battery and the battery was 6 years old so I counted myself lucky until, a month after replacing the battery the car would not start. The difference this time is I would hit the unlock security button, lights would go on, dash would riing and beep like normal, but as soon as I turned the ignition everything went black. No click no lights nothing. So the guy who replace the battery came and got the jeep, spent 5 days with it, and could not find anything wrong. Said the battery was probably just low but the alternator was good and asked if I left a light on. I didn't think so but sure it's possible. Long as its starting now I drove off and thanked him for the clean bill of health. Two days later same thing. Drove to the market and when I cam out turned the key, everything normal until I try to start and goes completely black again. A random guy at the market tells me, the computer is shut down. Disconnect the battery and reconnect it and you should be good. He was right. Car started up fine. So it's happened two more times and i've disconnected the battery and it's started up fine. By resetting the computer. So My issue is, I've got to figure out what is shutting down the computer when I turn the key. I think you may have solved the problem. You mentioned the 02 sensor being in the same circuit as the auto shut down. Turns out I've had a check engine light on for a few months and auto zone pulled up the codes and said it was an o2 sensor. They also said it was fine to drive because it would only affect the gas mileage. But my instincts are that the 02 sensor being bad is causing the ecu to shut down. It would make sense because the codes get reset when you disconnect the battery and it starts. I've noticed that it does not have an issue starting until after the check engine for the sensor comes back on. Sorry for the life story but perhaps this will help someone. Why the guy who replaced the battery and supposedly did an electrical diagnostic did not know this is beyond me. I'll let you know if replacing the 02 sensor solves the issue.

Thats why I like my old trucks. Had a computer issue on my 89 F150. Pulled the computer. Opened her up. Noted two puffy capacitors.
De soldered the two. Replaced with two new capacitors.
Bingo! Back in business for 5.
My wife's Chrysler OMG! Cold spell put a battery charger on it when it would not start. Been chasing crap ever since.
I really REALLY hate being defeated by a vehicle. Especially when the wife gives you that look.
I think she thinks the money saved on auto repairs is hers to spend.
Thought you said you could fix it?
But at that point I gladly pay the going rate.

mr o i work by myself all the time and no help to call upon so ive solved the push it in problem by mounting a winch in the floor of my shop under a workbench i use a harbor freight 110volt but a 3000lb atv winch and a battery will work and a wireless controller is awesome as well. this allows me to put any vehicle in the shop all by myself and i dont have to strain and push, and i dont have to ask for help lol just thought id pass along the idea thanks for the great videos its a pleasure to watch an honest man doing a great job

I was an Auto/light Truck Technician for one product line for 35 years and never did master their product.
It just amazes me how you can work on many product lines; repair them plus repair them in an efficient manner; then run a business and make very instructional videos. You sir are a very inspirable person! Being in this line of business for the years I was in, very few people can do what you are doing.

Buddy of mine hates hearing his air compressor run as much as you do. So he sticks outside in the shed to protect it from the weather and get the noise out of the shop. All works fine until winter arrives and it starts blowing the circuit breaker, oil is too thick when at minus 35 degrees F. It's back in the shop and every time it starts he sounds just like you.
Damn compressor! :-)

I currently have a problem where my 05 jeep grand Cherokee does not want to start after driving it many times in warm weathers. When I drive around for 20 min then park, it won't start back up. I had to replace starter since it gotten bad. I Do not have a --CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON-- not sure if the ecm is the problem either is the fuel pump, any clue what could possibly be the problem?

Question if you dont mind. I have a 2008 jeep Grand Cherokee 3. 7 and it won't crank sometimes and some time it will and when it doesn't start its like in this video. But it will start when it seemed to cools down. If you could help with some things to check then i would appreciate it. No code's or check engine light.

Ever come across a p0500 vss malfunction. 2000 grand cherokee 4. 0. Sensors good on trans. I believe the wheel speed sensors are good. No abs light. Each pin from pcn reads 2. 5 v key on? And I get a ground signal on each connector pin? Shorted?
