Stuck
My dad (born 1901 in the rust belt of SW PA) never bought a new car. And to all of his cars (usually a 5-10 year old Chevy, he added 1 or 2 plies from leaf springs purchased from the local junk yard. Longer U-bolts he had the local blacksmith make - and any excess was cut off with a hacksaw (he never owned an acetylene torch. Spring center bolts were available from the local parts stores. Clamps on the springs were separated using a hammer and chisel and beaten back into shape with a sledge hammer. Lubrication (if there was any) was provided from the drippings from oil cans he had used to changed his oil (there was always a little left in the can after pouring it into the crankcase, so he'd prop them up to drain them and collect what came out. Waste not, want not. Back in the 50s and 60s, there was a choice. Non-detergent oil (cheap) or detergent oil (more expensive. Pop always used detergent. Our old cars never let us down. Torque wrench? What was that? He started being a mechanic on the model T. Eventually, he worked at a GMC garage and then on heavy equipment. Pop was the definition of an old school mechanic. He taught me a lot. This video was a trip down memory lane for me. Thanks.

Awe. this video with out you explaining why is just not the same, but on that note even without you talking the video is still enjoyable. Things we missed are the year of the truck, why only one leaf spring, the sheep noise when you spry on the anti rust wax, and the commentary in between. Gunner S is right you are truly blessed to not have co-workers slack jawing in your ear all day.

I like to think of myself as knowing a thing or 2 about working on cars, but i never knew people rebuilt leaf springs. Talk about having a throw-away mindset. Thanks for showing the most efficient way one can get it done.

Ahh I miss the Mr. O, play by play. Would it be better if I was doing this on my own vehicle to paint the C-clamp things? And why only 1 leaf spring and not them all? Is it a height thing or was 1 of the springs broke?

I did an Add a Leaf kit on a mid 80's Dodge Ram Charger I had. It really wasn't that bad of a kit. It gave me about a 1. 5 lift and I ran 33 Mud Kings on 15 x 8 chrome modular wheels. It looked good too!

I only hope the ASMR thing doesn't go further. Love your experience and teaching methodology. The humor is awesome also! Keep it coming, Eric.
I get it if you had a not talking kind of day.

You sir are probably the second most thorough mechanic I've ever had the pleasure of watching. I'd give you first but I watched the other IRL. Thanks Eric!
