Long story, but I ended up with a manual 08 Fit a while back. definitely not much to look at and no racing machine, but was _very_ nimble, great in heavy traffic and for its size had amazing amounts of useable interior volume. The back seats flipped every further increasing interior space. and they lowered the floor all the way back by moving the fuel tank up under the front seats. Head room was second only to a motorcycle. All & all, it was really _very well_ thought out. and thats not even mentioning the stellar fuel mileage. In the 7 years I had it drove it cross country a couple of times & went everywhere in it. biggest issue was a flat tire. Sadly, I don't think they sold that well; heard Honda recently dropped the line.

Great Job Eric. I do have a question for you. I own a 2016 Ford Escape Titanium with the 2. 0 ecoboost engine. Last fall I changed the spark plugs with the OEM Motorcraft SP537 spark plugs. Some people said I should have installed NGK Iridium plugs and others say Motorcraft plugs. What is your recommendation? I do not have a issue with changing them agian to a better suited spark plug. My fuel mileage really sucks in the city but I get around 28 mpg on the highway. Also my daughter has a 2015 Ford Focus with the non ecoboost engine and I need to change the spark plugs in her vehicle as well. I believe her car uses the same plugs so if there is a better suited plug i will go that route with hers as well.

That's interesting. I'm a retired mechanic and drive an 09 Fit. I've done my sparkplugs all with my left arm by feel. Now my neighbor drives a 2012 Fit and she started having drivability issues. I scanned it and it showed a #2 misfire. So I brought it in and reached around. yes I did a reach around, and took the coil off and the spark plug was loose. Due to being loose and letting gases out, it ruined the coil. So I put a new coil and spark plug in it and it was good and ran perfect. Nobody had been into that engine before. It's damned strange to have loose sparkplugs like that.

In the last video you mentioned time-sert in the description or comments. I prefer their spark plug repair inserts. The inserts are thinner, and instead of having to tap them in to swedge them the inserting tool is ever so slightly hex shaped and oversize. It expands the whole insert to lock it in. They even have special inserts for the problematic Fords that like to eject their plugs. You are right to stress making sure the valves are shut. I was working at a shop and they loaned out their kit to a customer and they damaged the valves on a Ford 5. 4 trying to fix it themselves.

If you think this was an impressive repair, let me direct you to Eric installing threaded inserts in a stripped out toyota engine block.
As a machinist I would have the luxury of having a bare block that I could clamp on a milling machine, locate the holes precisely, and drill and tap perfectly on location and square.
Full props to Eric doing it in the car and having it work perfectly with full massive torque applied to the head bolts at the end.

That's what happens when you got no clue on how to torque plugs!
If anyone has a hard time on plug changes. talk to a Subaru owner and you'll know how important and difficult it is to do these right!
Looks like a helicoil job and a hard one to do as a bonus!
Always take a couple hours to think the process through, if you are going to do it yourself.
Knowledge, knowledge, knowledge is your best friend and rushing is your enemy.

He started out with meatloaf going all the way and we ended up with Madonna like a virgin This dirty girl's hole has been refreshed
I've been a machinist for over 30 years. I power tapped lots of holes. no. I will not turn my head away when your power tapping a hole go for it dude. And no joke I use WD-40 to tap aluminum It's a whole lot cheaper than tap magic and it works great and guess what WD-40 has an oil base so you water nuts calm down!

Great video, did the same thing on a 1990 Pontiac, Grand Am. listened to tech to tell me to remove plugs with warm motor. big mistake. my year would eat the indium plug as they were to deep in the cylinder, design fail. so I would change them every other year and one time one spun. I got a kit and did all 4 plugs. best thing ever. why not have these in from factory as it didn t mater after cold or hot you could easily remove the plugs.

First time commenting Eric O. When you needed to expand the top of the helicoil with no swinging room the first thing that came to my mind was a palm nailer and then you said it
I used a palm nailer years ago to install a soft plug on my inboard motor on my boat with out pulling the motor, mechanic insisted motor had to come out because of position and lack of room. You are one hell of a mechanic keep the videos coming

Minor FYI. Koken makes extensions that are nicely knurled around the female drive end. that are not only great for stuff like this; but everyday use as well. They come in all drive sizes, regular, wobble & some up to a meter long. Koken specializes in sockets, ratchets & related, has a huge selection and puts out excellent stuff.
Cool videos, Thanks! :)

One of the hole rethreaders similar to yours saved my rear on my old Nissen PU truck. It was worth all of the 50 bux I paid for it. I gingerly expanded it a tiny bit at a time, repeated the procedure, and fixed the buggered top threads. Moral- Don't get in a big hurry when you are dead tired.

Honda Fits are known to have the spark plugs back out over time. I usually check the torque every time I do the oil change. The factory torque was quite low and after a few years Honda increased the torque to help. Unfortunately, they can still back out over time.
