I'm noticing an interesting evolution of reviews of these cars. A few years back the fact that they were at the cusp of outperforming competitive IC vehicles was viewed as interesting, and made them a potentially viable option to their IC competitors. As they get better, and they become clearly better performance cars than the (BMW and Porsche) competitors the discussion seems to shift from objective metrics to increasingly subjective ones. In this case it was simply stated that a BMW M2 is more fun than a Tesla Performance. I guess sort of like a 1966 Porsche 911S is more fun than a 2024 Porsche Turbo S.
As a 69 year old gearhead who has owned and driven all manner of sporty cars (and motorcycles, I'm finding this trend to be kinda weird. The way I see it the new Tesla Performance is a clearly better performance car than a BMW M car, at a better price, with far lower running costs, and far lower ownership costs. It's quicker, it handles better, it's faster on a racetrack, is a far better long distance car, and is a better daily driver. Oh, and it gets north of 100 mpg while an M2 gets barely 20 mpg. It even has greater range than an M2.
In this case I think the guy who really got it right is Jason Camissa. a serious gearhead auto journalist. This car makes the BMW M2/3 irrelevant.
I think this business of clinging to, what at this point are subjective intangibles, is evidence that there's really no other justification to dismiss these cars as superior vehicles for enthusiast drivers. And then there's the question of why anyone would choose a Taycan over one of these.

Mat, this is great as usual, but I really hope you can make an addendum (or at the very least keep this in mind for any head-to-head videos) where you test the U. S. version of the car with the Panasonic battery. Otherwise it's just not the same.
The U. S. version has been verified at 2. 7s 0-60mph with 1ft rollout, a full 0. 2s faster than advertised and 0. 2-0. 3s faster than the international (LG battery) version of the car. It has a quarter mile time as low as 10. 7s. And it's just been dyno'd as actually being a 600HP car, NOT the 510HP that Tesla advertises for the U. S. version. Massive sandbagging of specs!
In fact, it would be kinda cool to do head-to-head videos in which you include both the U. S. and the international M3P so there'd be a direct comparison between them when drag racing other cars. Otherwise I feel like it could give a false impression of how awesome the M3P really can be (particularly to U. S. viewers who aren't aware there's a difference between versions.

The Tesla is a boring plastic clinical car which you would be bored with after one month. The Bmer M2 M3 etc. If we ignore fanboys and people who have never owned one or even been in one and forget the 9. 3 on the quarter boys with 1000 crank hp and frankly who gives a damn about that as it is a very small market of people who actually do it. The Bmer is a very good car. It does not devalue like the Tesla. Very few people are buying M Bmers in the UK if you look at the sales figures. So it is less common than the souless Tesla. It has heart and personality. Ultimately cars are getting more boring so the Bmer is the one to go for and keeping it standard maybe with a remap is all you need for UK roads. What do you think Let me know.

The problem with the Model 3 and Model Y, is that they’re the same car as when the Model 3 came out in 2018. Back then it was amazing, now it’s very common, very copied, and very surpassed in many ways. The lack of display for the driver and every function being via the middle screen is a massive pain, and I was very happy to sell my Model 3 Performance from 2019 and move to a different EV manufacturer.

Sorry, not an M3 killer at all. It's an EV which is very fast when fully charged but it's miles away from the feel, handling etc of a car recipe that has been perfected over decades. Not that I think the new M3s are the best, I would probably prefer some more purist, lighter l, and yes, slower older model. But don't mind me, I'm getting old and I find most new things to be rubbish anyway.

I think England gets the communist made Model 3 with a weaker communist battery, which effects the motors power output. I know Australia gets the communist version. In the USA the battery is made in the USA and outputs more power, thus better 0-60 times and quarter mile times. Given the numbers I think Matt sadly has the commie version but I'm not sure. Can anyone confirm

Anyone else miss the days where matt would review normal cars. I like the drag races and performance cars but carwow is supposed to review normal everyday cars. Don't get me wrong I like a good drag race and a review of a performance car but I miss the old days where it was mostly normal cars that people would actually buy. Maybe it's just me

I love Teslas with all my heart, as much as i love a 63. 5 427 Ford Galaxie or a 2000 Honda Civic SI, i love cars and trucks and i just don't understand any hate toward any car from car people. You don't have to dislike anything, if it moves your soul, love it like i do, it's so much funner being a fan of everything automotive.

this car can not kill bmw m series because of battery power cant send a power continuously, if you drive tesla 3 and bmw 3 with 50 km 200 km/h continuously, tesla 3 battery heat and recessive powered or drive at nubergring3 laps, bmw m 3 is winner, battery is too heavy and tyre is heat, short quarter mile tesla win only.

NGL reviewers have to stop talking about range and mpg on test cars or cars given to journalists. I'd like to see YT reviewers have their own range and MPG tests to determine real world range. If you drive a Model 3 Performance normally you can easily get a real world range of around 300 miles.

I can't stand having to control everything on the car through the tablet or the touch buttons on the steering wheel. If EV manufacturers don't give us proper dials and buttons (and honestly, give me a regular gear selector too where the transmission would be, I won't be buying one.

I was gonna upgrade my old 2020 Model 3P to the new Model 3P until I saw that the US version is the only one with 510HP and much much faster than the EU one due to the batteries they use. US version does 2. 8s 0-60 and runs a 1/4 in 10. 9s. Sad that Tesla screwed non-US Tesla enjoyers.

Just a very stale and boring car other than the motor and the interior is the exact reason I can't stand the Volvo xc30 despite it being an amazing car and great value. Giant tacked on tablet ruins it, the only minimalist interior I liked was the old Audi A3 style

Please stop reporting on Teslas completely. Enthusiasts are not into that garbage. That's for appliance and gadget enthusiasts.
Please, for the love of God, STOP with these pieces of trash! Oh, hello from Canada, Matty boy, you're a legend

Not a fair comparison try completing a couple of sprints with both the Telsa and M3 then a 300 mile run, M3 will range will be quite unaffected, while the Tesla I doubt would make it. In my view these sprint tests mean nothing for usability.

We are finding out there is a massive difference between the American made with Panasonic battery vs China made with LG battery. American is getting 2. 7 0-60 with 1ft rollout, and most are running 10. 9-11. 0 quarter mile on average.

I propose a road race for 50 laps around any circuit. The Teslas, while obscenely fast, have the same energy discharge under hard use that gas cars have and recharging Lismore time consuming. To my knowledge.

Its annoying how Tesla can make a really good car but include the worst design choices at the same time making it an annoying pill to swallow (talking about now the lack of literally any physical controls)

Wait a month for the price to be cut.
Wait another month for it to be slashed.
The longer you wait the cheaper it will be.
Or buy a decent ICE vehicle that will retain its resale value.
